Take a walk on the wild side with Chuck Rock. This game's worth the bucks for the music and graphics alone. from the standpoint of challenge and gameplay, it's middle of the road - not too hard and not too easy.

Commodore 64Zzap!
Both platform and bash-'em-up freaks are well catered for. It's a classic and no mistake, madam.

AmigaThe One
With the program containing over 500 frames of animation in total, there are plenty of 'baddies' to 'belly-butt', or 'fly-kick' with your size 14 feet, ranging from 'blue waddlers' to 'flying bone-birds'. If you don't take your computer too seriously, you fancy a great laugh and lashings of stomping, puzzle-solving and general fun and chaos, then this is definitely the game for you,

Chuck Rock definitely rocks, even though you have to light a fire under him to get him going. So, pull this cart into your cave and have a blast with the past.

The puzzles are a tad easy, and once the controls and timing have been mastered, it's a doddle to cream off the wee beasties. That apart, it's still one heck of a game with the best cartoon graphics I've ever seen. Great fun and Core's best game so far.

SNESGameFan Magazine
Chuck Rock the crusty caveman has belly-butted himself onto the SNES in a new improved version of this popular Virgin title. New music and scrolling backgrounds are some of the things you'll notice, plus all the fiendish traps and puzzles just waiting to make our hairy hero extinct. Chuck Rocks!

AmigaAmiga Action
The 25 levels have had a lot of work put into them and will keep you playing for hours, working out how to overcome each of the many problems. A smashing game and a must for everyone.

A lush, fun and varied platform game, whose zany humour raises it out of the platform game morass. An excellent conversion.

AmigaACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Excellently uses the Amiga to the full, with the game quality never slipping below that of a fully-fledged arcade machine. Let your eyes and ears revel in the sheer wealth of enemy creatures, beautiful parallax backdrops, great jingles and hilarious cartoon-like sound effects. Easily the best platform romp since Rick Dangerous II.

Some games fall flat on their face in overcrowded genres like this one, some games provoke a sort of "yeah, well, tum-de-tum-de-tum", while other entertain you with their original approach and draw you in to the point at which you realise you're a teensy-weensy bit hooked. Chuck Rock falls into the latter category, with the blend of humour, action, mapping and logic slotted together in such a way as to produce a very enjoyable Ice Age romp.

AmigaAmiga Joker

Supremely playable. A brilliant platform game, put together with great care and attention and a feel for character.

AmigaComputer and Video Games (CVG)
Chuck Rock is great with loads of levels to keep you occupied. Unfortunately, the action does tend to get a tad repetitive as the rock-throwing antics do not change that much between each level. Take a look by all means - you won't be disappointed.

We're seeing more of this type of game as the Super NES penetrates the market ever deeper. I'm glad of it. The quality keeps getting better and better. Chuck Rock won't win any awards, but it will reward you with plenty of laughs and some pleasantly wasted hours.

The toughness eventually overshadows the game's personality, however Core have designed a cracking platform epic guaranteed to put players through their paces.

Amiga CD32Amiga Dream

This game is a trip! You control a pot-bellied, cartoon caveman who attacks by bumping his big belly into whatever prehistoric creature gets in his way. Chuck Rock has some hilarious animations, beginning with a caveman rock band on the title screen. The control is very responsive. You can easily bump, kick, pick up things, and throw rocks. You face many dinosaur adversaries (including some large bosses), but some of them actually help you on your quest. For example, a pteridactal might give you a lift over a canyon. The cartoonish graphics are not spectacular, but they are clean, colorful, and have a personality of their own.

I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to purchase Chuck Rock, but if you find it at a yard sale or a used game shop or whatever, it would be a worth addition to your videogame collection.

As I said, back in its day, the game was highly successful and very popular across all the platforms it was ported to. It also saw two successors (Son of Chuck and the Mario Kart clone B.C. Racers). Its incredible fame, however, came in large part due to the stone age fad going on back in the nineties. Take that away, and you have a nice, at times funny little platformer that unfortunately has a few very cheap sections and, once you're able to overcome those, is rather short. I'd recommend having a go, listen to the main theme, and have a short look at the nice graphics. All in all, though, this game is only slightly above average.

I really wasn't expecting much from Chuck Rock CD, but its colorful graphics and decent music helped get over some of the strange gameplay in this fairly short platformer. Sadly, it seems that 2D platformers have nearly become just as extinct as the dinosaurs in this game (except on handheld consoles it seems), so it holds up as a refreshing change of pace. Chuck Rock CD delivers nostalgic hop and bop fun, in a bright carefree world. The strange method of attacking and the short play time hurts the game, but as it stands, Chuck Rock CD is a somewhat rocking trip back in time, even if it only lasts for a short while.
