Some glitches keep the game from being technically perfect (a floating apple and character bodies passing through walls comes to mind), but none of them mar the overall experience. WWII videogames dominate the retail space, but Call of Duty 3 beats them into submission, sits atop its shooter's throne, and demands respect. Bravo Activision!

If you’ve got yourself one of those newfangled Playstation 3s, andyou’re looking for a good few hours of single player fun pick up Callof Duty 3, it’s well worth your time, especially if you have a networkof other PS3 fellows to go with it.

As much as Call of Duty 2 defined the Xbox 360 as a launch title, you simply can’t imagine what Treyarch has done with the franchise until you see it in action. They have really mastered the technical horsepower of the 360 and advanced the series in every single way. The action is unbelievably intense and the historical material is researched and presented in a way that borders on being educational.

Call of Duty 3 is in the uncomfortable situation of innovating and adding new features while being similar enough to previous games to please loyal fans. Call of Duty 2’s best features—the action-packed gameplay, the multiplayer and presentation—have all been improved in the sequel. Although the singleplayer campaign only lasts for 8 hours or so, this is a game that you will probably want to replay in the different difficulty setting and play for countless hours online. The PS3 version of the game is just as impressive as the Xbox 360 version and while it doesn’t have split-screen multiplayer, it makes up for this with the Sixaxis functionality.

Fans of WWII shooters have yet another great game to sink their teeth into. Featuring improved multiplayer and spiffed-up graphics, Call of Duty 3 is arguably the best game in the series to date. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Call of Duty 3 on current-generation is an amazing port of the Xbox 360 game. Treyarch put in a lot of work to make this one of the most technically impressive games on both the Xbox and PlayStation 2. The Xbox 360 version still has larger levels, more characters onscreen, and significantly better graphics but the current-generation versions are no slouch. This is a markedly better game than Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and the finest World War II gameplay on the current-generation consoles.

Call of Duty 3 is a great showcase for the Wii’s unique control scheme. While the Wii controls work with other games, of the games we’ve played so far, Call of Duty 3 is the one that most benefits from the motion sensing controls. Treyarch put in a lot of work to make this version of the game comparable to the other next-gen versions in content. Because this version doesn’t have multiplayer, you may consider picking up the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions as well as this one, but even if this is your only purchase, you’re getting a great deal.

The best thing I can say about Call of Duty 3 is that after playing I actually felt like I had been through a war. There were moments when I would catch myself physically ducking or leaning my body as I tried to look around a corner. I started to appreciate the men in my unit and a sense of loss when somebody was lost. Signing up and going off to war might not be for everybody, but playing this game will certainly make you respect those who did and those who still do.

As it stands today, though, Call of Duty 3 represents the state-of-the-art in Cinematic war simulations. If you don’t have the lucre to move up to an Xbox 360, you will be able to add another years life to your legacy Xbox with CoD3 while not giving up all that much in the game experience. Much like HDTV, however, you would find it very difficult to move back down to the lower resolution alternative. With that caveat, I believe Call of Duty 3 belongs on every Xbox owner’s wish list for the imminent holiday season.

All in all, epic or not, this game is a must play for 360 owners. Now if only they could combine what I liked about both games and give me a Call of Duty 23 release, I'd be pleased as punch.

Call of Duty 2 was always going to be a tough act to follow because it was just such an impressive game. For the most part Call of Duty 3 has succeeded. The single-player campaign whilst short is actually very enjoyable despite not having much in the way of a storyline. Those who enjoyed Call of Duty 2 when playing online will certainly appreciate being able to have three times the amount of players in a game as well as being able to have four players on one console. In short it’s another great game in the Call of Duty series and another fine addition to the Xbox 360’s FPS genre.

As the highest-profile title from the 360’s launch, Call of Duty 2 certainly found its way into countless gamer’s homes last November. It was a terrific gameplay experience that was slightly marred by some major lag issues online (initially). Call of Duty 3 is a similar beast in some ways, but things have changed a bit. This time around, the single-player is a bit on the weak side, but the online play shines. If the patch truly does fix the matchfinding process, COD3 will easily be one of the best games on Live. The single-player may only be worth one or two playthroughs, but I can see many gamers getting countless hours battling the Nazis online.

Call Of Duty 3 is a good sequel and the best Call of Duty experience yet. What hurts the game though is that it plays a lot like previous COD games, to the point that it is very noticeable, but not altogether a bad thing. The graphics and guns also don’t show off like the more impressive titles do. But the real question is, is this game worth buying? I would say if FPS are your thing, then yes, get this title. The new take on the missions, and the new multiplayer are enough to keep hardcore fans happy. But even if you aren’t a FPS die-hard, and just want an exhilarating experience, then COD3 can provide that too.

