At this point the question may be asked, “Which Xbox 360 racing game is now best?” Well Project Gotham Racing 3 is still king of the hill in the simulation category, but for overall racing fun, you cannot beat Burnout Revenge. In a smiles-per-mile analysis, it comes in first place every time. Full Auto is lucky it came out a month ago. While Full Auto has its moments, when the two are put head to head there is no contest. The larger variety of racing styles in Burnout Revenge constantly keeps the action fresh where Full Auto quickly gets stale. Burnout Revenge easily earns an “A” score.

Burnout: Revenge might be a spruced up version of a current generation game, but it is without doubt worthy of getting that makeover - and I for one am really glad that EA delayed its release so that Criterion had the time to add that last bit of polish, because it looks, moves, feels and plays absolutely flawlessly, at breakneck pace and with consistently brutal and frenzied action. Without doubt one of the finest Xbox 360 releases yet, this is an absolute must have of a game that gives the best of the launch titles and that initial first wave a serious run for their money. Oh, who am I kidding? It smashes them out of the way and reduces them to a smouldering pile of rapidly shrinking wreckage in the rear view mirror!

Burnout Revenge is perfectly at home on the 360 in HD. The already beautiful scenery and cars make the transition nicely and become crystal clear. The soundtrack and audio effects are as good as they ever were.

An excellent game, by far one of the best racing games I have played, just for the pure adrenalin rush that blindly speeds though your veins just as quick as the cars racing through the streets in the game.

It’s not often I can wholeheartedly recommend a game for mandatory purchase, especially at it’s full $59 launch price, but Burnout Revenge for the 360 is one of those games that you don’t want to sit back and wait for a price drop. There is just too much fun to be had NOW! Whether you are a fan of the previous games or just want to experience the absolute best in arcade racing, Burnout Revenge is a game that you won’t be able to stop playing once you start, so grab a copy today and clear your calendar for the next six months.

Burnout: Revenge is quite simply the best arcade racing game ever made. Everything that you loved about the last game is still here and kicking, but with added modes, more action, a faster sense of speed, and some truly addictive multiplayer modes, this game will undoubtedly go down in history as being the epitome of action racing this generation and possibly even the next.

Last year, EA took Criterion Studios, the developer of the acclaimed Burnout Series, under their wing after Acclaim crashed and burned. Not only did this mean more exposure for the Burnout Series, but more funding to make the game even sweeter. The result was Criterion’s first EA published game, Burnout 3. BO3 was not only arguably the best racing game of last year, but also possibly the best overall game of the year as well. It not only took what was great from the earlier versions, but also provided more options, additional visual flair, and fun, addicting game play to boot. One year later, Criterion returned on the Xbox and PS2 and one-upped their beloved franchise. It’s a few months later and Xbox 360 owners get not only everything that those version had to offer, but we now get it oh so much prettier with extra modes too boot!

Overall this has to be one of the best games I’ve ever played. Visually the game is stunning, the upgraded high-definition graphics really makes this game worth the extra fifty quid, but that’s not all. Online the game is a lot smoother, plus the whole community just has a real buzz to it unlike literally every other Xbox 360 game. Each and every sound that comes out of your speakers will blow you off your feet and by the time you’ve completed this game the Xbox 1440 will have been released. As soon as you have booted this game up and have started a race that will be it, you will realise that every other car game on the market is just so inferior. Did Criterion make the right choice when they flipped off Microsoft, of course they did, the new game is much more than just an Xbox port and I would most definitely recommend you get this game, no I demand you get this absolutely amazing game.

If you are a fan of any of the BurnOut games, then go pick up Revenge immediately. This is the best arcade racer I have ever played, fans of the many street racing games flooding the market should check this out. If you are sick and tired of hardcore simulators like Gran Turismo, Project Gotham and Forza than this is the perfect alternative for you. Any way you look at it, no matter what type of racing games you prefer, this one is a must buy for all.

I do have one minor complaint, if you will, nothing that will hinder the experience too much, but the shadows are a bit dark at times. I played on an HDTV and still had problems at times seeing what was in front of me, usually an appropriately placed pillar, causing quite a bit of trial and error racing. Not that I mind having to learn a track, but it does help seeing what is in your path. Outside of that, I offer up some big Kudos to the Burnout Revenge team, the franchise has yet to disappoint, keep up the good work. Game On!

Overall Burnout: Revenge manages to grip and thrill like few other games, particularly in the arcade racer category. Its sense of speed, its cars and tracks, and its pure visceral thrills make this game an absolute buy for every racing fan. If you have friends or family that are not into racing games, get this one for them regardless. Odds are very good they will be hooked almost immediately, if not on the racing then undoubtedly on the crashing. We are not sure whose decision it was to release a new Burnout game so soon after the last one, but all we can say to EA and Criterion is, THANKS!

Where Takedown innovated Revenge expands but that does not mean there is not alot of brand new fun to be had. If you are a Burnout fanatic and have played all the games in the series then you need to play this. If you never played a Burnout game before then Revenge is a great place to jump into a fantastic series. The game does everything right to make it a top notch title. Revenge is the best Burnout to date and perhaps the best arcade racer ever to grace a home console. Now it's onto the next-gen!

If the last Burnout game you played and loved was Takedown then this game is a must buy in every sense of the phrase. However, if you chose to pick up Revenge on the Xbox just a few short months ago, then more thought is needed before taking the plunge with what is almost the same game. There are a few updates to be seen, but nothing that make it a must buy if you owned a previous version. This is the best incarnation of Burnout, but it’s only a sample of what could be done if the game was made solely for next gen hardware!

