Defunct Games
Forget that this is a Flash game on a website; Abobo's Big Adventure is a stunning accomplishment that has to be seen to be believed. With literally thousands of cameo appearances, tons of replay value and eight devilishly clever stages, this retro-fueled action game is the first masterpiece of 2012. Best of all, it's free!

Abobo's Big Adventure is short, free, and simple. But sometimes this is just what we need. A breath of fresh air from the time consuming games we see released nowadays. For anyone with fond memories of the Nintendo NES, I urge you to head over to the official site and try it for yourself.

Abobo's Big Adventure is a great free game that brings back memories of simpler graphics and everyone's favorite older consoles.

Abobo's Big Adventure is a competent, very short but sweet throwback to our Golden Age. The referential humor and absurd juxtaposition of modern sensibilities on older mores is great, but it's all been done already and better. The game does nothing wrong, in the strictest sense, but it just doesn't have that "pop," that "wow" that leaves a truly lasting impression. That said, it is free, so if you're a gamer on a budget or someone just looking for a few yucks, it's definitely worth it to follow Abobo on his journey, at least for a little while.

The A.V. Club
There’s no particular craft or coherence evident in the way Adventure rehashes its shopworn NES tropes, and it suffers in comparison to similar tributes that precede it. Adventure lacks anything like Retro Game Challenge’s bittersweet perspective on youth, or the wit and surprise of Nitrome titles such as Enemy 585. (Adventure’s idea of wit is a Zelda dungeon shaped like a penis.) The game isn’t so much a tribute to the games of the late 1980s as a tribute to the seemingly insatiable appetite for NES nostalgia…