While not as breathtaking as the next-generation version of the game, Call of Duty 3 for the original Xbox will still not fail to impress with its great visuals, intense action and great multiplayer mode. While World War II shooters are a dime a dozen these days, this third entry in the Call of Duty series for the Xbox is an entertaining ride well worth taking.

When we received the Xbox version of COD3 we were told that it is “content identical” to the 360 build of the game which we reviewed here. Having just witnessed the spectacle of a great looking second generation 360 game, we were suspicious of the claim. However Treyarch has managed to keep the two versions of the game surprisingly close. This is a great example of just how far the Xbox is being pushed in the twilight of its life cycle.

I was recently asked by a Japanese game developer why first-person shooters are so popular in America. Don't we get bored of doing the same thing over and over? At the time I was at a loss for an explanation, but after playing Call of Duty 3 I can answer that question. We don't mind playing scores of shooters because month after month we're presented with games in the genre that up the ante in terms of presentation, mechanics, and overall quality. For example, only a year after COD made the jump to high definition on consoles, developer Treyarch has taken the reigns from Infinity Ward and added enough to the successful Call of Duty formula that we were happy to once again join the battle for the free world.

With the 65th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor just passing, the release of Call of Duty 3 would feel appropriate...if not for the fact that a new installment in the franchise gets released each year. I would suggest to Activision that they need to give the series a break, even though Call of Duty 3 is a fantastic entry into the series. With 32 player online multi-player, split-screen offline multi-player and system link, as well as a relatively long single-player, this is one of the few next-gen games that can be justified for the $60 price tag. If you need a second choice shooter after Gears of War on Xbox 360 or Resistance on PS3, Call of Duty 3 should be your pick.

World War II shooters have been done to death, but somehow Call of Duty keeps coming back and making us say otherwise. The single player campaign lasts a solid ten hours and has plenty to offer if you play through on the more challenging difficulties, but the heart of this game lies within the multiplayer. The problems in last year’s release have been dealt with, so now we’re left with an online component that should keep any gamer busy for at least another year. Although it doesn’t compare to Gears of War in terms of innovation, fans out there yearning for another Call of Duty will not be disappointed.

The bottom line here is that Call of Duty 3 looks superb, its action is flowing, its detailing is immense, and its authenticity unmatched, but conversely it provides worthless gameplay extras where extras are simply not necessary, and it detracts from established and proven foundations through occasionally sloppy delivery - in its core single-player element. Surpassing the success of Call of Duty 2 was never going to be easy, but in order for Treyarch to leave a lasting mark on the series, it needed to rely wholeheartedly on proven structural facets and then build convincingly in its own way. As it is, Treyarch has shot wide of the mark on both of those targets in crafting a piece of heart-pounding but flawed entertainment.

Call of Duty 3 isn't finished as detailed as its predecessor and brings, next to a strongly improved multiplayer, little news compared to number 2. What you do get tons of is very intense, varied and exciting action which will keep you busy for quite a few hours. A recommendation for the fans but we expect a bigger leap forward from Infinity Ward when we put the next Call of Duty in our console or PC. This sequel offers more of the same and in the end that's only just enough to convince us. For one last time that is!

Xbox 360Worth Playing
Call of Duty 3 may not be the impact title that its predecessor was, but it succeeds on its own as a strong expansion of an existing favorite. Other than a number of glitches and a currently unresolved online issue, the game delivers the same kind of intense experience that made the series a true next-gen contender. Some might dispute the titling of the game, considering the change of developer and lack of truly innovative gameplay, and I don't know that I could put up a strong argument to the contrary. However, though it may be remarkably similar to last year's model, Call of Duty 3 is a fine purchase for next-gen shooter fans.

Call of Duty 3 is an immersive game, perhaps the single player is not quite as intense and well thought out as Call of Duty 2’s was, but it is an excellent game in its own right – combine that with the fantastic multiplayer offering then Call of Duty 3 is a must buy for anyone who likes the World War II setting and first person shooter combat. If you have an Xbox Live Gold membership then the online multiplayer alone will keep you hooked for many more months to come.

Xbox 360Game Over Online
In the end, I still feel as though Call of Duty 2 offered a superior singleplayer experience to Call of Duty 3. The later relies too much on the numbers game, particularly with the use of German respawns, and while the result is a more action-packed experience, the battles simply aren't as memorable. That's not to say the singleplayer campaign isn't exciting, it is, and with the new enhancements and a more fleshed out multiplayer component, you could argue that Call of Duty 3 is a more complete game than Call of Duty 2 was. Debates aside, one thing is clear, Call of Duty 3 is a WWII shooter well worth enlisting in.

Call of Duty 2 was a cinematic flash grenade to the senses and was one of the best releases titles on the Xbox 360 last year, so does Call of Duty 3 really have to improve much on this formula? The answer is while the game polishes many of the minor problems that nagged its predecessor as well as expand on what it did so well, COD3 also comes with a few new problems of its own.

