Itis not perfect, but itis damn close and multiplayer is as fun as it comes. Despite being blown away more than 1,000 times in a few weeks and the single player plot line lasting only a few hours, Call of Duty 4 does an amazing job in terms of single and multiplayer game play as well as story telling, which provides some powerful shocks along the way. With that in mind, itis time to head back to multiplayer and if thereis an expansion pack en route via Aspyr. Iim more than game.

I by no means claim that this is the best game ever. But it’s damn close. The beauty of COD4 is that even when you’ve done the campaign at least twice, the game still wants you to play it. By giving the game such an incredibly addictive mulitplayer mode, COD4 stayed in my disc tray for about 5 months, as I’m sure is true for half the people who bought it.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is easily the frontrunner for game of the year in my book. I don't care what you have to say about Halo 3 or Bioshock, this one has both of them beat. It looks better than Halo 3 and has the online play Bioshock is lacking. If you own a PS3, XBox 360, or a PC (that can handle it), go out and get this one as soon as you can. There's a reason it's hard to find some places.

Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360 delivers a visual and aural presentation that is virtually unrivaled. Listening to the sputter of gunfire and explosions all around you can’t help but be impressed with the passion the developer put into the title. Stunning moments abound in the campaign, including one that has you stumbling around a city looking off into the distance at a horrific sight. You owe it to yourself to put Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on your holiday wish list.

Nevertheless, if you haven't picked this game up yet, you definitely should. Be prepared to dedicate some time to it as it is addictive and enthralling. Infinity Ward has done an excellent job at keeping this title loyal to the quality we have come to associate this brand with.

The single player game seems shorter than previous Call of Duty games (setting aside all the restarts, of course), but flows well and serves as excellent training for the multiplayer version. There, you’ll be able to kill hours at a time, if you’re inclined to do so. You could also pop in and out within half an hour and still have plenty of fun.

If you own an Xbox 360 or are a fan of first person shooters, then you really owe it to yourself to buy this game! Not only is it a great game, but it really is an emotional experience, making you really care about these characters, think about our current world situation with the war in Iraq and other potential plights around the globe, and if anything you’ll leave the game with a deeper appreciation for today’s heroes on the front lines.

Infinity Ward may have taken a chance by modernizing the franchise, but the gamble paid off in spades. The game is one of the most gorgeous available for the 360 to date and the gameplay is absolutely fantastic, although it can be frustratingly difficult at times. Throw in the highly addicting and superb multiplayer to the package and you should be playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for a long time to come.

There are only little, meaningless things that could be done to improve this masterpiece; Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is nothing short of mind blowing. Like every journalist, every critique, I love to highlight flaws, pick at nits and tear things apart piece by piece - the only flaw I can see in Call of Duty 4 is that it's deprived me of that journalistic pleasure. Single player is a joy to play through time after time, both offline and online multiplayer is a delight that fills most of my evenings now, and everything else between the two - graphics, sound, story, playability, control, features, community - it's all spot on. It's worth every penny - and that means a lot coming from a money-obsessed tight Northerner like me!

When you factor in both the single-player and online experiences, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare should easily keep you busy for 30 or 40 hours before you even consider going through on a higher difficulty level (though given how awesome some of the stages are, who could blame you?), snagging those last few achievements or playing another match with a maxed out character. By taking a new approach and doing nearly everything perfectly, Infinity Ward has made war-based shooters exciting all over again. Don't even think about missing it!

Don't let fanboy allegiances to some other franchise blind you to Call of Duty 4's greatness. Whether or not there are better games to come this year is still something of a question mark, but Modern Warfare's impressive single player campaign, overwhelmingly deep set of multiplayer options and overall technical achievement is going to be a tough package to beat. It's a rarity to play a game as highly polished and as well-crafted as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Still, with graphics that urge the will to buy a new HDTV and game play that takes gamers to the modern front of combating terrorism Call of Duty 4 is necessary for every collection. Unless you absolutely have to have control over your teammates in the single player campaign, Call of Duty 4 really does have it all. It's epic, very difficult at higher levels and offers stunning visuals. It's not just on the PS3, though. Given the complete package, both single- and multiplayer bits, Call of Duty 4 is one of the best games ever made for any system. It marries technology with control and keeps giving for weeks if not months after you first pick up the controller. It delivers a powerful single-player experience and an almost impossibly tense, utterly addictive online component and when the two are brought together... well, you're looking at your Game of the Year right here.

Once again, as you can easily tell by the perfect score, Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat is must-have stuff. Although I wasn't one of the detractors screaming that Activision needed to get off the WWII boat and try something new, I applaud this step into the future, both in theme and design. Even if you've avoided FPS games in the past, you owe it to yourself to at least rent COD4 and try it out. It may just make an FPS fan out of you yet. Highly recommended.