When EA announced that their newly acquired developer Criterion were going to be releasing a new Burnout game hot on the heels of their last release, Burnout 3, there was a mixture of reactions among fans. Burnout 3 was a fantastic game that added a host of new features, enhanced graphics, and a spectacular new crash mode. Some were foaming at the mouth for a new dose of action, whereas others were sceptical that anything new could be brought to the table. Was EA merely trying to milk a good franchise with nothing other than more of the same? Well, fans of the series need not have worried about EA's intentions. Burnout: Revenge is hands-down the best game in the popular series and quite possibly the best arcade racer ever to come to consoles.

So to summarise: Burnout Revenge isn’t just a cheap knock-off of the Xbox version; it’s like that luxury sports car you wanted but needed a few more frills on, packed to the nines with nitrous and enough Bling to sink a battleship. If you’re a gamer that loves speed, thrills and spills, then Burnout Revenge 360 should be a game on your shelf right now! You might wonder why it's not a 10/10, that's mainly because it is still Burnout Revenge and while it has lots of new paint and tweaks they are still mostly cosmetic and nothing is really too new in the game. The additional 360 car and the retooled Crash mode are welcome additions and alterations, but they still do not elevate it above the score.

The races on Xbox Live are wild and crazy affairs, with players not only racing for the finish line but trying like mad to slam each other into oncoming traffic or a concrete embankment. In fact, there is one online mode that divides the players into two teams, one which is trying to reach the finish line and the other which is trying to eliminate all of the racers on the first team before they do so. An absolute blast. When playing online you have the option of competing in ranked matches to see how you stack up against the rest of the world. In a pretty cool touch the game keeps track of who has taken out whom in any race, so you can enter a race and instantly see who is ripe for revenge. Go online at your own peril because you could get hooked. Don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Burnout Revenge is decidedly the most intense racing game available on the Xbox 360. If you haven’t played the game on another console, you’ll definitely want to add this to your collection. If you have, the improvements are worthwhile though it’s kind of hard to recommend the $60 game if you’ve already paid $50 for a similar version.

The cars are all fake, it's totally true that blind luck and reckless speed can win over skill, and sometimes you get screwed by traffic you couldn't see or a wall nubbin that stick out just far enough to cause an unexpected crash. Without a doubt, these are all problems to varying degrees. But, as a person who likes fun, I say either get over it or go crawl back into that soulless hovel you call a life. So go out, have fun, destroy some fake cars, and make a bunch of enemies online. After all, even failing in this game is fun.

Come, Revenge beckons. Smash stuff. Race fast. Be merry and also joyous. Players are challenged to compete in a series of driving exhibitions (including straight-out sprints to the finish line and crash-’em-ups) where the aim is not just to win, but do so in a most destructive fashion. Competing drivers, be they computer-controlled or human, are encouraged to send the opposition crashing into guardrails, knock them flying into cavernous abysses, or force them to hurtle straight into a variety of unyielding obstacles. Crashes are spectacular happenings, punctuated with bursts of smoke and flame, shattered glass, imploded fenders and twisting, soaring, spinning car bodies. Each wreck is a visual affair to be savored and a delightful treat for a job nastily done.

Burnout Revenge is an amazing racing game. Criterion Games recently commented that they were disappointed that this generation was going to over soon. After seeing their work with Burnout Revenge, I’m inclined to agree. It may not be as dramatic a change as Burnout 3, but changes just enough to be a worthwhile game.

Burnout Revenge takes things a step, nigh a leap, further than the others by the complete overhaul of pretty much every element in the Burnout formula making Burnout Revenge really a massively different game than any of the prior releases. And in a world where racing games often tend to make only incremental changes with each subsequent release (Need for Speed, Gran Turismo) and tout them as a “new”, having a series like Burnout totally reinvent itself time after time is a real treat.

The high score shows how much I love this game. It has something for any racing fan and is a well designed game. I loved the new challenges the multiple routes and the revenge weapons. I would have liked to see a version come out without any issue with the online mode but again the game is too good and it’s something that will be fixed. Having logged too many hours on last year’s game, this one beats it hands down in every way. Burnout Revenge will entertain racing fans off or online and is just a blast to play. I have no doubt this one will be taking home a lot of awards this year. So far hands down it’s the best racing game I have played all year. It’s arcade racing mixed with some real skill needed and keeps players hooked for hours!

After a pair of installments that languished under the Acclaim name, Burnout had a breakout year in 2004 under the Electronic Arts banner. The original games were good, if not great titles that demonstrated potential for Criterion's arcade racer, but Burnout 3: Takedown was the ultimate culmination of the ideas brought to the table. Mixing in a high level of terror, racing around tracks at high speeds with traffic all around with the ability to 'take out' opposing cars, or causing as much mayhem as possible in Crash mode, Burnout 3 was the runaway racing game of the year (some even thought it had a crack at overall game of the year, it was that well received), even if it was a dull year for the genre, and possibly the new benchmark to boot. A year later, Burnout returns with the new Revenge subtitle, emphasizing the battle racing the game personifies.