Call of Duty 3 really is a kick-ass game on the Playstation 2, and includes all the components of the XBox 360 and PS3 versions, albeit with reduced visual quality. This is quite possibly the last in the series we'll see on current generation hardware, but if you're not planning on upgrading soon there's no excuse not to get Call of Duty 3 on the PS2. Activision continue to milk more power out of the system with every new title, and the overall result is one of the best First Person Shooters on the system since its release. If you like this genre then there is really no reason to ignore this game. Fantastic.

Call of Duty 3 is a fine addition to the PlayStation 3's catalogue and I'm sure FPS fans will appreciate having a Call of Duty title available so early in the console's lifespan. Having now looked at three versions of Call of Duty 3 it's fair to say that the PlayStation 3 version is second best to the Xbox 360 version thanks to the slightly poorer multiplayer experience and the frame rate that just isn't as consistent as it is on the 360 version. The problems are minor however, and the game not only looks great but is enjoyable to play. Fans of World War II FPS games will definitely enjoy what Call of Duty 3 has to offer.

PlayStation 3Kombo.com
In Call of Duty 3 developers Treyarch (Call of Duty 2: Big Red One) do a very good job of capturing an authentic WWII feel. You will see shots coming at you from every angle at times, making completing your objectives feel more frantic. Enemies take aim from windows and from behind cover. At times you will feel truly immersed in warfare. Other times you will often find yourself yanked back into the real world when Call of Duty’s few slight missteps and bugs pop up. Call of Duty rounds out the PS3 launch lineup well, and offers a more realistic first person shooter experience in comparison to the preeminent PS3 shooter: Resistance: Fall of Man. Considering the lack of key options and the number of glitches, Call of Duty 3 still stands out amongst console first person shooters overall, and the solid multiplayer options even without voice support will give the title life for a long after you complete the single player campaign.

Call of Duty 3 is a great FPS, fantastic graphics and sound combined with being easy, intuitive game-play leads to a fulfilling experience. The story is good enough to keep you interested and as FPS games go it's quite lengthy, but like most of the genre the single-player lifespan isn't the greatest. Throw in a robust and team-driven online multi-player though, and the game offers a much more long-term appeal.
85
Xbox 360ActionTrip
All in all, I think Call of Duty 3 is a great play. It is not the best 360 game or even the best FPS on the 360 (Gears of War owns that title), but if you want a game with a worthwhile single-player campaign and a great multiplayer component (games with 4-player split-screen rock), then you cannot go wrong picking up this game.

While Electronic Arts hunkers down for the next installment in the long-running Medal of Honor series, Activision has been owning the next-generation first-person shooter space with Call of Duty. Last year, Call of Duty 2 was the most popular title played via Xbox Live and became one of the first Xbox 360 games to sell a million units. It's unsurprising that Activision would pursue a third course in the hopes of repeating its success. There's no avoiding the fact that Call of Duty 3 brings little new to the table; however, it succeeds in how well it mixes up gameplay by means of a stunning presentation.

Call of Duty 3’s single-player campaign clocks in at a standard 8-12 hours, which is a solid length for this type of game. There is enough depth with the added vehicles, diverse environments, and wide variety of mission objectives, and despite the repetitiveness of that AI, it’s still darn effective. You’ve got those glitches that are a bit too significant and you might not find anything all that innovative here, but all in all, the game is an excellent FPS. There’s really nothing major to complain about, and if you can’t have fun with this one, you’ve either finally grown sick of the WWII shooter, or you’re simply not a fan of the genre.

From landing to conquering, the COD3 experience is a great one, and we’d suggest any fan of the series or even of the genre to check it out. The visuals are mind-blowing and the sound is simply incredible, especially with the score it has. The gameplay hasn’t changed much and may get dry for those who are hardcore followers to the series, but veteran mode will be a sure bet to blow blood-vessels for any player. The additions to the multiplayer scene add replay value but you may want to borrow or rent a copy first to see if you have any connection problems. COD3 is a keeper, and definitely worth a look.

While Resistance: Fall of Man will enjoy the lions share of marketing and publicity this November, shooter fans would be doing themselves a disservice by not picking up Activision’s latest offering. Top notch graphics, immersive game play and sound all add up to another solid, but not revolutionary first person shooter.

Ultimately, the decision of which Call of Duty version to buy is going to come down to a matter of taste. If gamers have the option of purchasing the gorgeous 360 and PS3 versions over the Wii version, there’s certainly a good argument for the value of improved visuals and presentation. However, Call of Duty 3 on the Wii is one of the best examples of the system’s ability to make up for substandard visuals with really engaging control. The Wiimote is a fluid and, mostly, precise method of directing all of the carnage, and there’s no denying the fact that pointing and shooting is infinitely more fun than weaving around with two analog sticks.

