Star Ranger is a more space based version of Scramble

The Good
The graphics was neatly detailed. The ship sprites, and asteroids, the alien base and the space backdrops.

The Bad
Given the sound capabilities of the Commodore 64 they could have included music.

The Bottom Line
You start the game off at your base (between to hexagons). Your goal is to make it through each stage to the aliens home base. Each stage has a different type of enemy that reacts and flies differently. There is also an asteroid stage. You are not able to destroy the asteroids you are only able to navigate them. The scrolling background is filled with stars, comets, planets and other astronomical bodies. You finally approach the Alien Base The Alien base is a series of tunnels and then finally what looks like the embedded alien city deep within the caverns. It would appear that all of the structures are protected by a deflector. If you try to destroy anything it bounces your laser right back at you. In the end there is nothing really to shoot, I found this very odd. You end up at the same type of base you started at. Perhaps it's not an Alien homeworld after all?? Maybe you are trying to make it home?? Ah the mysteries of neat old games that had no real instructions or storylines to speak of.....
