DescriptionStarwhal: Prototype Version is the second browser version of the Starwhal game following the original prototype Starwhal: Game Jam Version. It was released to showcase the progress mainly for the Kickstarter crowd funding backers prior to the full release of the game. It was followed up by the commercial release Starwhal (PC / PS3 / PS4) and a third browser version called Starwhal: Demo Version as a limited demo of the commercial game.
The premise is the same as in the first release. Each player controls a narwhal fighting each other using their tusk. The controls are very quirky and ragdoll-like, similar to the ones employed in QWOP. Eighties electro music blares in the background and the arena is shown as a futuristic grid/cage with bright colours. The narwhals are steered around and need to hit each other as jousts. Each narwhal starts with five lives and one is lost when the tusk pierces the narwhal's heart.
Just like the original version it only support a battle in a single arena. The main difference is that now up to four players are supported instead of the original two. Adding AI-controlled bots like in the third version is not supported yet. Players can also determine a number of rules through the amount of rounds, lives, time, and toggling slowmotion and camera shake. It also incorporates new physics and improved controls. The main menu shown as option for single-player challenges, but these are listed as 'coming soon' and are not part of this version.