The Internet tells me that New Jersey , my current state of residence, has the highest population density of anywhere in the country. Naturally, this spells for lots of cars in places where lots of cars should not be. Every day, I drive home from work, and am stuck in innumerable amounts of traffic on that hideous beast known as the Garden State Parkway . Every once in awhile, I get that urge to just slam the gas pedal and ram into every car in sight. Not for the sake of accomplishing anything. Just for the sake of being a jerk, really. Though I've not conducted any scientific studies of any sort, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume I am not the only person who feels this way.

I have had a hard time trying to figure out how Burnout Revenge is not a system seller. And the only reason I could come up with was that the game has really been out for 6 months prior to the Xbox 360 release. And not everyone is a racing fan. But it doesn't get any closer than that. The game is an absolute 100% must have game for the Xbox 360. And if you are heading out to the store this weekend to pick yours up, don't leave the store without a copy of this game. Burnout Revenge is the most white-knuckle, seat-of-your-pants, high-octane, how-many-more-cliches-do-I-have-to-go-though-to-get-you-to-go-out-and-buy-this game. Next to Project Gotham Racing 3, which to me still is the best racer I know, Burnout Revenge is right there next to it. Yes, you can say wow again. It's ok.

The Burnout-series is without a doubt one of the most popular arcade racers of the moment. Especially with the previous title, Burnout: Takedown, Criterion hit the nail on the head. Thanks to adding even more spectacular crashes and the integration of them in the gameplay a very explosive coktail was served! Of course we want more of that candy and we get plenty in the newest version, Burnout Revenge.

The engine roared with the ferocity of an F15 fighter plane when I kicked in the nitrous oxide. As the crippling speeds increased, the buildings liquefied into unintelligible blurs and the wind hissed violently. The highly congested highway that my road rocket barreled uncontrollably toward should have spelled disaster, but rather it opened a window of great opportunity. Although my instincts pleaded to swerve out of the way of the traffic, the drive to win forced my foot onto the gas, hurtling my car directly into the backend of each car on the highway. The vehicles that I selfishly brutalized were either sent flying into the air or into other drivers that were making their daily commutes. The blacktop was gripped with an unprecedented level of chaos and the smile on my face stretched so much that it hurt. Within all of this mayhem, I managed to send a car flying directly on top of one of my rivals. As his car exploded into flames, I zipped by into a commanding lead.

In the end, it is hard to show on paper what makes Revenge infinitely better than Takedown, but what is clear is that every fan of Burnout 3 will undoubtedly pick up this new iteration and enjoy it just as much. That’s saying a lot for any sequel and proves that a lot of balancing and thought has been put into this version. Veterans may not feel as challenged this time around, but the fun factor is still there. Burnout 3 could easily have been dubbed “Adrenaline Rush: Reinvented”. But Revenge has clearly “Perfected” it altogether.

While the 360 version is overall the better one, I have to take into account the long load times and some of the server issues. No fan of the series would regret buying the 360 version, but it has some issues online that need to be fixed. The change made back to the auto launch in crash may take time to adjust to but overall the title is great and a real challenge. While a bit different then the Xbox one, Burnout Revenge is still the best Arcade-style racer around and will be a great addition to your Xbox 360 library!

Burnout Revenge can be summed up into 27 words: the most bad-ass, adrenaline-rushing, non-stop action, pedal-to-the-metal, look-out-for-that-18-wheeler racing game ever to grace a game console. There were times in game that I had to pause it just to resettle myself in my chair and the controller in my hands. Just like its predecessor, Burnout 3, Revenge relies on high-speed driving and dangerous decision-making to be successful. Want to follow the rules of the road, take a field trip to the DMV. Putting it all on the line to stay one step ahead of your opponents justly defines the gameplay of Burnout Revenge.

As a reviewer, it is hard (and mostly unheard of) to give a sequel a higher score than its predecessor. In this case, factor in that the predecessor in question is a landmark title like Burnout 3: Takedown and that this iteration simply builds upon greatness and you’d have a good case against scoring it higher. But at the same time, Burnout Revenge tweaks and fixes and cajoles enough options to make it stand on its own as an infinitely better title. And shouldn’t a title be judge on the merit of its peers, regardless of if they happen to be prequels or not? I think so. And Revenge makes a strong case that’s almost impossible to ignore. It takes everything that was good about Takedown and makes it better.

Xbox 360Gaming Target
I know what you're thinking – here we are, another port of a current generation game, ported to the Xbox 360 with little to separate it from the version that's cheaper and older. Just another port on a console that's already seen enough ports, in the same way Dreamcast had too many half-assed ports and not enough new games to draw in gamers hedging on a next generation plunge. But don't fear; though Burnout Revenge technically is a port from the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions, it's not just a simple copy/paste with a slight graphical touchup; they actually spent time with the game and crafted some new stuff to go along with the old, great stuff.

Judged on its racing element however, Burnout Revenge is as polished and addictive as can be. If you crave arcade-style racing, look no further.

I've never met a person who didn't like at least some part of Burnout, be it the crash modes, the races or the ferocious takedowns. If you missed out on Burnout Revenge's first go around, do yourself a favor and pick this version up. It's a lot prettier (especially on a HD set), and the newly added online modes make it something that's sure to heat up your 360 for at least a month or two. The question becomes harder for those that already picked up the last version. Know that the single player game is pretty much the same, so you're really paying sixty bucks for the new graphics and multiplayer features. If it's worth it to you, go wild. Otherwise, save your money for Oblivion.