Good news, Call of Duty veterans: THIS GAME IS NOT SET DURING WW II. Face it, the once-glorious series had fallen on hard times in recent years, such hard times that around the office we began referring to it as Call of Doody. Clever, eh? See, that's why we make the big bucks. The most recent games were about as much fun as having Meryl Streep's used tampon strapped to your face for about 12 hours. But Modern Warfare rights all those wrongs. It's just plain balls-out fun.

Newfangled elements such as night-vision goggles and helicopter gunships also help to make COD4 the most gripping instalment in Activision’s perennial series, and the electrifying multiplayer - where you can create a warrior and endow them with hand-picked skills - is guaranteed to keep players yomping back for more.

Unimaginable and lifelike presentation, refined gameplay that follows a tried-and-true formula, a multiplayer mode as in-depth (if not deeper) than the powerful single-player campaign -- and with that, we conclude by saying "wow". Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare does so much right that it's hard not to give it a ten. It not only sets the standard for Activision's long running franchise, but also for current-gen first-person shooting games in general. Combining a single player experience I feel the need to replay and a multiplayer experience that has me convincing my friends to pick up copies, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the kind of first person shooter that regulars of the genre should choose over all the others we’ve seen come out in the past six months. Given the quality of releases such as Crysis, Time Shift and Quake Wars, that’s saying a lot. Right now, this game is the cream of the crop, and I can’t imagine a better title upon which to bestow the Adrenaline Vault’s Seal of Excellence.

I can honestly say that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a superb accumulation to the series, incorporating just enough new additions to keep the hardcore happy and the new players excited. With such an explosive single player campaign incorporated alongside a breathtakingly simple yet sublime online mode, there is little negativity here. The difficulties may lurch from one extreme to the other, but that shouldn’t spoil such a well thought out and involving campaign. This is what gamers wanted from the series, and Infinity Ward should be applauded for their efforts in development. Modern Warfare is here with a bang, and won’t be leaving anytime soon. So although the campaign mode isn't the longest ever, it still has a story that can rival some of the other AAA titles that were released in the previous year (along with one of the greatest endings in FPS history) and multiplayer that will last until at least the next Infinity Ward-developed CoD comes about. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare not only takes the franchise out of the tired WWII era, but does so with such a grandiose flair that it would be a crime to pass it up.

In a year that has already seen the release of several incredible games, Call of Duty 4 sits at the top of the stack. Visceral, brutal, exciting, and amazing, Call of Duty 4 pairs a compelling single player game with an endlessly deep multiplayer experience to create a game that must stand as the current state of the art, at least in the shooter genre. I'm giving this game perfect 10s. Is it perfect? Of course not. If I were using a rating scale that allowed it, I might take off a few fractions of a point for the less than original plot, or level design that was sometimes limiting. However, Call of Duty 4 really is damn near perfect, and it is absolutely not to be missed.

Simply put, Call of Duty 4 does everything right and nearly nothing wrong. But where it elevates itself above even the best 360 shooters is how all of the good stuff is ludicrously good. As an individual who spent countless hours playing Call of Duty 2, I was a little disappointed in the experience that was Call of Duty 3. Modern Combat is just about as perfect a game as you can get. It falls short of total perfection only because it really doesn’t evolve the FPS genre in any significant way – not that I know what that might be, but I’d know it if I saw it. There is not doubt in my mind that the guys over at Infiniti Ward have wanted to make this game for some time and it shows with the amount of detail and perfection put into the title. Simply put, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an instant classic. The fact that Infinity Ward has created a modern-day masterpiece probably isn’t surprising given their impressive track record to date, but our lofty expectations were actually surpassed in many ways. The single-player game was particularly surprising, as none of us expected the game to have such a compelling, narrative-driven campaign. It’s one of the best stories of the year, and it instantly thrusts Infinity Ward into the storytelling pantheon with developers like Valve and Irrational. Of course, one can’t forget the multiplayer, which is just as addictive as we hoped it would be. Infinity Ward has officially killed off the WWII FPS genre, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is not only a truly "next-gen" game and experience, but really gets everything right. It nails down an intense experience, the most intense game I've ever played. It nails down the Multiplayer with it being very fun and yet having so many unlockables and somehow, making it a lot of fun for the most skilled and the least skilled. And it nails it with those "extras" - from a truly accurate RPG smoke and night vision, to the Arcade mode. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the total package. It has a few issues that really are only noticeable because of the near perfection of the game. Bravo to Infinity Ward, for exceeding hype and providing one of the best Xbox 360 games to date. Buy this game, period.

