Gameplay allows you to alternate between the four Pevensie siblings, each with their own unique ability: the very brawny elder brother Peter, the limber and more agile Edmund, Susan, the older sister who is good at both weaponry and hunting, and the youngest sister Lucy, who is superb for inspecting tight spaces.

For the most part, this is a fantastic game that defies the standard rule about licensed games being crappy. Fans of the film are sure to enjoy it, although those who haven’t seen the film (or at least read the book) might be a bit disoriented by the way the game presents the plot. However, that’s a small complaint for a title that otherwise vastly exceeds expectations.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe does an excellent job of paying homage to the book and movie of the same name. It's definitely aimed at kids, but then again so is the book and the movie. It's done so well and contains so much variety that all gamers will find something to like about it.

Narnia stands as a near perfect example of how to make a movie-based videogame the right way. Everything from the combat system and level design to the game’s visual presentation just scream quality. The technology alone is damn impressive. But throw in ten hours of cool bosses, refined gameplay and awesome visuals and you’ve got the recipe for one seriously entertaining game.

It's a rare thing when a videogame adaptation of a blockbuster film doesn't suck. The reason, of course, is simple. Studios want these games to cash in on a movie's popularity as quickly as possible, giving developers little time to develop a product of worth. As such, most of these small-screen adaptations are barely worth their packaging. They're often shameless exploitations of greater works of art. So when a game as enjoyable as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe comes along, it's a rare treat.

While this game falls a bit short of the high mark that Escape from Butcher Bay set, it certainly more than tops the offerings from the Harry Potter universe. The Chronicles of Narnia is a much cherished story and series of books. It is more than a pleasant surprise to find the video game translation not only fairly faithful to the story but also fun on its own merits. From watching the cut-scenes, I can tell that a certain amount of artistic liberty was used in making this film; still it appears that Disney has a new major franchise on its hands, although whether Narnia has the staying power of Harry Potter remains to be seen.

The Chronicles of Narnia is an excellent game for the kids. The controls and gameplay are simple, and there is enough variety in the gameplay that will keep things moving along. Boredom is often associated with games that are this simple, but the Chronicles of Narnia tends to mix it up enough to keep things interesting. This game is definitely one that you should pick up for the kids.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe isn't going to make the Top 10 list for best video games of 2005 but does prove to be a refreshingly good -- albeit a bit short -- movie-based game with a dose of ingenuity and plenty of memorable game-play moments for fans and action-adventure gamers alike.

It’s a kid-friendly action-adventure game based on the film adaptation of a classic children’s fantasy with religious overtones. If this short description has you ready to dismiss The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as disposable fluff, you would be doing this fine game an enormous disservice. To be sure, its short length, simple combat, and questionable artificial intelligence keeps it from entering the serious gamer’s short list of 2005 greats.

There is an unwritten law of gaming that requires each big movie to have a game tie-in; it’s just something that has to happen. From the Atari days until now, licensed games have existed and they will probably exist until the end of time. One of the biggest movies this year is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Based on the popular C.S. Lewis novels, Narnia seems like a fitting place for a movie or a game.

Hollywood can recognize a good trend when it sees one, and right now it’s clear that fantasy and wizardry are all the rage. If one thing is clarified by playing The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, it’s that this franchise wouldn’t be receiving the attention it is if it weren’t for the astounding success of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises. Chronicles of Narnia has taken some obvious cues from those powerhouse properties, though I honestly can’t say it’s a bad thing-- the numerous movie clips included are great, but more importantly the game isn’t half bad either.

All in all, The Chronicles of Narnia is a great action-packet adventure game that’s enjoyable for players of all ages. It’s exciting, unique and fresh, while remaining true to the multiple gaming genres that the game covers as well as the movie that it’s based on. So whether you’re a fan of the film, a lover of action, RPG, or adventure games, or both: this game will not disappoint you.

If you are a big fan of the movie, your enjoyment of the game, regardless of its weaknesses, will probably be good. However, if you know nothing of the plot of Narnia, the game may very well become a tedious and confusing encounter.

PlayStation 2Game Chronicles
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is far from perfect, but not as far as the White Witch is from Aslan. It's got a pretty shell of graphics and sound that help the shaky combat system go down more easily, and although it isn't as absorbing as a truly great game, I found myself playing longer sessions than I intended to several times throughout the course of this review. To me, that speaks more about the overall worth of this game than any singly criterion ever could.