Burnout Revenge is an excellent arcade racing game no matter which console you get it for. For those that haven't picked it up yet for PS2 or Xbox, the 360 version is an easy recommend, because not only is this game great, but so much was done by Criterion to ensure that it flexes some 360 muscle. If you have HD, like to play on Live, and are comfortable with there not being many more features from the current gen version, then I'd still recommend it. It's a better destruction based arcade racer than Full Auto, gives you a much better sense of speed than Most Wanted, and is ultimately about as deep as PGR3 and Ridge Racer 6. Definitely a title worth checking out, if not outright purchasing.

Burnout Revenge might not be the revolution that Burnout 3 was, but in the end, it changes more than enough to make it feel like a very different game. It's a technical marvel, but more importantly than that, it's one of the most exciting racing games ever made. Unless you don't have the reflexes to handle it, Burnout Revenge is a must-own game, especially for fans of online competition.

Criterion is a genius. First they made Burnout, which launched an entirely new sub-genre of racing games. Then they made it better with Burnout 2, and revolutionized the genre once more with Burnout 3: Takedown. Mind-blowing graphics, unprecedented speed, interactive crash sequences that put Hollywood to shame – how can they top this? Where will the series go to next to achieve the next evolutionary step in high-speed, rule-defying racing? To near omnipotence.

Not many racing games come along with that pure adrenalyn rush quite like Burnout does. And no game got a bigger facelift before it's release than Burnout did when EA bought the rights away from now defunct Acclaim before releasing Burnout 3. Most people know that we really liked and respected Acclaim for what it did in the gaming industry while it was around. But playing Burnout 3 brought about the reality of why Acclaim is no longer around. But that's a debate for another day. So after Burnout 3 tore up the racing genre and become one of the top racing games of last year, how would EA and veteran developer Criterion possibly get any better? The answer is right here in front of you; Burnout Revenge, the next in line in the acclaimed series. It's much more than just new cars and tracks. It's an experience that only Burnout can bring you. It is by far one of the best arcade racing games on the market today, and you're about to see why.

PlayStation 2Lawrence
One of the elements that the series has lacked in the past is a sense of verticality and alternate routes. It’s not a new concept and it would’ve greatly benefited the Burnout universe. Criterion finally rose to the occasion and added many more opportunities to get major air, usually preceded by finding alternate routes that are mostly indicated by flashing blue lights. Sure, making the alternate routes so obvious takes away from the satisfaction of discovery, but the game is way too fast for it to be designed otherwise.
91
PlayStation 2GameSpot
It may have started out as just another post-Ridge Racer driving game with a unique focus on beautifully destructive car crashes, but over the years, the Burnout series has really carved out its own spot in the racing genre. Last year's Burnout 3: Takedown was when the series truly came into its own by achieving a near-perfect balance between high-speed racing and nefarious racing tactics designed to put the other racers out of commission. With a name like Burnout Revenge, you might expect the latest game in the series to be a little rougher, a little meaner. And you'd be right. While it isn't a total reinvention, Burnout Revenge makes significant alterations to the Burnout formula that essentially render every other game in the series obsolete.

Last year’s Burnout 3: Takedown caught me completely off guard. This has happened to me a couple times with third installments, most recently (and notably) with Grand Theft Auto III. There was something about the game, its sense of speed and its incredible wrecks, that distinguished it from every other racing game out there. That made it a huge hit.

Wer soviel Action verträgt, sollte unbedingt zuschlagen!

Those expecting Burnout Revenge to provide the same type of revolution as Burnout 3: Takedown were destined to be disappointed. Burnout Revenge does little to redefine the arcade racing genre, but does plenty to separate itself from its immediate predecessor through the introduction of new gameplay mechanics that have a significant impact on the feel of the game. It stands as the best arcade racing game of the past year, and arguably the fastest racer ever made, making it a no-brainer of a purchase for anyone with a slight interest in the racing genre, speed, or destruction in general.

Burnout 4 Legends was a game that could have been seen as a rehash but instead has to be one of the most must own racers of 2005. Criterion have worked extremely hard over the past twelve months to get this game ready it appears, and if this is the final BO game to hit this generation of consoles, it has gone out on a high. We can't wait to see Burnout Next Generation, as if this game is any indication, it will be THE arcade game of the decade.

Burnout is a title of exceptional calibre to have on the Xbox 360. The few introductions along with presentation improvements make this an essential purchase if you missed out on Burnout Revenge the first time around, whilst those who consider themselves fanatics should also check it out for Live Revenge and Burnout on the next-gen...

The Burnout series is weird. It's the same principle every time; we just get a few new ideas every year. But despite of that every game instantly catches your attention and creates an urge to play for hours on end. Alas the single-player portion gets old after some time and thus it's the multiplayer races that will keep you entertained. The new addiction revenge part is doing that job perfectly, though, and if you like arcade racing games, Burnout: Revenge is the best you can get for the 360. Criterion has done it once again.

For players who already own a recent version of Burnout and have no interest in online play, it's hard to justify a full price purchase towards what are essentially a few minor new features and a visual upgrade. But judged against its peers, Burnout Revenge sets the standard for breakneck speed and destruction in the action racing arena. Anyone new to the series should rush out and add this to their collection.

Xbox 360Worth Playing
A lot of critics, me included, have knocked the likes of EA for foisting rushed and unready titles onto the market that simply slapped a new coat of paint on an old game. I was concerned that EA was cashing in yet again with Burnout Revenge for the X360, but I am glad to say that I was wrong. The visuals don't merely look like an overhaul, the sound is as amazing as ever, and it definitely makes good use of high definition and Xbox Live. While it is technically a port, BR is also a significant improvement on an already amazing game. If you like racing games – even if you're a PGR 3 realism junkie – you need to play this title, especially online. For those of you wondering if the X360 is worth the purchase, BR is one more reason to make the move.

