DescriptionIn 2014, scientists on Earth succeeded in developing a new breed of artificial soldiers, the Gen-Troopers, designed to feel no emotions and follow orders without hesitation. Ultimately this proved to be an unsuccessful experiment, as years later, the Gen-Troopers have risen against their masters and are now threatening humanity's own existence. A group of scientists took shelter underground in order to develop the ultimate weapon to win the war. The player is the last line of defense between the enemy's fervent assault and this last human stronghold.
Heavy Cannon is an arcade shooter. The player controls the titular cannon and has the objective of preventing enemy forces from landing on the ground. The enemy will engage in an airborne assault using paratroopers, missiles and bombs. Using the cannon's continuous fire, the player can shoot all hostile units, including planes, bombs and paratroopers. If four or more Gen-Troopers land safely on one side of the cannon and survive until the end of the wave, they will conquer the cannon and the game is lost. The player can also lose if the cannon is directly hit by a bomb or missile. There are several ways to remove the paratroopers who have already landed and are out of the cannon's line of sight: shooting a trooper's parachute will make him plunge down and kill whoever is beneath; falling aircraft can crash into the ground and kill everyone in the region; finally, a power-up called Gravity Shells is specifically designed to kill ground units.
Some friendly cargo planes will occasionally appear in order to drop power-ups, although they are also vulnerable to the cannon's fire. There are six types of power-ups and they all have limited ammo: Gravity Shells, Rapid Fire Shells, Armor Piercing Shells (can penetrate and destroy multiple units before going off-screen), Guided Shells, Spray Shells (three shots at the same time) and Heavy Cannon (combines all the previous power-ups).