Game of the Year? Too early to say, really. There are still a few other titles to hit shelves before the coveted GOTY can be announced. But boy is it up there. Everything from the incredible game engine, amazing visuals, engrossing, artful presentation, unbelievable sound and score, compelling story, gameplay variance and never-say-die multiplayer flesh this out to be one of the year’s best, to be sure, the real point here though is if you haven’t bought it yet, pimp whatever it is you need to, to get down to your local game store. Given Infinity Wards impressive pedigree, it might not surprise many that COD4 is heading for some well earned recognition in the impending game of the year awards. Still, when you’re at the top of your game it’s very easy to take your foot off the pedal. The single player game, the arcade leaderboards and the mouth-watering multiplayer sections show every budding developer how it should be done when you are at the pinnacle of your game. For once a title has exceeded our expectations and some. It all goes without saying that if you want the best Call of Duty experience to date look no further than the forth in the illustrious series, it’s quite simply a corker. At the end of the day, Call of Duty 4 is a superb accomplishment that has already shown it has what it takes to at least get a Game of the Year nomination. The single player may be rather short for a Call of Duty game, but there’s plenty of reason to keep coming back over and over. The drift into the modern age has helped the series come out of its shell and reach new grounds, and it’s easily the best installment in the series yet. If you’re looking for a shooter to make you remove Halo 3 or The Orange Box from you Xbox 360 for a while, this will do the trick.

The perks certainly give you an advantage, but they don't ruin the gameplay for new players just starting out. It's possible through luck or skill to take out an ubersoldier at a higher level than you and it's not that rare an occurrence either. The first time I played the game on Xbox Live I was placed into a game filled with higher level players. Although I was killed more often than I took out other players, I still managed to gain enough experience in that game to advance a level. And that was in a deathmatch game. If you stick to the team-based modes at first you'll have an even better chance to level up since you can gain experience for actions such as assisting on a kill or for being part of the winning team.

If the single-player game wasn't so short, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare would be perfect. Even with that small flaw, it is easily the best FPS available on the 360, topping even Halo 3 (Yeah, I said it). Unless you completely despise multiplayer, there's little reason Modern Warfare shouldn't be on your "Must Have" list. Even if you only go for single-player games, it is worth at least a rental just for the experience. Who knows, you may even decide to give the multiplayer mode a try and discover that there's something to this whole "social" aspect of playing games.

It’s very difficult to find fault in this masterpiece. It may be short, and it may not offer split-screen online support, but I consider this to be the most polished first-person shooter I’ve ever played. Yes, it’s better than Halo 3. It may be short, and it may not offer split-screen online support, but I consider this to be the most polished first-person shooter I’ve ever played. Yes, it’s better than Halo 3. Yes, it’s better than the Half-Life games. It really is that good. The bar has just been raised.

Groan if you must, but war has never been so much fun.

Seldom do games combine top notch single player and multiplayer experiences, but truly Call of Duty 4 has done just that. The single player campaign, while relatively brief and lacking much in the way of replayability due to its extreme reliance on its scripted events, is excellently crafted in terms of both narrative and gameplay. There are a few niggling little flaws to gripe about, but they’re certainly worth enduring for all the substantial goodness. The real main event is the multiplayer though, a holiday gift that keeps on giving. Franchises come and franchises go, but between all the weapons, modes, maps, and countless customization possibilities this is one shooter that people will be playing online for a long time to come.

Modern Combat is just about as perfect a game as you can get. It falls short of total perfection only because it really doesn’t evolve the FPS genre in any significant way – not that I know what that might be, but I’d know it if I saw it. It’s a must-own, must-play game for anyone (screw the ESRB) who owns a next-gen console or high-end PC.

Overall, from single player to multiplayer, there isn't a single part of the game I don't enjoy. There's enough variety that you never feel like you're 'grinding' in multiplayer to get XP or awards, and various single player missions are worth replaying in order to try something new or beat an old score. Call of Duty 4 is a must buy!!!

Call of Duty 4 is an excellent game, there’s really no doubt about it. Top-notch presentation combined with tight gameplay and impressive graphics make it fun to play on the single-player, but it’s in the multiplayer aspect of the game that the experience is the best. As far as first-person shooters go, this is one of the best on the market, and is something anyone that’s sure to interest anyone who has dabbled in the genre.

Overall, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an intense gaming experience from start to finish. The story is conveyed much better than the average FPS, the gameplay is varied enough to stay fresh, the graphics and sound both deliver, and the multiplayer is addictive. If Call of Duty 4 can attract enough fanboys away from Halo 3 to experience it, we may have a new contender for FPS of the year. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare proves that you don't have to have Spartan superwarriors, wrenches, portals, or sci-fi to create a great shooter game.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the complete package. It is an extremely high quality game built on a quick but action packed and addictive singleplayer experience, finished off with a multiplayer experience that rivals the best when it comes to sheer fun and enjoyment, all wrapped up in an engine that delivers with an overriding sense of 'cutting edge' throughout the entire experience. If this game is any indication, the days of 'built for console' shooters stinking up the PC platform are well and truly over because while it does seem reasonably evident that console friendly designs were implemented at times, there is no doubting that COD 4 will be thoroughly considered by the gaming industry pundits come PC GOTY 2007 time - I know it will be for me, that's for sure. I just don't know if I've ever played a shooter so well made with such brilliant execution in almost every regard - this is simply a must have for any PC action/shooter fans.