No doubt a new title entirely rather than an enhanced re-release would have been more welcome, but less than six months in, Burnout: Revenge provides the Xbox 360 with some glorious moments of unhinged debauchery. Despite the aforementioned changes, 2006’s Revenge still has one thing in common with 2005’s Revenge; it’s entirely formidable. Meaningful. Consequential.

While those who already own either the Xbox or PS2 versions may not find enough new elements in the Xbox 360 version to warrant a purchase, the game remains to be a exhilarating and enjoyable experience that feels even better with the updated visuals and sound. If your looking for a destructive, fast-paced and action packed arcade racer for the Xbox 360, Burnout Revenge is certainly well worth a look.

Sigh. So NOW here I sit again, with a dilemma as to why I'm giving Burnout Revenge a 4.5 out of 5. But I've just learned to really accept it, there's a couple of things that prevent this from being an all-out dreamy ride. However, that shouldn't stop you from taking it. The illustrious track design, the demanding skills that you'll need to outpour into the game, and the true essence of speed are more than worth the price of admission. And that's not even getting into the multiplayer stuff. Revenge is, once again, the ride of your life. And just wait till we get a taste of Burnout 360 next year. Whoa, baby.

Last year's Burnout 3: Takedown was the hands-down best racing game of 2004 and of the generation as a whole. The development team for Burnout Revenge had a tough task going into 2005, approximately a year after Takedown, and transforming the genre once again. The result is a competently crafted sequel that, unlike its predecessor, does not revolutionize the way we play racers. Instead, it builds upon, and improves upon in many ways, what already existed last year. As it is, Burnout Revenge is a solid effort by Criterion, given the time restraints that were pressed upon them by corporate management. Until the next-generation effort of Burnout, which I do hope is a ground-breaking experience, you're assured a splendid good time with Burnout Revenge.

Overall, Burnout Revenge is a good game. It’s no Burnout 3, though, by any means. Burnout 3 was just faster, more chaotic (in a good way), and still produces the best crashes to date. What Burnout Revenge is, is a stepping-stone for Criterion. They tried new things; some worked some didn’t. Hopefully, when the first next-gen Bunrout title emerges Criterion will have not only fixed the problems but also made the best Burnout title to date. I’m betting they will.

Burnout: Revenge does make a number of strides over its predecessor that makes it stand out as the most innovative title in the series. Unfortunately, some of the upgrades also winds up diluting the strength of the game just a bit. Revenge will still fulfill your need for speed, and if you can get over some of the lighter changes to the format, you’ll still find it an enjoyable game that will take over your PS2 or Xbox for quite some time. This is an easy recommendation for any racing fan or owner of the system.

Burnout Revenge does what it’s trying to do very well. It is a thrilling fast-paced racer with plenty of adrenaline. The upgrade to a next generation platform has definitely done what was already a brilliant title, good. If you fancy something different, something exciting then Burnout won’t disappoint. For people who prefer the more realistic side of racers, then I suggest you stay away. If you owned Burnout on the Xbox and have fond memories, but are unsure whether just the graphics upgrade is worth a purchase, because very little content was added, then it is a decision which might be based on what your friends are playing. Burnout Revenge is, I'm sure of it, the last great arcade racer on the current gen systems. Certainly the boys and girls at Criterion will be focusing their attentions on bringing the Burnout experience to the next gen systems from this point forward. That's not to say that everything will be completely hunky dory for all Burnout fans. Some may find the altered direction of the basic fundamentals of the game a drastic change which makes the game far too easy in certain places. Burnout 2 fans who found last years game too much of a shock to the system might delight in the direction Revenge takes thsi year. In any event you can't say that Criterion was resting on it's laurels. Any gamer who gets off on high speed hijinks will find that Revenge is a dish best served now!

Burnout Revenge is easily one of the better in the series. The only problem with the game is that there aren't any huge improvements to the gameplay, like there was when Burnout 3: Takedown hit the shelvescame out. However, if you are a Burnout fanatic (like myself), you will no doubt want to pick this title up. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a fun, arcade style racer, you may also want to pick it up. At the very least, rent it. Overall this has to be one of the best games I’ve ever played. Visually the game is stunning, the upgraded high-definiton graphics really makes this game worth the extra fifty quid, but that’s not all.

Being able to look back on the series is the easiest way to determine where this entry falls. It arguably does as much right as Burnout 3, but the controversial change to traffic checking could very well be a sign they're out of ideas. Its inclusion, like many over the short lifespan of the series so far, is obviously to keep this fresh regardless of how annual a new version is released. Burnout Revenge is memorable, but only to those who can embrace the changes that rip the heart right out of their favorite series, only to replace it with something that turns it into something else entirely.

Klarer Punktsieg auf ganzer Linie. Sehr gut gemacht Criterion. Burnout Revenge sort of comes across as a slick new sports car with the paint color that you really wanted for it. Nothing in particular about the ride has changed much, but you can just sense some appreciation coming from the fact you dropped the extra dough to give it that extra shine. The 360 version does have a couple of new goodies going for it, including a nice twist in the online play, a few new crash scenarios, and a high-resolution gloss that brings out the best in the 360.