Call of Duty 3 is obviously the child of Call of Duty 2. It carries with it some of the best aspects of Call of Duty 2, and adds some new gameplay elements to the series. On the downside, it also brings with it some occasionally braindead AI, and is still a very linear game. If you are a Call of Duty fan, you know what to expect out of the single player game. Any way you slice it, Call of Duty 3 is a pretty good game, even if the time and place are a bit overdrawn.

Call of Duty 3's action is fast-paced, and the sound effects and music are some of the best in any game this year. Treyarch did a fine job of bringing all of the great action of the PS3 and 360 versions onto the significantly less powerful Xbox and PS2. Thanks to slightly better graphics and smoother online play, the Xbox version is preferable over the PlayStation 2 version, but even with some technical issues, the game is still great on the PS2. If the Call of Duty series hasn't won you over previously, Call of Duty 3 isn't going to do much to change your mind. But for anyone else, Call of Duty 3 is a must-own.

With only a 12 month development time Call of Duty’s third incarnation does not have the same sheen that made its predecessor such as successful 360 launch title. Also the main campaign probably won’t be as memorable as that of COD2 as it does not contain as many stand out “wow” moments. Regardless the game still offers enough small changes and little extras in both single and multiplayer to entice fans of the series back for yet another fight against the odds. However it should be noted that if Ubisoft’s Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and EA's Medal of Honor: Airborne Assault had not suffered delays and WWII shooters once again filled store shelves COD3 may not look as tempting as it does now.

Not only does the PS3 version of Call of Duty 3 have all the flaws of the Xbox 360 games, it also manages to add a few that are unique to itself. The colours seem a little more faded, gameplay bugs seem more frequent and the multi-player options aren't as satisfying as on Xbox Live with the lack of voice systems (it's just not the same when you can't shout at someone). Fortunately, such is the ferocity of the action that many of these faults will be forgotten when you're pounding the Hun from the seat of a Polish tank. Just remember that, for all its emotive plus points, its far from faultless.

Call of Duty 3 is a near masterpiece for the Playstation 2. If you're still behind the generation leap, this game needs to be on your radar. It provides fantastic visuals that has few rivals on the PS2. The sound and music of the game are top notch. The realism and grittiness of the game pull you right in and completely immerse you in the battle. I can't sing enough praise for how this title snuck up me, but sadly it did have to end. Also, if you have Call of Duty 3 for another console there is no reason to get this one. Nor is there any reason to get it if you want something different from the traditional Call of Duty formula. But if you are looking for an excellent WWII FPS game on the Playstation 2, put this is at the top of your list.

World War II may have ended in 1945, but that hasn't stopped the axis and allies from waging war against one another on the video game front. And now there's a new battleground--the PlayStation 3. With Call of Duty 2 developer Infinity Ward having moved on to other projects, the series has been placed in the hands of Treyarch, the developer behind Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. It did not disappoint. Call of Duty 3 on the PlayStation 3 is a great game with thoroughly enjoyable multiplayer, quality presentation, and some mildly-interesting tilt-control support. It is missing a couple of features that its Xbox 360 counterpart contains, and the frame rate is far less reliable in this version, but the overall intensity and playability of Call of Duty 3 remains intact, despite these few issues.

Overall COD3 for the PS3 isn’t that bad of a game. On the positive side of things the visuals are pretty solid, the sound is stellar and the gameplay is pretty good. However, on the other side of the coin are a few graphical hiccups and anomalies followed by a few gameplay bugs that manage to make the PS3 version slightly less then its 360 counterpart. If you own a 360, you’d most likely be better off playing that version if you haven’t done so yet. However should you only own a PS3, you will still enjoy this game as it has a lot of good points to it.

Call of Duty 3 is easily the best in the series (or at least a tie with COD2) but the PS3 conversion just doesn’t do it justice. If this is the only next-gen system you have then you should go ahead and play it, but if you own a 360 you’ll have a much better experience, both solo and online.

That's a good thing, for as much as I dug all that scripting, and the game did move beyond the usual dug-in, burned-out, rubble-filled cities of previous games, it all still feels a little too familiar. Solid, yes, but familiar. I mean no disrespect for the men that died protecting freedom, but considering I was born a good 30 years after the war ended, familiarity with this setting probably isn't a good thing.

But if you've never played a COD game on the 360 then I suggest saving yourself the cash and buying COD2 first.

Call of Duty 3 is one of the Xbox 360's better games but at the same time it does have a few cracks starting to appear. The storyline and atmosphere keep the game from getting old but those who want something new probably won't find too much of it here. The franchise will no doubt continue but hopefully this is the swansong for the game without major changes otherwise it could lose its untouchable status.

Call of Duty 3 ist interaktives Popcorn-Kino in Reinkultur.

