This game is not for everyone, as it requires a lot of patience. It requires a lot of planning. If you want an easy-going game, look elsewhere. This game is for the people who got an insatiable craving for challenge, longevity and the use of brain. Channeling Kobe Bryant, you’ll love or hate this game for the exact same reason.
As with all budget titles, the price is the best thing about Carnivores 2. But do not grimace if you find this one under the tree this Xmas. It's fun, fairly involving, and it looks and sounds almost as good as a game you would pay full price for.

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter, an iPhone update to a late-'90s PC title, lets you safely carry out this fantasy. This isn't Doom with dinosaurs: patience, cautiousness, and skillful planning are all necessary to bag one of the extinct beasts with modern weapons like sniper rifles and shotguns. Better weapons and different settings can be earned through successful hunts. You also have extremely limited ammo and no way to heal yourself, which means that unless you know what you're doing, you're more than likely to wind up being hunted yourself, uttering your last words to that cunning velociraptor: "Clever girl..."
WindowsDaily Radar (1999)
Many gamers are skeptical about the rise of "hunting" games. Crusty gamers like us often consider the hunting game a sorry excuse for a first-person shooter, lacking the cutting edge technology and design quality of blockbusters like Half-Life or Quake II. Early hunting games certainly helped to create that opinion, with dated graphics, poor gameplay, and hick appeal. Besides, why hunt ducks when multiplayer gaming showed the most dangerous game is man himself? Even crap like Microsoft Windows can get better with time. Carnivores 2 just crashed through the brush and made us eat our words.
WindowsIGN (Jan 25, 2000)
Carnivores 2 is an enjoyable action game at an affordable price, and it's a perfect mainstream title for "non-gamers". It's one of those diversions you would probably play only for a few minutes at a time (nothing wrong with that if you consider how many times you've played Solitaire, Tetris or Bust-A-Move while on the phone with a buddy) but do yourself a favor and forget that it's "another hunting game" and if the $19.99 isn't enough incentive for you, download the free demo from our download site.
WindowsGameSpot (Nov 12, 1999)
Carnivores 2 is a great diversion just like its ancestor. You can play for a few minutes or, just as easily, a few hours, because each hunt can last for as long as you like, and the game provides an extensive and variable challenge. Your style of play will change drastically depending on whether you're hunting a meat eater or a plant eater, and the game is even more dynamic than the first now that you can throw everything into the mix at once. Those who played the original Carnivores ought to expect more of the same (at the same low price), while those who didn't, but who either like dinosaurs or the idea of shooting them, ought to take this second chance without hesitation.
WindowsAll Game Guide (1998)
All in all, Carnivores 2 represents a solid hunting game with a great twist. If you didn't play the first one and think you might like a hunting sim featuring prehistoric animals that can also hunt you, then it might be worth your time. Otherwise, you need to be a true fan of the first Carnivores to relish the few enhancements that this second release brings.
WindowsComputer Games Magazine (Nov 23, 1999)
It's definitely fun for a while—probably long enough to justify the game's $19.99 price tag—but you'll likely tire of the game long before you have enough points to hunt the really big game.
WindowsGame Over Online (Nov 25, 1999)
Let's see now, excellent graphics, realistic sound... oh, and they added the digit 2 to the end of Carnivores. Clever! Besides the addition of a few new dinosaurs, Carnivores 2 does little to expand on the original game. They've got a solid 3D engine, but I think it's time they use a little of their imagination to create a real solid gaming experience. Something with a little substance. Maybe then they wouldn't have to sell their games so cheap.
WindowsPC Gamer (1999)
Engine and control quirks aside, and considering the low price, you definitely get what you pay for when you buy Carnivores 2; it does have its moments. There were plenty of times when I wanted to go out to get that elusive "one more kill" so I could qualify to hunt the T-Rex, and more than a few occasions when I was humbled by the AI behind some of those pesky raptors. I'll tell you, those scaly bastards are no pushovers. Fans of hunting games will - and should - snatch this one up in a second, as it provides quite a different challenge than those pathetic, placid deer.

WindowsPC Joker (Dec, 1999)