Wrapping things up in a neat Christmas-present sized package, then, I still feel I could have warbled longer about the weapons, the mission variety, the plot nuances, the un-ending immersion, the enemy AI (which is very good, by the way), or the visuals. But I think you're getting the gist by now - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the complete package. The single-player is a little short, but the action is relentless and polished to the point of reflection, the multiplayer, meanwhile, will keep you coming back time and again. This is the next-generation. A bona fide masterpiece.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is exactly what the Call of Duty franchise needed. An exquisite title with an awe-inducing single player campaign, fast paced and exciting multiplayer, and the grand shift away from the overbearing mantra of WWII titles. Call of Duty 4 outclasses 99.9% of the FPS games this year. Overall, this title ranks among the best this year. If you only play for 5 minutes, you'll want to go back and play another 5, then another… you get the idea. The game is over too soon but that is because each facet of the game comes together with that "x" factor and the time flies. Fire in the Hole!

Bottom-line, Call of Duty 4 delivers. It is the very pinnacle of first-person shooters. Unlike another mega-popular first person shooter franchise, Call of Duty 4 keeps the redundancy and repetition to a bare minimum through the single-player campaign. It does so by making you perform a variety of different tasks throughout most of the missions, and thus creates an exceptionally diverse single-player element that few, or even, no FPS game has done before. Call of Duty 4 combines a superb visual package with unparalleled audio for an experience that will surely not be toppled for quite some time. And while its single-player can last a paltry six hours, the multiplayer will have you going for a long, long time. At this point, the only FPS game that can possibly stand toe-to-toe with Call of Duty 4 is Sony's Killzone 2, but that one's still got some time before seeing light. Call of Duty 4 is brilliant. Go get it.

Call of Duty 4 has the best of both worlds: a tight, fast-paced single player campaign that never feels like a chore, and a fleshed-out multiplayer game with dozens or hundreds of hours of gameplay in it. With only three drawbacks to speak of (short campaign, no co-operative campaign, and friendly fire) Call of Duty 4 deserves to be in the running for Overall Game of the Year. While the realistic represented blood and gore should deter parents from purchasing the title for those too sensitive for such horrors as warfare I am fairly confident that gamers in their teens or older will all enjoy CoD4 as much as I do.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the best game in the series yet, largely due to the change in setting and the level of emotion that Infinity Ward has embedded into their story. While it lacks the many cooperative play options of other games, it's still got great action in the style of previous Call of Duty titles and fierce online play with satisfying gunfights and a great progression system. Everything that made this series famous is here, and I think you'll be surprised just at how well it all works in the new modern day setting. There are a hell of a lot of new action games available on the 360 this holiday season, and this one should definitely be at least near the top of your list.

There’s not much more to say other than if you love kick-ass shooters, then Call of Duty 4 is a no brainer. And it’s the real thing; heck, even Infinity Ward themselves cheekily call this game the “third installment” of the series in a rap song during the closing credits, a not-so-subtle diss at those other developers. Cocky? Sure – but wholly justified. Accept no imitations, folks, and heed the call now.

That Call of Duty 4 feels short is in part because, well, it is, but perhaps mainly because it’s one of those games that you don’t want to end. The replay value is definitely there, even if that isn’t the same as experiencing all-new levels, but the fact of the matter is that you won’t find a single player experience quite like this, anywhere. That said, if you’re not planning to take it online then you’re missing out big time since that’s potentially where most of your time could end up being spent, and what ultimately makes the game a more reasonable proposition. Still, unless you’re a confirmed pacifist, you will want this game.

Overall, Call of Duty 4 is arguably the greatest multiplayer title on Xbox Live to date. It holds a solid place as one of the absolute must-have titles on the Xbox 360 for shooter fans, right up there with Gears of War and Halo 3. With the plethora of different maps, game modes, and weapons and the outstanding Create-a-class and ranking system, I challenge anyone to come up with a reason why this game is anything short of phenomenal. You'll be hard pressed to ever find another player using the exact same class build that you're using, meaning that you never know what to expect going into a match. To top it all off, everything is balanced near perfectly. While some guns and perks are a little overpowered, it very rarely becomes an issue. Besides, you'll be having way too much fun to notice such small details anyway. If you haven't bought Call of Duty 4 yet, you need to quit reading this review and go buy it. Right now.

