DescriptionNapoleon: Interactive Battle Simulator is an educational war simulator in which players take strategic control of either the French or Allied forces during the 1815 Battle of Waterloo. Although an educational game, the player is able to change history and thus it is possible for players to win the game as Napoleon or lose as Wellington.
The game is broken up into two phases, the Situation phase and the Decision phase. During the Situation phase, players are given the time of day, a description of the situation of the battle, and an illustrated campaign map which illustrates the position of forces and highlights important points. Players are then expected to use this information in the Decision phase. During the Decision phase, players must choose between one of two strategic choices to advance the battle, one of which will be marked as historical if the decision was historically taken by that leader at that point in the battle. Each of these choices is accompanied by a written justification for the selected maneuver as well as an illustration of the movements involved in such an action. After the player has selected between the two decisions they are presented with a brief description of their choice followed by an animation of the result using the campaign map, which is accompanied by a brief description of the outcome. The game then assesses the result of the player's decision on a five-point scale; players can achieve a Major Victory, a Minor Victory, a Draw, a Minor Loss, or a Major Loss. The outcome is not pre-scripted and is determined in part by luck.
