I also like how Bump N Jump encourages you to be reckless to rack up the big points; it makes the action all the more addicting. If there's a flaw, it may be those cheap "oil slicks" which cause you to explore on contact. Nevertheless, if you're collecting games for the Intellivision, this one should be near the top of your list.

Bump 'n' Jump is a remarkably playable driving game and it's just as good of a showcase for the Expansion Module #2 as Turbo (1982, Colecovision). The ability to become airborne is where much of the stress and excitement comes from, and this gamble is an addictive hook that constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Shortly after that, Bump 'n Jump started spending less and less time in my Atari. Eventually, my skills (or at least my memory of the tracks) diminished to the point where it was a success just to make it through the first set of seasons. And then, one day, the Atari got pushed aside for newer systems. Still, the time I had making my way through this game has never left my mind. It was simple (bump cars, jump water), but challenging and addictive...which was more than enough to keep me entertained for quite some time.

There's really no scenery to speak of, but the stages are divided into seasons, each with its own color scheme. Bump N Jump's graphics are minimal, but the animation is fast and smooth, and the game is just plain fun. The developers wisely included an option to turn that irritating "happy" background music off (via the black and white switch), and I recommend you do that. Bump N Jump doesn't look like much, but its pick-up-and-play quality is hard to resist. There's only one variation, but it will have you hitting the reset button again and again.
Some nice tunes help keep the experience cheerful while players cause lots of accidents. It’s very challenging, sometimes too much so, but for a player looking for a fun, polished, arcadey racing experience, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bump 'n' Jump is good, clean, uncomplicated fun for the entire family.

Bump 'N' Jump is a lot of fun. It is easy to play but difficult to complete.

Overall, this is a game worth owning if you enjoyed the original.

Though the graphics are unpretentious, each of the cars can easily be identified. Quite a few cars can fill the screen at once without any slowdown or flicker present anywhere. Hitting top speed really makes the game fly by adding a little bit of nausea to the proceedings. To keep this speed going the entire game, the backgrounds are quite un-elaborate and just change colors as the game goes on. Oh, and while the sound effects won't win any awards, that damn theme song will be in your head for days.

Spielerisch bietet Bump 'n' Jump also genug Abwechslung.

Spielerisch bietet Bump 'n' Jump also genug Abwechslung.

This game is pretty bumpin’ hard. You only get three lives, no continues. There’s a somewhat complicated password you can input using both NES controllers that will allow you to continue from where you last left off, but I didn’t have the opportunity to try it out. Besides having no continues, the third level’s roads grow more narrow from time to time, allowing the dad-blasted CPU to bump you into oblivion. It only gets harder from there, but considering it’s a fairly short port of an arcade game, the difficulty is welcome.

If a look and feel perspective isn't as important to you then you might very well regard this game as one of the best. More of you are probably more bound to recognize this game, however, as a racer that had a catchy gameplay dynamic but ultimately fell short of being anything more than a passing memory. Spy Hunter, for example, took similar gameplay dynamics and wrapped it around a more attractive package. Look at how much more successful that game was. That's a true testament to this game's playability.
PSPPSP Minis (Jun 29, 2010)
Like the other two Data East games, this one is probably more of a borderline classic than a true one. I think it’s more fun and holds up better than Lock N Chase, but on the other hand it lacks the variety of gameplay you had in Express Raider. Will most gamers today like it, almost 30 years after it first came out? In all honesty, probably not. But the people who do like it will still like it 30 years from now.
Atari 2600Woodgrain Wonderland (Oct 17, 2016)
I really like Bump ‘n’ Jump but, for some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on, not as much as I used to. Perhaps the graphics could have been better, even within the VCS’ limited capabilities. Still very much recommended.

Here's a simple but entertaining little driving game that was popular in the arcades of the early 80's. You control a jumping car on a vertically-scrolling road, bumping other cars into guardrails or landing on them for points. Be sure to keep an eye out for rapidly-approaching gaps in the road that you'll need to jump over. Bump N Jump's graphics are colorful, with changing scenery that includes a bridge, city, and suburbs. A pleasant background tune plays throughout the game. It's not very intense, but Bump N Jump provides simple arcade enjoyment.