Call of Duty 4 is, without a doubt, one of the finest games of the year so far. In a year crammed to the brim with first-class shooting games, Call of Duty 4 manages to hit towards the top of the pile with its incredible, though brief, single player campaign and its deep multiplayer component. If you’re a fan of real-life war-themed shooters, there isn’t a better one so far this year. It’s the best Call of Duty game so far and hopefully will spark other developers to follow suit by breaking out of the redundant World War II genre. It doesn’t matter what platform you get Call of Duty 4, all that matters is it deserves a spot in any action fan’s collection.

Being the huge shooter fan that I am, this title is well suited to me & other FPS fans out there. I am enjoying this title at the time of writing this (A little love on IW part with some DLC would be appreciated). It was a bold move on Infinity Wards be-half by updating the title to current “Theatres of Conflict” & a much appreciated one. The flogging of WW2 shooters has been rampant of late, but the use of modern weapons & technology, is a fantastic step forward. The audio is the only fault I can pick with this title, apart from that…….I have no gripes. I highly recommend this title to all First Person Shooter fans out there, You won’t be let down.

Put simply - and this is despite the short single player campaign - this is one of the best games we have ever played. If you don't have your PS3 connected online there is no better reason to do it then Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A technical marvel, gameplay rush and online showcase makes this an essential purchase, and quite possibly (although there are a few other titles that could still claim that prize) 2007 Game of the Year!

The amount of excitement COD4 has generated is completely justified. Infinity Ward has proven once again what happens when a developer takes their time, does the research and puts in the effort to do things correctly with a game. While many other games try for a Hollywood block-buster feel, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare pulls it off like no one else ever has and does so in great fashion. The comprehensive multiplayer features are going to ensure that COD4 will remain on players' hard drives long after the single-player story has been completed. And to have such great graphics, sound and gameplay on both the single-player and multiplayer sides, gamers everywhere are going to count themselves lucky. Now, if there was some way for gamers to exude such a pleasing aroma as me, LAN parties everywhere would be much more enjoyable.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is exactly the reboot that this franchise needed. I’m sure that it took a lot of convincing to get Activision to sign off on moving to a modern setting instead of the wildly successful World War II model that has performed so well since the game’s inception, but it has paid off in spades. Goodbye Halo 3, hello Modern Warfare!

When playing games the first impression usually counts the most. Sure, with RPGs or adventure games it takes a while before you can make a decision on how good the game is, but with shooters you can make an educated guess after playing for only a couple of minutes. In this case you can even make a decision after just a few seconds of playing, and if that decision is anything but heartfelt approval you obviously have a strange taste in games. Sure, at its core CoD4 is just a rehash of previous games in a different environment. But for that matter, all of the cars you see today have 4 tires and a steering wheel just like cars from decades ago. That doesn’t meant they aren’t a whole lot better however, does it?

Tatsächlich hegte ich ja Zweifel, ob mir Call of Duty 4 gefallen würde.

The long and short of it is that COD4 is both short and long: short in its refreshing single-player campaign, long in its deep multiplayer value. That the shortcomings of each should be the strong points of the other averts disaster on both fronts. And that leaves us to appreciate the game’s spectacular production value—delivering more ahh's than there are hoo-ahs at a Marine Corps bowling night.

Online matches are kept fresh (a tall order for such a crowded field) with a generous series of player upgrades. Every kill, captured flag, or win earns experience points. Promotions score you new "perks" like the ability to take a couple of pre-death potshots at the jerk who iced you. These carrots are an incredibly effective sleight-of-hand, distracting players from realizing that they're replaying the same scenario over and over. These bribes, as well as the refreshing change of scenery, are more than welcome.

Call of Duty fans worried by the series' move to the modern age of combat can breathe a sigh of relief. Although a new setting, Call of Duty 4 is everything we've come to love about the series and continues its tradition of stunning visuals and thrilling gameplay. Fans of Call of Duty can sleep safely without the gun under their pillow, knowing that the series has not been doomed to dwell in the nineteen-forties forever. It was a smart move to go into the near desolate war zone of modern era shooters. CoD4 proves that a game does not have to be set in the past or the future to be great – it just needs to be well made. A gripping story and simulative combat combined with a fantastic multiplayer system makes Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a must-have on your Christmas wish list. Playing CoD4 could be likened to listening to a great album, or watching a first-rate action flick. It will feel pretty much the same each time, but the ride is so fun and entertaining that it is well worth playing over again. While some players may be disappointed by its relatively short campaign, the sheer quality on display in addition to the deep multiplayer mode more than make up for it. Not everyone can spend 20 hours on a game. I think there should be more titles out there that try to convey a large-scale feel within a short, high quality package. With its polished cinematic presentation, well-paced action, and surprisingly emotional story, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare brilliantly captures the feel of a grand, epic game.