It would be easy to pick holes in Call of Duty 3 but, bar a few unfortunate technical problems, they really don't matter. It might be a predominantly linear path shooter, but who cares? When the atmosphere and level of action on offer is this great, the fact that I can't wander off to see what's behind a tree half a mile to the East really doesn't bother me. I can certainly live without poor WWII first-person shooters, but when they're as much fun to play as Call of Duty 3, I'd happily play them year after year.

While I have mixed feelings about WWII games I have become a fan of the Call of Duty franchise. It handles the war with the correct amount of weight and presents a realistic enough atmosphere that it could almost be a first person documentary. There are a few dings in the PS3 versions' flak jacket though and this isn't an entirely smooth ride. The SIXAXIS control is kind of silly, there are many glitches online, and the framerate drops for practically no reason sometimes. If you can overlook those flaws (and don't have a 360) then this is a game definitely worth your time. It's a solid action experience all the way through.

As I mentioned earlier, this is essentially the same as the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Call of Duty 3, with lots of missions to keep you busy for more than 10 hours. The replay value is what really suffers here, as it's a very linear game, and it has no multiplayer. You play it once and set it on the shelf and maybe play it again after Call of Duty 4 comes out. The controls feel very natural, and I, being a PC gamer, like using the Wii controls more than standard dual joystick configurations (next to WAS and D, of course), as it provides ease of fast turns and adjustments, as well as pefectly accurate shots when you line up the sights. Call of Duty 3 is the first real, working, fun to play FPS for the Wii. I'm looking forward to see where developers can take FPS' on the Wii.

And with that said, to sum up Call of Duty 3 would be to say it's a mixed bag. The single player game, on the one hand, feels rushed, with bugs all over the place, ropey AI and cut scenes that can't be skipped; on the other hand, it offers some lovely missions and action. Multiplayer is Call of Duty 3's saving grace. Lag-free (24 player) online games, classes and some good (although large) maps with vehicles makes Call of Duty 3 a worthy purchase after all.

Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 is a great launch title for the system and not just "the shooter other than Resistance." It has a good, fast-paced single player campaign and hearty helpings of multiplayer. There are a few little technical issues both with the mechanics and graphics of this title, but it's certainly nothing that should keep you from playing it.

As for choosing the Wii version as opposed to the current or other next generation consoles, that depends entirely on your love for multi-player gaming and willingness to adjust to the control scheme. While it may lack the crispness and shine present on other platforms, it is easily as immersive when it comes together. A few moments of frustration should not deter a new Wii owner from picking this one up.

It’s really not all disastrous though, Call of Duty 3 is a fine game, and even with the problems highlighted the single player will still offer you at least 8 hours of solid entertainment, and even if the online mode never works properly it’s definitely worth checking out, as it’s superb to look at and the few games I did manage to play were highly enjoyable. Just take into account that whilst playing through it, CoD3 will most likely piss you off a fair few times, and you may well want to lob an Xbox 360-shaped grenade out the window.

Much has been made of the Wii remote and its suitability for FPS games so it’s very interesting to get an immediate feel for how good the console will be for FPS games. If Call of Duty 3 is anything to go by there’s definitely potential here for the console to play host to some great FPS titles. Call of Duty 3 plays quite well with the new control system, although it’s obvious that the game wasn’t originally designed with the Wii in mind. Some of the controls could have been better (having the d-pad for the grenades isn’t exactly comfortable) and if the Wii is going to be a popular console for FPS games then the controls are going to have to be spot on especially as the console is nowhere near an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or a half-decent PC in terms of graphical quality. Still Call of Duty 3 is currently one of the best games on the Wii and if you’re a fan of FPS games it’s definitely the best option so far.

Call of Duty 3 is, even without multiplayer, undoubtedly a better game than Red Steel mostly thanks to its greatly superior controls, more varied gameplay, better AI and constantly more intense action from start to finish. Call of Duty 3 on the Wii obviously had to take the route of gameplay over graphics, and it succeeded with first-person shooter controls unlike any other console game. However, the exclusion of multiplayer was a major blow and will affect the decision of buyers who are on the fence about whether or not to purchase this title. If you want a solid single-player experience and a chance to feel the best Wii FPS controls before Metroid releases, pick up Call of Duty 3.

Fans of Call of Duty 2 and the series in general will no doubt enjoy Call of Duty 3 (if they don't have access to another platform). It recreates the fury of World War II with a strong bravado and offers a shooting engine that makes single-player and multiplayer sessions equally fun. Sure it comes up a little short compared to the pacing and overall level design of COD2, but the real crime here is found with all the glitches and other technical problems that make the Normandy Breakout feel more like the Normandy Lockup. It's really too bad, because considering how good it is despite all of its problems, imagine how great it could have been without them.