XboxExtreme Gamer
Even though the game is intended for a younger audience, I think gamers of all ages can appreciate its strong points. Clear, sharp visuals with beautifully illustrated landscaping and action packed battles, far outweigh the difficulties you can encounter when trying to maneuver your characters. All in all, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is definitely worth putting on your Christmas wish this year.

There’s nothing like watching a Christmas movie, munching on marshmallows and reveling in that all important ‘feel good’ factor as the magical day draws closer. Usually the same cannot be said of games based on these sorts of movies though, so with trepidation we approached Traveller’s Tales interpretation of the movie ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’, the game based on the forthcoming movie.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe has its share of movie clips and real-time sequences. High-quality clips that are better than most in picture quality, have excellent sound, and introduce you to the characters much more effectively than polygons. I can't say for certain how much of the film is spoiled since I haven't seen it yet. Based on the number of film clips that lead into real-time footage (and then gameplay), it seems to be a lot.

The Chronicles of Narnia does have its problems but it also succeeds bringing the movie across to a fairly decent and playable game. Fans of the movie will like it and for those wanting a game they can share with kids or younger siblings, then Narnia is one of the better choices around.

So, if you fit in the category I alluded to earlier, then this game should be top of your list. If you loved the film and wanted a fix, this is the game for you. If you are a reasonably adept player looking for a challenging adventure, you should look elsewhere. And finally, the clincher: if you tick all the boxes but also have a PS2 or Xbox, you may be better off going for one of those versions, purely for the ease of control.

And yet, in spite of all these problems and all the times I threw my controller at the screen while yelling at the fellow Pevensie children for being such dolts, I kept coming back to play. It is engaging, and in parts quite enjoyable. It is also respectably long, and with all the polish and high action, it's a very playable game, although it is most brilliant as an advertisement for the film. And if it makes kids want to read the book, even better. In fact I think I'll go revisit the series this weekend.

While Narnia's far from an award-winning, game, it is enjoyable, and worth playing through, especially if you have kids in the house. At first blush, the packaging would lead you to believe this is noting more than a game about massive battles, but once you start playing, you realize that's one teeny-tiny component of the whole package. If you take the package as a whole, especially taking into account the amazing cutscenes and environments, it's a game well worth playing.

Despite the overall quality of the game, there are a few problems in the land of Narnia. The difficulty can leap to disproportionate heights in a few odd places, and sometimes it can be difficult to realize what needs to be done in order to advance. The between-level load times are also slow, but the greatest concern is the unhelpful and idiotic friendly A.I. that leaves you alone, fending off hordes of attacking wolves while your siblings stand stupidly by. Although it may not match the majesty of the books, The Chronicles of Narnia is still a solid choice for a group of younger gamers.

When I was a kid, we didn’t have any Harry Potter. We had Narnia. I had a ton of Narnia paraphernalia- I had the boxed set of seven books, I had the unabridged audio cassettes of all seven books, and I remember eagerly waiting for the Narnia movies made by Wonderworks to be shown on public television. I have even seen the animated version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, or TCONTLTWATW as we'll call if for short [perhaps 'Narnia' might be snappier -Ed], is hotly tipped to top the gaming charts this Christmas. That isn't surprising, since it's a movie tie-in for a blockbuster film that promises to offer fun for all the family.

Whenever one of the most famous books in the world is turned into a movie, it’s not long before a game appears alongside it, especially from Disney. Narnia is one of the world’s most famous children’s books and CS Lewis classic continues to sell at a high level and enchant child minds around the world. With the big budget movie having just been released, the game is also now available and while it’s not a must have title, it is one of the better movie games of the past year or so.

With the holiday season comes the slew of big-time Hollywood films and their accompanying licensed products. For gamers this means wading through a sea of mediocre movie games aimed at making a quick buck. Thankfully, The Chronicles of Narnia isn't one of these cookie-cutter gaming experiences, although it does fall into a few of the dreaded movie-game cliches (like loads of lengthy clips from the film). Based closely on the movie of the same name (which is, of course, based on C.S. Lewis's classic series of children's books), The Chronicles of Narnia is an enjoyable if unremarkable cooperative action-adventure title that takes its cue from other surprisingly decent, multiplayer movie-to-game adaptations--like Shrek 2.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is a video game based on the just-released film of the same name, which is, in turn, based on the classic book series from C.S. Lewis. The game is a basic fantasy adventure with plenty of puzzle-solving and some light combat. It closely follows the events of the movie and actually uses quite a bit of footage from it to set up and close each stage of the game. As a result, you might not want to play this game until after you've seen the film, lest you run the risk of spoiling the plot. Even if you haven't seen the movie or read the books, you'll still be able to appreciate some of the interesting and varied levels, each of which present unique challenges that require you to utilize the special abilities of each of the four playable characters.