Quite simply, Call of Duty 4 is a stunning game and quite difficult to fault. It looks, sounds and plays brilliantly and offers an unrivaled online experience. If we're to nit-pick, then the respawning enemies found in some parts of the Campaign can be frustrating and feel a bit old-fashioned compared to how advanced the rest of the game is. Infinity Ward's latest first-person shooter is brilliantly executed, and every major element of the game has been accomplished expertly and effectively. Regardless of how good the game is, I am still stuck with a criticism I always seem to make of these games - they are too short. You will complete it in ~4 - 5 hours if you have any experience with first person shooters. And since the games are extremely scripted, replaying them means encountering the same battles fought the same way time and again - in other words there is little inherent replay value outside of multiplayer. But don't mistake those concerns with a significant criticism - even if you never launch multiplayer, you will complete the single player campaign and feel totally satisfied with the experience. This is an amazing game and one of the best shooters this year - in a fall crowded with other excellent shooters it deserves your attention and hard-earned dollars.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an incredibly deep game that you will keep you coming back for more and more, even after you have done everything. You will want to go through the single player campaign multiple times just so you can experience everything the game has to offer. There is also nothing funner than inviting a bunch of your friends into a private match and see who is the last man standing. It’s fast paced nature ensures that you will experience a game that can definitely get your adrenaline pumping. If you are a fan of the shooter genre this game is a must own. In a genre full of clichéd World War II shooters, Infinity Ward has once again changed things up and set the benchmark for other studios to follow.

PlayStation 3Play.tm
To summarise, Call of Duty 4 is one of the most polished FPS titles I've ever played, it does not redefine the genre but simply shows others how it should be done. An immersive storyline captures the imagination but falls down by being too short. The single player lasts only 5-6 hours but a fully formed multiplayer allays any woes. If the multiplayer has its issues resolved, hours of entertainment is to be had working up through the ranks. It is not the quickest to connect to though, joining can take 4-5 minutes for the server to find a game and do what needs to be done. Infinity Ward have made a wise decision in updating the slightly saggy saga of WWII, it has been wiped down, tooled up, teched up and is ready for whatever the modern day combat situations can throw at it. Hopefully, then, this is the start of another successful modern warfare series.

Overall, this is one of the top contenders for ‘best game’ of 2007, with very few titles having much of a chance of beating this mighty colossus of a release. The makers did an excellent job from jumping from the World War II genre straight into the modern day setting, and pulled it off to a near perfect level. I really can’t find much to criticise about, and it’s been a tough one to fit everything into the review, but with so much to say about this title, it’s hard to dumb it down. This is a definite MUST BUY.

At the end of the day Call of Duty 4 is a brilliant package and the ultimate achievement in the series. The single player may be a brief war of shock and awe but just like the continual war on terror, the online battle will be continuous and with us for a very long time.

Intense, gorgeous and with a well-plotted original story, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare should be atop everyone's list of first-person shooters this year.

The huge addition lifespan the online play adds to a campaign mode which may be short on playing time, but certainly not on memorable moments or replay value, means that Infinity Ward really have created a balanced game that's a hit in both the single and multiplayer camps. It's a title that has brought the series into the modern day in every sense and is bound to have a dramatic effect on the next generation of console skirmishes. In videogame terms CoD 4 really does rewrite the old book on war.

It's a shame that the single-player is so brief, but you should only skip out on Call of Duty 4 if you're the sort of person who doesn't appreciate great first-person shooter multiplayer. The quality of the content in the campaign is totally top-shelf, and the multiplayer is some of the best around, making this a truly superb package.

The only major complaint that can be made against CoD4 are that it's rather short - the single-player campaign can be cleared in a weekend - but with the option to replay it on higher difficulty levels or via the superb Arcade mode, and with the exceptionally addictive multiplayer game, this isn't a game that will easily find its way into the bargain bins. It's a big-budget, beautifully crafted slice of next-gen promise kept; on many levels it's one of the best first person shooters released in a year of strong rivals, and perhaps even the best PlayStation 3 game released so far.

If the solid but lackluster console-only Call of Duty 3 indicated that the series was destined to become another tired World War II series that degraded with each entry, along comes Modern Warfare that takes you into two scenarios of unrest that look at feel very realistic in today's world to prove you wrong. This is a game that has upped the ante on a number of levels from previous shooters - it looks, feels and plays better and more intense than just about any other war shooter ever made.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has just about everything anyone could want from a shooter. There's an intense single player campaign with great characters and an interesting storyline, and it follows-up with great multiplayer action

Top notch graphics and sound lead Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to unrivaled heights. Throw in an engaging offline game albeit short and you have a nominee for Game of the Year. Rich, deep online play will keep fans of the genre and Call of Duty enthralled for months. Anyone who is remotely interested in FPSs needs to take the time and check this game out.