Call of Duty 3 is neither revolutionary or even remarkable when viewed as part of its franchise, but for fans of WW2 action or first-person shooters, there's a lot to love here, particularly in multiplayer. Offline or singleplayers fare less well thanks to the short and simple campaign which lacks co-operative options, but it's a sweet, graphically impressive ride while it lasts. Treyarch's look and sound is superb, and they really know how to evoke the feel of gritty warfare – even without showing blood. But both the singleplayer and multiplayer experience is marred by a bevy of bugs, glitches, dodgy A.I. and problematic physics that really detract from the polish of the package.

Call of Duty 3 for Wii is a bit of a mixed bag. For starters, the game’s control is pretty solid, and while there are a few issues with the battle actions, the pin-point aiming and Call of Duty driving feels great, adding a ton of immersion in to the game. If the gameplay isn’t your primary focus for FPS games though, Call of Duty 3 may be a bit of a downer, as there’s no multiplayer, and the visuals are pretty weak. If you’re expecting anything more than a solid single player adventure and GCN/Xbox graphics, you may be disappointed. Still, Call of Duty 3’s control is definitely something to experience, and seems to be second only to Metroid. If you’re looking to try the FPS genre on Wii during launch, Call of Duty 3 is the game to show the system off.

Since Red Steel failed to adequately sell the concept of Wii first-person shooters, gamers are probably looking elsewhere for hope. Call of Duty 3 certainly features better controls than Ubisoft’s disappointment, but it’s a hard sell considering that the 360 version is noticeably superior. Call of Duty 3 is still a good game on the Wii, but I honestly can’t recommend this over the 360 version. This game works just fine with the standard dual-analog setup, and motion control doesn’t make up for the lack of online play.

This version of Call of Duty 3 has all of the action you’ve come to expect from the series and therefore is a pretty sound choice for those who want to experience it on their new Wii system. If you’re willing to invest the time in adopting an entirely new (and at times cumbersome) control scheme, CoD3 can be rewarding. The Wii-mote setup does take some time to adjust to and feels great in terms of aiming and movement, but loses points for some unavoidable fumbling which can occur at the most inopportune times. The lack of online play hurts, but of course its absence only affects those who would play online in the first place. If you’re a single player gamer all the way, it won’t matter. Just understand that you’ll be trading “feel” for visuals if you make the choice to purchase the Wii version over the X360 or PS3.

The best thing I can say about Call of Duty 3 on the Wii is that after playing I actually felt like I had been through a war, both emotionally and physically. The designers made good use of the new control scheme to really immerse you in the action. Sure, it seems gimmicky at times, but that doesn't mean it's still not fun. There were moments when I would catch myself physically ducking or leaning my body as I tried to look around a corner. I started to appreciate the men in my unit and a sense of loss when somebody died. Signing up and going off to war might not be for everybody, but playing this game will certainly make you respect those who did and those who still do.

Hand on heart, if you had a 360 and a Wii in your house and this game on both, you'd probably complete the game on 360. It's not just that the environments look pretty vile on Wii - water becomes a grey slab, or vanishes entirely - it's that the animations have been cut down so much that people you've shot practically disappear. And there's no multiplayer here at all. But if you don't have another console, this is actually pretty neat stuff and well worth a look. Plus, it's a total triumph that the all-new control scheme evident here is this intuitive. Just think back to how clownishly inept using mouse-look for the first time on Quake made you, or the dizzying horror of trying to use a stick to look on console for the first time: the fact that Treyarch has, from a standing start, freed up our second stick and put the gun in our hands for the first time, is pretty good going. All we need now is a shooter built from the ground up for Wii and then we'll really be motoring.

Each time you die, you'll get the chance to see some of the most famous war-related quotes of important men like Winston Churchill, Napoleon or Sun Tzu. The game seemed difficult at first, especially due to the annoying analog control and the camera angles, but it got easier as I progressed. All that dying in the beginning got my friends thinking that I wanted to get killed in order to see those wise quotes. Call of Duty 3 is not a bad game, but it's not a great historic shooter either. The graphics kill the superb atmosphere and with the new Medal of Honor on its way, I would really start trembling if I were the producer.

t's easily the best of the three shooters on the Wii right now in every respect, and leaves the patchy Red Steel in the dust. Call of Duty 3 is virtually guaranteed to be rendered obsolete eventually (even by Activision themselves) but right now it's a decent looking and fun single player experience, an excellent showcase for the Wii's unique controller, and a peek into the future of console FPS controls.

Call of Duty 3 isn't going to switch you over if you have always hated Call of Duty games. In Call of Duty 3 we have more of the cinematic heart pounding action that fans have come to love from the series. Call of Duty 3 keeps a good pace and delivers exactly what I expected. The online portion which is unfortunately not available on the Wii, is a popular online game that should hold the value of the game long after you completed the single player mission. Despite a few bugs that should be patched, online is a lot of fun and rivals the single player side of the game. I know the WWII theme has been done to death over the years, but Call of Duty is one of the best and should be checked out if you own a PS3 or Xbox 360.

