There are loads of enemy soldiers, gun emplacements and vehicles to blow up, and there are the obligatory giant end-of-level vehicles to overcome. Anyone who enjoys a good shoot 'em up should love this - check it out as soon as possible...
If a rotary control were available for the Genesis, it would have improved this cart greatly.
GenesisAll Game Guide (1999)
Caliber .50 offers two control configurations, and I'm not crazy about either one of them. Regardless of the mode of play, every time you release the fire button, you automatically throw a grenade. Not only does this waste grenades, it is awkward. This controller conundrum doesn't totally ruin the game for me, but it does take some getting used to.
While any gamer can applaud the designers for trying something different, the end result just doesn't add up to a great game. All that innovation was wasted on a mediocre product. There's very little to like, but if you enjoy unique challenges, then there's a chance you might make a connection here.

At the end of the day, Caliber .50 is an also-ran in the race for Genesis run-'n-gun dominance. Its slow and uninspired gameplay, archaic presentation, and complete lack of fun send it back to its dusty corner of my game shelf for what's bound to be a long time. Want to blow things up? Then there are at least a dozen better ways for you to get your testosterone pumping.