When you think about it, Burnout has always been about revenge. Deflecting competitors into oncoming traffic or launching them off highway guardrails is aggression that is not likely to go unanswered. Burnout 3: Takedown refined the pure competitive aspect of the series by focusing on inter-driver combat and making that the central key to winning races. Burnout Revenge is further refinement: a noticeable increase in A.I. aggression makes things really personal.

Paybacks are a bitch. With Criterion's newest installment of the Burnout series, the UK-based developer takes its formula of aggressive racing and over-the-top crashes and pumps them into overdrive. Burnout 3: Takedown set the precedent for many non-racing fans to sink their teeth into the high-speed, high-stakes world of non-licensed cars -- no automotive manufacturer wants to lend its name to cars that are getting so badly banged up -- and Hollywood-like explosions. The new sequel, Burnout Revenge, takes everything that made B3 such a smash hit (no pun intended) and pumps it into overdrive.

EA, the industry's biggest publisher, isn't exactly thought of favourably by the so called 'hardcore' gamers. Destined to hate them forever, these people hang around internet forums determined to dismiss each and every EA release as a rehash, cash-in, movie license, yearly update or worse. What are these people to do when the most entertaining racer this generation of consoles has seen is released by EA? They'll probably stick to their guns, wanting to play no part in the continued success of a company they hate, but that's their loss. The rest of us don't need their endorsement to have a cracking good time.

The general trading of paint, bump drafting, and blatant disregard for the racing line sometimes happen in the world of wheel-to-wheel motorsports, but in Criterion’s Burnout Revenge, these acts are REQUIRED. What is the appeal of a car race? This question has been asked repeatedly and my answer lately has been "To see a wreck!" I'm not trying to condemn someone to a morbid and tragic accident, instead I just want to see the cars bending in ways unimaginable. For video gamers the Burnout series has provided those sick and twisted minds (wreck junkies) their ultimate pleasure. Instead of creating just another racing simulation why not create a game where wrecking your car is not only encouraged but creating the biggest wreck possible is a goal. With Burnout Revenge for the Xbox 360 we're treated to the biggest, boldest and most impressive version of Burnout yet.

Burnout Revenge, at first glance, falls into the second category. Everything we said last fall in the reviews of the PS2 and Xbox versions still applies. Other than that the game is pretty much exactly what you would expect after playing Burnout Revenge on the original Xbox. If the game did not already exist in the current-gen the score would be higher, but it certainly is a great game in its own right. If you are a Live player then this is definitely a worthy purchase even if you have played the Xbox version. If you are not a Live player we recommend you rent it before you buy. The loading times and the inability to skip some after-race bells and whistles certainly detract from the game, but not enough to make it unplayable.

Burnout Revenge reflects a shift in the Burnout series towards more exciting gameplay. As a result, some gamers may complain about the lack of skill required to master the game. This issue aside, the game provides a ton of fun with its addictive gameplay, solid visuals, outstanding audio, and great control scheme. It may not add as much to the series as its previous installment, but it does have a lot to offer. If you are a Burnout fan or anyone who likes arcade-racing, at least give this one a trial run.

Criterion set quite a task before itself: create a sequel to what is arguably the best arcade racing title ever, Burnout 3: Takedown. Said game was praised left and right not only critically and by gamers everywhere, but by essentially everyone in the IGN offices, which is a very, very rare thing.

Something that has a more lasting impact on the overall game though is that checked traffic is there for your benefit and your benefit alone. Computer-driven opponents seem incapable of taking you out with a vehicle they send astray, meaning that you now have access to a weapon they in effect don't, giving you a definite edge. You also don't need any skill to use checked traffic, so it's very easy -- and quite common actually -- to take out a rival without doing anything but plowing through same-way traffic. Sure, you lose a small bit of speed, but your gain in boost makes up for that somewhat, and your wave of chaotic destruction that'll take out any opponents nearby certainly makes up for that. Again, it can look pretty cool, but it makes races unbalanced.

You have got to hand it to Criterion. The developer said it asked Microsoft four times to hook up backward compatibility on the 360 for the best arcade-racing franchise in console history, and with little results. Screw it, said Criterion. Let's make a 360 version of Burnout Revenge instead.

The only real drawback is that the game forces you to play online to accumulate any achivement points. It seems that there should be a good balance between online/local points - ss that too much to ask for??? I guess they tried to make up for that by giving you in game awards and trophies that don’t increase your gamer score. Okay, besides the fact that the makers of the game forget that not everyone live on Xbox Live Burnout Revenge is a hell of a good time. Even though playing Revenge I was not wowed with fun and new things the way Burnout 3 did, I still think this is the best racing game out there. It’s pretty. It’s fun. You are supposed to crash!

If you only just picked up Burnout 3 as a budget title and are still playing through it, I honestly can't say if there's enough to justify you heading back out to pick up Burnout Revenge. However, the sensation of speed, the massive amounts of carnage and the extremely polished experience all add up to create the coolest game in the series so far, and one of the top arcade racing experiences for the Xbox and Xbox Live. While it could be harder, it's a very exhilarating game that offers up hours and hours of high speed thrills.

Six months ago, EA and Criterion released the fourth game in the Burnout series, Burnout Revenge. The game made some interesting refinements to the Burnout formula and was, generally speaking, totally radical. Now, Burnout Revenge is making an appearance on the Xbox 360 with better graphics, a bevy of new sound effects, and a few minor tweaks and tunings that tighten up the whole game a little bit. If you're late to the Burnout party, this is a great time to get involved and bust up some cars. But if you've spent the last six months playing Burnout Revenge on the Xbox or the PlayStation 2, there probably isn't enough new content here to get you excited all over again.

