The current skateboarding revival has prompted the release of several skating programs, with the latest addition being Electronic Arts' unusual-sounding Skate or Die.
In this simulation, the player practices or competes in five different events against up to seven other players, or one of three computer opponents.
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
But I reckon that if you're a skateboarder and not a coin-op player - there must be a few of you around - you're going to find the Skate or Die is a more accurate representation of your sport. Graphics, sound and animation are excellent - although the whole thing is let you'll get your first glimpse of Rodney, the ageing punk owner of the shop - what a state to be in!
ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
There are some stunning graphics and animation on show in Skate or Die: you really get a sense of the skateboarding life as the character you control jiggles around to stay on board. The action's accompanied by an enjoyable tune with some nice effects. You don't have to be Brain of Britain to compete... but who cares when it's such fun.
All Game Guide
Overall Skate or Die features enough events and options to entertain most players. Little things like tracking high scores, different board colors, and the ability to skate downhill regular or goofy foot are all welcome additions. Although more events, or at least longer ones, would have been nice I really cannot complain. Despite a few flaws Skate or Die is the best skateboarding game you will find on the Commodore 64.
