Caster would have a strong lasting appeal – if it lasted. The biggest disappointment I had was how short the game was. By the time I was ripping Flanx to pieces on an epic godlike scale, the game seemed to be over with. Elecorn’s Mike Smith has stated on his site that this was but the first installment and gamers who fork over the $5 will have access to the following chapters for free. In a recession, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Mike Smith has made an elegant and surprising pleasant game. The gameplay and structure are solid. The graphics need a little work and the length of the game is promised to be improved upon. All in all, I have to say Caster is one of the best compiled games I’ve played in recent memory. I would happily spend $10 to keep up the good fight against the Flanx. In conclusion, this game gave my fingers a work out – and a slight god complex. Pick it up!

WindowsGame Tunnel
The game has some small rough spots, but I'm willing to overlook them because Caster is just that much fun. It's got enough character that I'm willing to endorse it, even if it's not as pretty and polished as some of its peers.

WindowsOut Of Eight
The memorable alien enemies, from small bugs to giant ant-looking-things, provide a good challenge for the aspiring mage (that would be you). The level of difficult never becomes annoying, however, as dying simply resets your score instead of the entire level, and finishing a map is merely a matter of persistence, no matter how inept you might be. Aiming for perfection has its rewards, however, as you will then have more cash to spend on upgrades in preparation for the final battle. The presentation is certainly indie-level, but the game does have some distinct visuals (notably the enemy models) that would be improved with better textures. The game's fifteen levels are over far too quickly, but the developer has stated that you'll get all future content included for free (whatever that may entail). Caster is a game with distinctly more advantages than pitfalls and provides a couple of hours of good blasting fun.

iPhoneTouchGen
Caster is one of those games I think every iPhone and iPod touch user should experience and I definately think that it is worth the current price of $4.99. It shows how fun and well produced a game can be for our nifty little device. Sadly it is over too soon and I hope for more missions in future updates.

WindowsGames Radar
Oddly, Caster could have been far more interesting. Two of the beams let you either remove or add to the terrain, Populous-style, and your enormous jumps lead to reality-rippling landings. Had any of this been used beyond getting a couple of orbs out of some liquid, it might have had a hook. As it is, the whole game is so elementary as to barely distract.

We can see the outlines of a good game in Caster, but it's not worth $4.99 at the moment. Still, Elecorn is clearly a talented developer. We're looking to them to provide the additional content and gameplay tweaks that will make Caster a worthwhile buy.