Although there’s no recipe for greatness, some games just have that secret sauce that keeps you up at night thinking about the next level, the next story development or the next big boss battle.

This title is almost exactly the same as its Xbox counterpart. This version is just as fun and exciting as before, but it isn’t an incredible leap forward. It is slightly better due to the enhanced visuals and new features, but that isn’t enough for those who have already played the game. I’d recommend this title to those who have never played the Xbox version or have little experience with it. Others would find the game to be too much of the same and a waste of $60.

Although this is basically a graphically improved Current-Gen Burnout: Revenge, I just can’t help but praise the game. I own Burnout: Revenge on my PS2, and I can honestly say this game is still worth the money, simply for the happiness of being able to play one of my all-time favourite games in High-Definition. If you’ve never played this game before, then you have to get it. If you already have, and you loved the original version, than you’re bound to love the 360 version, simply for the high-definition online crash action! Eat your heart out PGR3, Burnout: Revenge is back!

After the agonizing months of not being able to play Burnout, I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. Sure, I would have loved some new levels, modes, or even a course builder, but I can deal with this port. All you developers out there who are just going to port over your games on the 360, take a note form Criterion. This how it’s supposed to be done, but don’t let the idea of this game being a port discourage you from buying this game. If you have a 360 and have played Burnout before, go pick it up again. For a port, it’s more than worth $60, if only until a truly next-gen Burnout hits the shelves which should be sometime this fall.

In conclusion, Burnout Revenge for the Xbox 360 is the best racer out there in my opinion. I loved Need for Speed and thought PGR was just OK, but this game is more my style. If you are more into the action of racing and the wrecks then look no further, this is the racing game for you. With Moto GP being the next racing title to look forward to on the 360 us racing fans need something to tide us over until then. The gameplay, graphics, sound, and online play make this a must own for me, see you online!

Although this isn’t the next-gen Burnout that we hoped for and the new features don’t really make a second purchase essential, this is far from an indictment. Burnout Revenge for 360 is a fantastic experience, capturing the essence of the series better than any of its predecessors. But if you’re still playing Burnout Revenge on your Xbox, you might want to consider waiting until the series’ next installment. We still love us some Burnout and can’t wait for its first real next-gen appearance. This isn’t it, but it’ll do nicely.

Make no mistake, Burnout Revenge is an excellent game, and if you're after a fun arcade racer it's hard to beat. The numerous tweaks and minor improvements make for a solid evolution over the Xbox version and allows this version to hold its own as more than just a cheap port. But with a RRP of $119.95 it's a steep price to pay, especially since the Xbox version can be picked up for less than half of that.

Burnout Revenge is a really, really fun game and although I think its long-term appeal may be limited it'll be one of the first games you reach for when your mates come round for a beer. A must for those who haven't got any of the later games in the series.

If you bought Revenge last year, maybe it would be best for you to rent it. While this is a great upgrade from the games last year, it’s still relatively unchanged. However, if you’re new to this game, it’s a must purchase and among the best Xbox 360 games yet. Also, if you’re a past owner of the game and are down with the Xbox Live play on the 360, it’s worth it. You’ll find yourself addicted to the game within minutes and with a great new host of community options with the rival tracking, you’ll have a lot of fun. Burnout Revenge 360 is one of the most fun, heart-pounding video games out there and is a safe bet for any 360 gamer.

Burnout: Revenge is a great game, there’s no denying that, and the series has always been top notch in both fun factor and innovation in an increasingly stale genre. Kudos goes to Criterion for not turning the series into some illegal street racer and ruining a good name (read: L.A. Rush). Still while all the new tracks, short-cuts, bonuses, and tunes go a long way in polishing the experience, you still can’t help but feel as though maybe Revenge would have been better off released next year when some new innovations might be included in the package as well.

Xbox 360Game Revolution
And here's to a successful port. Burnout: Revenge for the 360 is basically the same experience as last year's Burnout: Revenge with some streamlining in both the graphics and online features. Some purists may still be turned off by the confusing tracks and the "traffic-check" carnage, and there probably isn't enough new here to warrant a buy for those who have already played through Revenge last year, but the engine is running more smoothly than ever, adding another solid racer to the growing 360 garage.

So is Burnout Revenge better than its illustrious forbear? The controls are tighter, the look is more detailed, there are more vehicles and thousands of little tweaks, so in many ways, sure. But while some will dig the new chaotic maps and aggressive traffic-checking, others may be turned off by the loss of precision and the dependence upon blind chance. Either way, it’s an impressive game, one with a proper understanding of the benefits of road rage.

Whether or not you should buy Burnout Revenge on the Xbox 360 is a tricky question. If you don't already own a version of the game, then there's no question - pick this up today. Even with its previous-gen roots, Burnout Revenge is a brilliant Xbox 360 title that deserves a place in your collection. If you own or have played a lot of the Xbox or PlayStation 2 version, it's a much harder decision to make. With the main additions being made to the online game, this should be your deciding factor, along with some nicely sharpened visuals for anyone with a hi-def display.

