Гоночная игра, в которой никто не обращает внимание на занимаемое в гонке место, - не нонсенс, а Carmageddon. Вы никогда не поймете, приехали вы к финишу первым или катитесь последним. Вернее, никто из компьютерных персонажей финишем не интересуется, а заветная цифра (места по порядку) нигде не показывается.

Let me put it like this: I've been in a real destruction derby, which was bloody scary, and Carmageddon is as near to that as you're going to get. You FEEL the contact, and that's no joke. The sound effects are superb too. Yes, everything is superb, and it all melds together into something out of this world. Grovel, grovel, fawn, fawn, arse-lick, arse-lick, Carmageddon is God!

Carmageddon is een prachtig spel dat door de vele mogelijkheden niet snel gaat vervelen. Het enige minpuntje is de besturing met een stuurwiel of joystick: wanneer je te lang op je rem blijft drukken ga je automatisch achteruit rijden. If you need to blow off a little steam or you want a racing simulation that is different than the rest, you need to go buy this game. Carmageddon is a masterpiece of racing and hard-core action. The game doesn't get old, you can try to win each race in a number of different ways, and the whole thing is an action-packed, high-octane, bloody mess. Old men with canes, cows, women on the beach . . . no one is safe from the total carnage of Carmageddon. If you're not sure if you have the stomach for something like this, download the demo and give it a try. It will give you a really good idea of what to expect. Otherwise, go buy the game and help make our nation's streets a little safer. Happy hunting!

Carmageddon on varmasti sairain koskaan pelaamani autopeli. Periaatteessa radat ajetaan läpi järjestyksessä tarkistuspisteiden läpi ja maaliin pitäisi tulla ennen muita, oikeasti kaiken tuollaisen jäykistelyn voi unohtaa. Vaikka ratoja ja autoja on paljon, ei Carmageddon silti ole mitään kovin pitkäaikaista hupia. Mielenkiinto alkaa hiipua, kun kaikki autot on kokeiltu. Siihen saakka täysin järjetön kolarointi pitää tiukasti otteessaan ja ensimmäisen kyllästymisenkin jälkeen tulee aika ajoin pakottava tarve päästä törmäilemään.

But this is not a racing sim by any stretch of the imagination. If you can keep that in mind, you shouldn't be disappointed. Carmageddon is visceral, violent, vehicular fun, no strings attached, no artificial morals or ethics added, and no artificial colors - just black, blue, and red all over.

This is one fantastic game -- it's demolition derby with a body count. If you're looking for a racing game that tosses the rulebook away, this is it. The variety of tracks and opponents, combined with the freedom to go anywhere and run over anything, makes this game a great stress reliever. The only drawback is the lack of modem or Internet support for multi-player games. This has quickly become one of my favorites -- I would definitely recommend Carmageddon to anyone looking for a little uncontrolled mayhem.

I have to be honest - Carmageddon isn't revolutionary. It isn't pleasant, it isn't nice, and it isn't something to show mom. It's a game that breaks the rules by shamelessly allowing full-fledged violence to take center stage, all the while maintaining strong gameplay and good design. C'mon, you've always wondered what it was like to run over a cop...or a cow...or a...

Negativ fällt neben der langsamen Grafik die Steuerung auf. Der Wagen reagiert viel zu stark auf den Tastendruck und neigt dazu, schnell auszubrechen. Das heißt, daß er beim normalen Lenken fast häufiger ins Schleudern gerät, als wenn ich die Handbremse ziehe und das Steuer herumreißen. Glücklicherweise gewöhnt man sich mit ein wenig Fingerspitzengefühl und einer Menge Zeit an die empfindlichen Reaktionen der Vehikel.

Although Carmageddon is not designed for those under 17 years of age, those who are responsible enough to know that it is only a "game" will find it fun to play. Its realistic effects (in the U.S. version) are quite crisp in the high-resolution, although you'll need some fast hardware to see fluid action in full screen (without 3Dfx acceleration). We hope that a Mac version of the 3Dfx Carmageddon patch will be made available soon. I am disappointed that the CD-ROM is required in the drive in order for the game to play, even when the entire program is copied onto the hard disk. The only portion not installed (when copying the Carmageddon folder to the hard disk) is the music soundtrack. If I'm going to use up 300 MB of my hard disk for a game, I shouldn't be required to keep the CD-ROM in the drive. Still, if you can get over the violent game play and play the game for what it is (target practice), you will find it to be a truly enjoyable experience.

Lassen Sie sich nicht von der altbackenen VGA-Grafik abschrecken: Carmageddon ist ein ungeheuer witziges und spannendes Spiel. Das Fahrgefühl ist brilliant, es gibt Action satt, und der Meisterschaftsmodus motiviert ungeheuer.

Carmageddon 64 is a solid title that puts out a fine amount of action and variety for your gaming dollar. It's not as well suited for younger players given all the senseless violence it encourages, but the older audiences will find a game with a surprisingly solid physics engine, realistic collisions, and some go-anywhere racing that you don't often see on a console system. Running over zombies is but one of the game's morally questionable charms.

Carmageddon weckt die Urinstinkte frustrierter Autofahrer. Bei den spektakulären Zusammenstößen und Querfeldeinfahrten können sich die aufgestauten Aggressionen gehörig entladen. Und wenn auf dem Zähler gerade die restlichen Sekunden verstreichen, fangen auf der Jagd nach den letzten einsamen Drohnen meine überstrapazierten Nerven gehörig zu flattern an. Leider sitzt Carmageddon mit seinem Genre-Mix zwischen den Rennsesseln; ernsthafte Piloten nervt die Drohnenjagd abseits der Piste, für Actionspieler andererseits sind fortwährende Karambolagen auf Dauer zu eintönig.

With Carmageddon, SCi has produced a game that will please and anger in equal measure. Using themes explored most famously in the '70s Stallone movie, 'Death Race 2000', the challenge here is to race cars and deal death. Each of the 36 routes across 11 different maps is littered with pedestrians and cows, which, when driven into, collapse in a shower of the blood, rewarding the driver with time and cash bonuses. Money is used to improve cars between races (increasing armour, engine speed and 'offensive' power - an indication of the amount of damage you can do to computer drivers) or perform repairs during a race.

Tut, tut, tut! With an enormous tweak of the graphics engine, a complete redesign of the physics and possibly a huge amount of extra money Carmageddon could be a classic. As it stands... it's all hype. Buy or rent? Your choice. But don't say I didn't warn you!

In the end, Carmageddon 64 just isn't very playable. The thin pretense of racing doesn't come through, and, unlike the PC versions, it actually matters this time, as there isn't much reward in smashing into the same dodgy vehicles and creatures over and over again. The two-player modes aren't much of a consolation, either, as few people would want to subject their friends to a game with such flawed mechanics.

I never thought it would happen, but there is now actually a game on the market that's impressively worse than Superman 64 -- and it's from Titus Software. Well done old pals! Carmageddon for PC -- a fun little racer -- hits N64 as a ruined, broken, sloppy, worthless port that really only serves one purpose: to remind players just how important time and effort are when porting a franchise to home console. There is no point to this rubbish. Absolutely, positively, whatever you do, do not buy this game!
