A man with the strange name of Qwop (pronounced KWOP) is a small nation’s only chance at the Olympic Games, competing in the 100m sprint. Unfortunately, this small nation has an underfunded sports budget and as a result it produced a runner that has great difficulty to not only to win but to even make the total 100 metre distance without falling over.

QWOP is a ragdoll game where the player controls Qwop’s back and forward movement of his thighs and claves using intentionally awkward controls - the Q, W, O, and P keys respectfully in the browser version, and twin on-screen D-pad diamonds on the iPhone -- to make Qwop run along the track. If Qwop falls to the ground so that his arm or head hits the ground the distance is recorded for the record (which is marked on the track) and the challenge is then restarted. To win Qwop must run the total distance of 100 metres without falling over. There is a surprise waiting at the 50m and 100m marks for players who make it that far.