A very fine example of the genre, Call of Duty 4 is setting new benchmarks for multiplayer action, and will likely be being played for many months, even years, to come. It narrowly misses out on a 10 for not being more original, but it's still a near-perfect FPS worthy of a very high 9.

If you can't tell already, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the best in the series. It's one of the most ferocious shooters on the market and everything from the gameplay, graphics, and sound comes together in perfect harmony to create a visceral wartime experience that will grab you and not let go. The single player campaign is short though amazing and the multiplayer functionality is out of this world with a fantastic amount of depth that stems from the RPG elements. I can't wait to see what Infiniti Ward has in mind for downloadable content but until then this remains one of the greatest games on the market right now.

Call of Duty fans worried by the series' move to the modern age of combat can breathe a sigh of relief. Although a new setting, Call of Duty 4 is everything we've come to love about the series and continues its tradition of stunning visuals and thrilling gameplay. The single-player is short but the Arcade game mode and brilliant online multiplayer combine to create one of the games of the year. It's more of the same, but every bit as polished as we hoped it would be.

If you're a fan of Call of Duty then the choice is simple - since this is the best, most rounded in the series to date, and we hope there are many more to come. If you've never touched a COD game before, then you definitely need to weight this up against the shockingly good choice in FPS games out now and consider this a very serious contender - it's a great package.

Despite some flaws, and a campaign that maybe should have lasted longer, COD4 is a top drawer game with a multiplayer setup to equal just about anything out there. The fact that it lacks two of my favourite things in a shooter (no, not boobs and beer); usable vehicles and a co-op mode, means it’s not quite a 10 for me, but if you don’t play it, you’ll regret it.

Still, though, Call of Duty 4 is a resounding success. By bringing a solemn, contemplative experience to PCs, it is just another example of how video games are moving forward. The intense and difficult experience should be played by anyone who enjoys a good story. Even with an anemic singleplayer offering, the full game is worth a purchase for the multiplayer experience. If you're tired of glossed-over, one-sided, boorish war games, then the new Call of Duty is most definitely worth your time.

With all the amazing shooters coming out you might think that Call of Duty 4 would have a hard time breaking away from the already crowded field, but thanks to its quality story, presentation and multiplayer modes, that is just not the case. Along the way you will discover that this year's Call of Duty is not all that different from past entries, which given the pedigree of Infinity Ward's previous work isn't a bad thing at all. I'm excited to see what these developers can do now that they aren't tied to World War II, I wouldn't mind seeing a possible future warfare or a sequel that directly follows the aftermath of this exciting game. Regardless of whether you were a fan of the Call of Duty games in the past, this brand new era and emphasis on exciting gameplay should not be missed. If Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had a longer single player campaign our score would have been even higher. As it stands Infinity Ward's latest game still is worth the money to buy and experience for yourself. You will enjoy the single player storyline, even if it's not as long as it should be, and the impressive graphics and you will keep coming back to the game for its cool multiplayer features. Equal parts fun and gripping game play (and possibly geopolitical commentary, depending on how you look at it), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare stands as stunning example of a scripted first-person shooter done right that equals or exceeds the other big first-person shooters on the market today like BioShock, Halo 3, and Half-Life 2.

In every way this is the definitive 'real world' FPS, incorporating the best aspects of Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Battlefield, but bringing those experiences to a far wider range of gamers, many of whom would be turned off by those more hardcore titles. It even crescendos to a great and dark but conclusive ending. At Modern Warfare's core is very modern entertainment, but the downside to this dense and gripping delivery is that it's over far too quickly, five to six hours on normal difficulty. You do have a short bonus solo mission after the credits, the solo Arcade mode to beat your friends' scores at, and of course the enormously comprehensive multiplayer options, although many will be disappointed that there are no controllable vehicles over Xbox Live this time. Call Of Duty 4 is short but immensely satisfying and we can't wait for a post-modern revival.

Taken as a whole, it’s hard not to like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Reflex Edition. The controls are solid and the presentation (while average) is decent enough not to detract from the performance. The single player mode is compelling and the arcade mode is a nice change-up. Most importantly of all, though, the online mode is a home run. Although the risks of hacking are here as in every other Wii online title, the infrastructure of the game is outstanding and represents the sort of depth and scope that has been largely lacking in previous Wii shooters. What’s more, getting online is quick, easy, and lag-free. Wii owners looking for an online game -- especially one not set during World War II -- should pick this one up without hesitation. Highly recommended.