The real question, then, is where Criterion can take the series from here? Sure, there are the inevitable true next-gen visual upgrades that will come with an original focus on the new formats, and it still remains the case that more could be done to differentiate and broaden the car and track lineups. Yet in many ways, Revenge appears the complete take on the current Burnout blueprint. And so, to potential buyers, a hearty recommendation; to the developers, a slap on the back but a whispered warning: Revenge is the very definition of sensory overload and outright escapism. It’s arcade gaming at its finest, without an arcade in sight. The challenge now is to resist the temptation to spoil the mix with unnecessary additions. On current form, however, Criterion seem like the last people in need of outside advice.

The best addition to the already addictive online mode is that the game keeps track of your rivals. If you have one up on that punk from California it'll warn you while the engines are revving that he's going to be after you this round, it will also tell you who has the most points, so you know at whom to aim.

Frankly, this pattern of diminishing returns from a once-innovative series is nothing that we haven't seen before from EA. This is their general pattern: incremental upgrades from year to year, with just enough flash (or new rosters) to justify a new purchase. It's been their routine on the major sports titles like Madden and NBA Live, and it's also become the case with their line of extreme titles like SSX and the Street games. It might be time for EA to let the Burnout field lie fallow for a year or two, before one of the most exciting titles of the current generation becomes a tired has-been in the next generation. “Deja vu all over again” simply isn’t going to be enough for me to keep buying this series.

In my view this game is the best racer currently out for the Xbox 360 and is pure arcade gold. If you've never experienced the automotive chaos that is Burnout Revenge before, then head straight down to your local game store and demand a copy, you won’t be disappointed. As for those who have already sampled Burnout Revenge on the Xbox. You may get a sense of déjà vu, but the revenge is so much sweeter on the Xbox 360.

The title is certainly the best in the series in every way. With 36 achievements and a ton of single player events, it should keep gamers busy for a while. Still, once the magic wears off, this is a game that could very well see a lot of shelf time, being occasionally picked up between completions of other in depth games. It's possible that the strength of it's online play might keep it popular for a while, but there is a lot of competition out there already and more to come. It offers up the best in carnage style racing without a doubt, I just question how long it can hold players attention span.

Burnout Revenge on the 360 retains all the fuel-injected fun from the original games, making a successful leap to the next-gen platforms. However, in all honesty it is hard to recommend the game to anyone who has played the game on Xbox or PS2, as aside from the admittedly minor tweaks and additions, it is the same game with shinier graphics. If you are a Burnout aficionado or newcomer to the series, the game surpasses Namco’s Ridge Racer 6 for arcade thrills and power-sliding action, with wholesale destruction throw in as well. However, if you’ve played the game’s previous incarnations, perhaps a rental would be advisable before paying the premium price for a game you played last year.

For owners of the PS2 and Xbox versions, Burnout Revenge doesn't really offer you much more in terms of content, but if you are itching for some destruction and haven't played the previous installments, this title is worth a gander, just for the visulas and sound alone. Revenge is sequel to the immensely popular Burnout 3: Takedown, and, as such, had much to live up to. The changes made to core gameplay will anger some fans of the series, but the overall feel is still very Burnout. Smash ‘em up! Drive aggressively! Everybody who picks up the controller loves Burnout. How could you not "get" a game that's about speed, aggressive driving, and spectacular crashed. The only problem with Burnout Revenge is that it literally comes on the heels of last year's Burnout 3 Takedown.

Criterion's decision to literally sell out to Electronic Arts was a bit like seeing your favourite chart-flirting indie band shack up with a royalty-cheque-waving major label. You knew full well that stadium-filling super-stardom was just around the corner, and that the clever hooks and licks would be commodified into something more palatable and acceptable to the masses. You wearily accepted that your cool, best-kept secret was somehow never going to be the same again, although you knew deep down that they deserved the plaudits. And the cash.

The game conveys a better sense of speed than ever before, they've added "checking" – literally slamming your car into innocent commuters rear ends to send them ping-ponging, or more accurately, pinballing in front of you. You can even take down a rival with a cleverly checked car. Many tracks now have shortcuts and the game is gigantic. If you tried the demo and sniffed, feeling it was too easy for you, know this: the game has a gentle difficulty ramp up but is large enough to challenge even experienced players. Even better, the low difficulty at first makes this a great game to start with or for kids. Even better, the tremendous speed, intense action and... did I mention the spectacular crashes? There are spectacular crashes you know. Anyway, all of this makes the game irresistible to everyone in the family, gamer or not, unless you're dealing with a real stick in the mud.

When it came out last September on the Xbox, we can't deny our initial reaction to Burnout Revenge was one of slightly muted disappointment, and looking back it's easy to see why. This beloved series has become one of our all-time favourites, so to see Criterion shamelessly pandering to the mainstream left us with a feeling of resigned disappointment. It was - in the main - way too easy to blitz through the game, the new traffic checking system felt like one idea too many, and the online implementation was still not quite there.

Burnout: Revenge is hardly a vast leap forward for the series, but it’s not a simple graphical improvement with a minor gameplay upgrade thrown in either. The true test for this series will be whether EA demands that Criterion come out with yet another one soon, and if so, what sort of changes will be made. Only then will we know if Burnout has been Maddenized.

Still, there shouldn't need to be a gap between players. A truly great game should appeal to everyone, and Burnout Revenge has trouble with this. Given the sales numbers of this series, it's hard to believe there are enough people out there to justify this release. While it may seem narrow-minded to focus on the price point instead of the gameplay, in this case, it's critical. Yes, this is one of the best racing games ever made (and deserving of every award it garnered), but you can play it for $30 less and not miss much of anything.