Call of Duty 3 could have been more than just another copy of previous installments, but with unnecessary gameplay mechanics, dumb AI, and a forgettable storyline, it brings nothing new in terms of enjoyment. Gorgeous visuals and a great multiplayer simply could not save Call of Duty 3 from being just a different battle in the same tired war.

The previous games were just as guilty of being "rail shooters" as Call of Duty 3 but they managed to successfully throw everything plus the kitchen sink at you to hide that truth. This one tries that same approach but instead comes off as little more than a "me too" clone and this series deserves far better than that. Here’s hoping that Infinity Ward’s eventual return to the saga won’t leave gamers with such a bland and lifeless taste in their mouths.

So what have we learned from Call of Duty 3? It's that this console can hold a very good first person shooter and provide the atmosphere needed for a great war game. The lack of multiplayer really hurts in the long run, but playing a shooter with the Wii-mote is an experience you definitely should have.

Call of Duty 3 isn't a run-and-gun FPS, but it's not as slow-paced as a tactical shooter, either. You'll fight alongside CPU-controlled soldiers, and you'll generally need to stay behind cover, pick off as many soldiers as you can, and then advance to the next safe location. Because there's no health bar in the game, you'll need to watch the screen when you're getting hit. As you get shot, the edges of the screen turn crimson and close in around you the more you get hit. Should you fall victim to a grenade or a bullet and not die, all you have to do is seek shelter to recover your health. Because the game's artificial intelligence initially appears "smarter" than in a typical FPS, it can be frustrating to be unable to clear a particular section because of cheap tricks like how new enemies will spawn to replace fallen soldiers in outdoor levels (they don't do this indoors). But once you come to grips with the fact that you can't kill them all, it shouldn't bother you much.

If you've been paying attention this whole time, you've probably come to the conclusion that Call of Duty 3 is a solid game, and you'd be right. It promises intense WWII single and multiplayer action and delivers on both counts. The multiplayer experience is definitely the highlight here, but the single-player campaign is worth a play through. Yes, there is a collection of minor issues that keeps this game from being four or more stars, but it doesn't skimp on fun, and that's what counts the most.

Overall, Call of Duty 3 delivers a very good single-player experience similar to what was found in Call of Duty 2 and should be considered a safe bet for those who enjoyed the latter. If your interest lies solely with playing multiplayer matches, then I would suggest you hold off for a bit until Treyarch has had a chance to re-address the problems that are plaguing this area of the game. Keeping in mind how well Call of Duty 2 rebounded after correcting it’s terrible multiplayer problems, I see no reason why Call of Duty 3 wouldn’t have the same sort of late-comer Xbox LIVE success when the fix is finally discovered.

A game that feels more like a copy than a continuation of the series, plus the fact that the online never really took off means that it’s only worth a solitary playthrough at best. In the end, Call of Duty 3 is a decent addition to the Call of Duty franchise. Though it is not the best installment in the series by any means. The small graphical and audio quirks to the frustratingly glitched solo campaign prevent this game from truly taking off. If only a little extra time was taken to address these problems with the addition of a little more polish, this game would have instantly been a must have.

Call of Duty 3 reste fidèle à la série. Call of Duty 3’s unique ideas aren’t enough to separate it from the rest of the pack and it doesn’t maintain the incredibly high standards set at the start of the game. In a way, it's only fitting that this Wii debut is a port - even on the 360 COD3 feels more like a companion to the console-only Big Red One rather than a true sequel. But if this was a test of the shooter on Nintendo's new box, it definitely passes. Revisions and experimentation will no doubt improve the experience, but for now those looking to migrate into Nintendo's new way to play won't be fully out of their element.

Strengthened with vehicles and support for up to 24 players, the online multiplayer comes in strong enough to save face for the series, but that pales as compensation for the disappointing single-player game. Call of Duty 2 established itself as the game that, to this day, Xbox 360 owners still put in -- not just to show off their system, but because it makes the whole experience so intense, you want to jump back in and be there again. Even for those who wind up enjoying the online component, Call of Duty 3 will long since have been forgotten a year from now.

Call of Duty 3 was one of the most awaited titles on the PC. However, being a console fan sure has its advantages, as the game became a console-only product, leading the series to a change of perspective. COD 3 had to be a little bit of a guinea pig as it had control problems in its Wii version, camera problems on the PS2 and becoming an experiment on the next-gen PS3 and Xbox 360. There's always a number of titles that get bad or average reviews, just because they surfaced in the era of changes, when the old consoles succumb and the producers are forced to release titles that are playable on the next-gen consoles and on the old ones as well.

