Home Computing Weekly (Jul 02, 1985)
If you like slick, high action zapping games, you'll love this. It's a real corker even if it's a little pricey.
Zzap! (Jul, 1985)
Any shmup fan who doesn't have this game as pride of place in his software collection either a total wimp or needs undergo psychiatric treatment now!
Eurogamer.net (UK) (Nov 05, 2007)
Although not as flashy, brash or complex as many other shooters, Dropzone delivers exactly what it says on the tin and achieved a whopping 95% score in Zzap!64 magazine in the process. This is surely the best home version of Jarvis' legendary arcade with a few extra knobs for good measure, and is every Defender fan's dream come true.
Your 64 (Aug, 1985)
From the dank cell where the cruel overseers had cast the noble Action Replay reviewers came the anguished cry - "Oh Gawd", another Defender clone?" And this one's even got a Jet Pac sprite in it! But escape was futile so the poor unfortunate resigned himself to his fate. Forty-five minutes later, he was hooked.

The scrolling is smoooth with no annoying jerkiness or flicker: although Defender characters must be small the definition could have improved had dark blue been avoided. This is a neat, hectic entertainment package. Classic blasting.
Commodore Force (Mar, 1993)
[Shoot 'em up round-up] Here's the grandad of the collection - believe it or not, it's over seven years old! Surprisingly it retains all it's playability, looking like a cross between Jet Pac and Defender. Nostalgia freaks will be flipped out of their box!
Happy Computer (Aug, 1985)
