dys4ia

Moby ID: 55141

Description

This game is a collection of mini-games, grouped into four levels, reflecting the game designer's frustrating experiences with societal recognition, the medical establishment, and their own body over the course of a gender reassignment hormone treatment. The story proceeds regardless of the player's "success" at the mini-games, and some games (eg. shaving or avoiding the feminist criticism, dodging ♀ symbols being shot from feminine lips) recur on different levels, paired with modified and, ultimately, more hopeful messages.

Trivia

Name

The word "dysphoria" evoked phonetically by this game's title is Greek, evoking a feeling of fundamental wrongness. It is the opposite of "euphoria".### Precedents

The subject of the game seems cutting-edge, but within the electronic game industry there were numerous precedents at the ground floor, dating back to Danielle Bunten Berry of M.U.L.E. fame, Jamie Fenton who wrote Gorf and Rebecca Heineman who was elbow-deep in the programming of numerous early Interplay hits.