All told, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition does right by the source material. The expertly scripted and intensely exciting campaign is just as entertaining as it was two years ago on other systems, and even the occasional lapses in visual fidelity and control precision can't keep it from being a must-play for Wii shooter fans. Though the multiplayer will feel familiar to World at War veterans, the modern guns, equipment, and perks will make it feel new again, and the expanded gameplay modes offer a lot more variety. Though there are a few hitches to deal with, the core excellence of this game shines through, giving Wii owners a great shooter to keep them entertained for months to come.

Call of Duty 4 is a solid game that is easy to get into, but has enough content that most gamers will be able to find a lasting appeal for several months in the multiplayer arenas. Being on the PC the game does manage to have tighter controls from its other console based versions, and the addition of Mods will make the game have legs the 360 and PS3 probably won’t ever come close to having. The bottom line is that Call of Duty is a good purchase regardless of its faults and shortcomings.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition does have a few little niggles that bring the game down, but this is the best FPS on Wii and will have you hooked for hours on end, both online and offline. Even if you have previously owned it on the Xbox or PS3 you can still happily pick it up and play for hour upon hour. The online multiplayer adds so much depth to the game and even being able to have a friend play alongside you in the style of a House of Dead arcade shooter does make for a very fun night all be it novel. Yes, it’s far from perfect - better co-op and graphics would also be nice - but pound for pound it’s worth every penny and is a must buy for any first person shooter fan.

Basically, Wii owners who have the same taste in games as I do will like Modern Warfare Reflex more than most "regular" Modern Warfare fans would, but not by that much. Other than the SD graphics, variations on multiplayer, and pointer controls, this is still Modern Warfare. It's still the first game in the most popular series that this particular genre has ever seen. Not enough has changed about the game, for better or worse, to make a dent in that.

"Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (or COD4) is an infinitely polished and well-thought out game. But the niggles are enough for me not to like it as much as either 2 or 3 on the 360. But its still worth a play for sure, even a flawed Call of Duty stands far above most games on the system.

Infinity Ward splashes a modern coat of coding on top of its old formula of checkpoint-to-checkpoint run and gun action. In an initial viewing it might seem like a lot has changed, but in reality it’s just an illusion. This noted, if you loved a Call of Duty game in the past then you are going to love Call of Duty 4. The modern plot line, fast action, great graphics and online play are worth the price of admission. Granted you are only on the ride of six or so hours unless you want to experience the thrill of gunning down strangers online. Recycled and reformated into an even better expreince, Call of Duty 4 deserves all the acclaim it's been gathering with its tried and true formula. If it works, why change? COD4 remains, in every way, a Call of Duty game; a smartly scripted first-person shooter where pressing F on flashing objectives passes for interactivity. The compliment isn't entirely backhanded. Nobody does dug-in heels quite like Infinity Ward, and blitzing through the developer's enemy-flush scenarios is often exhilarating.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex may have more subtitles than it needs but it is a respectable port of one of the greatest first-person shooter experiences of our time. Yes the visuals take a beating, the multiplayer is lacking voice chat and a larger player count, but when all is said and done you have to appreciate the amount of effort that Treyarch put into re-creating the experience as well as they did. Reflex isn’t going to impress anyone who has already logged countless hours in the original game, but if you only own a Wii and have yet to experience the phenomenon that is Modern Warfare, you are definitely in for a thrill ride.

The original Modern Warfare is hands-down one of – if not the single best – first person shooters out there when it comes to blending an immersive story and intense multiplayer together. Unfortunately, Reflex Edition on Wii just doesn’t cut it as a Call of Duty branded game or as a top-tier Wii first-person shooter. The framerate is jumpy, the pointer tracking needs some serious polish, and while most of the elements of COD4 are included, none of them are given enough fine-tuning to truly excel. It’s obvious that World at War was given either a larger dev time, larger budget, or larger team (or all of the above) than Modern Warfare’s first stint on Wii. If you can cope with the somewhat unintuitive controls there’s a fun experience to be had. It’s just a shame that amidst the near-endless amount of customization is a ported engine that can’t offer true pointer precision.

Call of Duty 4: Reflex Edition could have been an amazing game. With a proper port, this could have been a perfect complement to the previous iteration of the title. However, the port job feels like it was cheaply thrown together, and an unfortunately large amount gets lost in translation. The atmosphere is almost entirely gone in the Wii version, and the buggy nature of the port leaves much to be desired. There's still fun to be had, but this is by far the worst version. If you have a chance to play Call of Duty 4 on any of the other consoles or PC, you should take it. Although the entire experience is available in the Wii version, it's bundled up in an amazingly underwhelming package that will fail to satisfy anyone who has played Call of Duty on any other platform in the past.

Modern Warfare may have finally found its way to the Wii, but I wish the original console controls had made the jump as well. Instead, Wii players get a game that forces heavy reliance on aim-assist (especially in multiplayer). The ultimate battle is with the controller, rather than the on-screen bad guys.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare : Edition Réflexes est ni bon ni mauvais.