COD3 for the Wii is a fun and intense game that is sure to please both novice and experienced gamers who are willing to take a bit of time to become comfortable with the controls. There's a lot of action and the various scenarios keep the gameplay feeling fresh. Unfortunately the graphics are not state of the art, and if you've seen the game on a PS3 or 360, you'll be disappointed when you pop this disc into your Wii. The lack of multiplayer capability is also a big minus. Even with these defects though, the single player campaign is well worth playing through. With this review, I won't mince words: If you've played Call of Duty 2, you absolutely do not need to play this game at all, and you probably shouldn't, especially on the PS3. Call of Duty 3 really feels like last year all over again, and aside from a few gimmicky controller tweaks, the gameplay is exactly as you'd find it on the more solid Xbox 360 version. Call of Duty 3 is a very solid first-person shooter; a worthy successor to the last year’s surprise console hit. While it lacks the polish we’ve come to expect from original developer Infinity Ward, it’s still a fun, if dangerously familiar campaign through 1940’s Europe. It’s just doesn’t offer anything unique or new to the genre.

Call of Duty 3 for the Wii is an interesting but flawed game. The control is neat and the single-player campaign is solid, but I've come to expect more for fifty dollars. The lack of multiplayer is a real bummer, and the last-gen visuals are hard to get excited over, too. The Wii version of Call of Duty 3 could be a good buy if you've got to play it and lack the other consoles, but most people would be better served by springing for the superior-looking, online-enabled Xbox 360 version instead. The lack of long-term play potential makes this one more of a rental.

If you're trying to decide which system to get Call of Duty 3 on, I strongly urge you to pick up the Xbox 360 version. It's more polished, better-looking, runs better, and offers a superior online experience thanks to voice support and more servers and players. The PS3 version is still fun, but the experience is dulled by noticeable slowdown and muddier graphics. The same bugs from the Xbox 360 version are present, as is the same overall lack of polish. Yes, the game still has some intense moments, and yes, it does "feel" like a Call of Duty game. It's just not the best version of this title that's available.

I want to make it clear though, that the game is by no means unplayable. The controls are more than tolerable, if somewhat unwieldy, and I do recognize that my own displeasure is in large part a matter of taste. I also think that FPS controls will improve in the foreseeable future, but some of those improvements are going to have to come from Nintendo's end, rather than the developers'. Calibration is a big issue for me, and I remain dumbfounded that I can only choose "sensor on top" or "sensor on bottom" to configure my controller. I doubt it would be too terribly difficult to add the standard "top left/bottom right" calibration tool to the Wii's arsenal, and I think it would make a whole world of difference in the long run. For the time being, however, do yourself a favor and pick up CoD 3 for the 360 or PS3.

And that's your lot for Call of Duty 3 on the Wii. There's no multiplayer functionality at all, so an impressive single-player campaign was vital, but numerous control issues make the experience far less enjoyable than it is on other platforms. Despite some visual shortcomings, the atmosphere created in the game is still impressive, but unless you really must own another FPS for your Wii, you'd be better off experiencing the action elsewhere.

While the mini-games are cool, you will sadly spend most of your time fighting to control your drunken gun sight, and practice only yields marginal improvements. You have to hand it to Treyarch for having the guts to take chances, but as far as CoD3 goes, this isn't the version to play unless you're flying Wii-only, and even then, it's only worth it to get a glimpse of what the future might hold.

WiiEurogamer.net (UK)
However, in the final analysis, I can't really bring myself to intensely dislike COD3. The control system isn't much fun, and feels unfinished and somewhat unloved - but it is certainly possible to get to grips with it and to eke some enjoyment out of the superbly designed levels of the game. Even while battling against the limitations of the Wii port of the game, the fact that this is, at heart, one of the finest WWII games around still comes shining through from time to time, and that lifts the game from the doldrums of negativity to the point of being merely disappointingly average. This, we hope, is not the shape of things to come on the Wii, and the existence of games like Metroid, which demonstrate FPS gameplay working superbly on the console, is a beacon of hope for the genre - but right now, if you fancy shooting your way through the hedgerows of northern France, pick up the excellent versions of this game on other platforms, and give the Wii version a miss.

Call of Duty 3 for the Wii is mainly interesting because it’s a first person shooter that uses the Wiimote. It’s silly, fast and kind of fun, but it also features murky graphics and very little play value. So if you’re looking for a game that makes you feel like Weird Al in a muscle suit, or just want to see how well the Wii handles first person shooting, give this unintentional comedy a rental. If you must play Call of Duty 3, do it on one of the other consoles. Both the 360 and PS3 versions aren’t the greatest first-person shooters ever made, but they’re decent enough to satiate your apparently endless need to keep fighting the same war over and over and over again. Don’t bother with this game on the Wii, though. The developers made a valiant effort at a unique control scheme that just doesn’t work.

We’ll try to make this as blunt as possible to send a message out there that this kind of lazy rubbish won’t go without criticism simply because it has the Wiimote shoehorned in. This game is torture to play with the Wiimote, looks pathetic and lacks even stripped down versions of features that other platforms have. We know there is a good game underneath all of this, it’s just a pity we need to boot up the 360 to play it.
