It's plainly obvious that the Club Football series has been aimed squarely at the fans of the clubs for which a version exists. If you are not a fan of either of the 17 clubs that are listed in the opening paragraph then you're not going to appreciate the specialisation that these games have. The gameplay itself isn't really good enough to warrant a purchase as it has a few flaws that might be hard to live with. However if you are a fan of one of the 17 clubs then you'll overlook the few gameplay flaws and treat the whole package as a nice piece of merchandise for your team.

A good first effort for Codemasters, and we look forward to future football games from the company. Fans of the clubs involved will be good to pick this up, but for everyone else there's Pro Evolution Soccer 3 to keep your attention first and foremost.

It's full time then, and Club Football has missed plenty of chances to take the game, instead PES3 and FIFA beating the newcomers comfortably. But don't get me wrong; what Codemasters have here is a great platform to build on. With a little more detail to the presentation and tighter gameplay Club Football could, just could be challenging for a Champions League place come the start of next season. For now it's third place. Back luck old boy.

Club Football is a welcome new team in the PS2 footy game Premier league, and impressive first try, but that's all it is, the way a game plays and how it makes you feel is everything to us, and CF feels at least two seasons behind Pro Evo in the gameplay stakes.

RELEASING A SOCCER GAME at this time of year when the two big soccer franchises are also releasing their games can seem quite risky. Releasing 17 soccer games at the same time can seem almost ludicrous. That however is exactly what Codemasters have done with their new title Club Football. In an effort to appeal to the more hardcore soccer fan they have released the game branded with one of 17 football clubs from across Europe. Each of these titles comes with the team logo plastered everywhere with the game focus on the respective team. Unlockable bonus footage from the teams greatest moments is also in the package.

Many of the endorsements focus on the realistic player visuals. Yes, the players look lifelike, and this is where the strength of the game lies. Kids and fanatic supporters will by this because of the realistic portrayal of their team, and then they will say it is the best game ever produced. You can also create your own player (yourself) and be part of the team. Kids love that stuff. Such is the blind fanatics mentality. For me, I was looking for a football game that was entertainment, and this wasn't it - and I wasn't too surprised. The game sells itself on true to life reality, and doesn't support that with gameplay. If you are a fan, that might do, but if you are a gamer, you'll want more.