Stories about magical gateways to fantastic lands have been a staple of storytelling and the subject of games for decades, but C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia book series was is one of the best examples of how to do it right. Even though the series has been pigeon-holed as a "children's stories" or "Lord of the Rings for kids" Lewis' classics are appealing across a wide spectrum of age groups.

In the end that’s the source of all of Narnia’s shortcomings. It overemphasizes teamwork and features paper-thin combat to appeal to a younger or more casual audience while at the same time its difficulty curve so steep that it alienates that same demographic. If the movie was guilty of this during test screenings it would be delayed and reworked. It’s too bad the same can’t be said for the game.

Fans of the book and movie will probably find a few things to like about this game, but it's awfully hard to look past some of the game's glaring problems. In a lot of ways this like a kinder, gentler Lord of the Rings game, but at the end of the day it's just another movie game with good, but not great production values. It would have been great to see some of the puzzles fleshed out more and some better fighting mechanics, but the game is what it is. This journey is not essential, but if you feel like you're being called for it, then I suggest you give it a rental and see if it's the type of thing you'll still be interested in when it's over.

Some things are just average. Take the WNBA -- sure, it has solid fundamentals, but not so much with the "razzle dazzle." BVG's adaptation of the upcoming film, The Chronicles of Narnia, falls into that average class. Developed by Travelers Tales, also known for the sublime LEGO Star Wars, this title isn't horrible, but it's not great either. It's got quite a bit going for it, but considering the last outing by this developer, it doesn't live up to what we know they can do.

It’s perhaps easy to get very cynical about film licenses these days, although our hopes had been raised somewhat by the recent and thoroughly decent release of King Kong. Our therefore optimistic eye has since been drawn to the game accompanying the first film in The Chronicles of Narnia series. However, to our disappointment, what meets our gaze is a jagged and monotonous title that relies too heavily on the film it tries so hard to replicate.

Large cats, hook-nosed, wart-infested Wicca devotees and a large wooden box full of clothes is a combination that would normally inspire little but confusion in the average human being.

So there we are, one evening in New Jersey following up on a snowstorm that came and went quicker than a paycheck in Las Vegas, walking away from the cars and towards the movie theater. Our good administration was treating us to a viewing of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Disney's take on the C.S. Lewis literary classic. If you're not familiar with the plot of the book, let me fill you in. Four kids are shipped away from London when it's torn apart by war. They're shipped to a professor's house, where they find a portal to a magical world through a closet filled with coats. That's odd, really. Last time I looked in my closet, all I found were empty beer bottles Oh, and Jimmy Hoffa.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is about four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who – because of the air-raids on wartime London – are sent to the country to live with the stuffy Professor Kirke. Bored, and unable to go outside due to the rain, they play hide-and-seek indoors where the youngest, Lucy, discovers an old closet that is a secret passage to Narnia, a country frozen in eternal winter by the evil White Witch. The icy spell can only be broken by four siblings who, along with the aide of the mighty lion Aslan - the true ruler of Narnia - must now work together to free Narnia from the White Witch.

The difficulty and level design problems are a real shame because when it's good, Narnia is really a lot of fun, but when the designers decided to make it really tough, they managed to sap most of the fun out of what should have been a whimsical action ride through the frozen land of Narnia.

With absolutely no character emphasis on why you're driving through the world of Narnia, with the graphics of a Spyro game and the soundtrack of any game ever created, you'd be better off spending your money on something else. If you're bored on a snowy day and you want something you can bash through with your brother or sister and you're not involved in the movie or book, get this game. It's mindless entertainment if you can wind through the missions without wanting to tear beavers and Narnians apart.

The game is a typical console adaptation of an excellent children's story. It's a combat-driven, token collecting, RPG-lite imitation of a wonderful story reflected through a glass darkly. The movie might be suitable for most children above preschool (it being rated PG in the UK and US), but this game isn't – this is one game where I think the 12+ rating is right. It may be glossy and technically competent (apart from two cut-scene crashes, the first trip to Narnia and the meeting with Father Christmas), and the animation of the characters and beasts might be good, set in decent environments, but so many other aspects of the story are missing. Important things like character motivation and development, and an honest reproduction of the story. Hence the grade below.
