DescriptionColor Cross Online is the follow-up to the original Color Cross based on the Picross concept. Just like the original game the basic gameplay offers grid based puzzles where players need to colour every cell based on maths. A grid varies in shape and size and has numbers next to horizontal rows and vertical columns. These tell the player how to colour it. For instance, if a row is nine cells long and it has '3-2' next to it, the player knows that row will have five cells of that colour, a line of three and a row of two, with at least one different cell in between. Puzzles usually have two colours or more, so by swapping a colour different numbers are shown. That way, using deduction, the entire puzzle can eventually be coloured in properly. There is a cross tool to mark cells that cannot contain the colour, helping to deduce what to colour next. A guide calls Enzo takes the player through the process in a tutorial.
The biggest change refers to the 'online' part of the title. As a Facebook game it has an extensive layer of social elements to it. There are two types of currencies: paint (regular) and kokos (premium). These are used to acquire additional paint, power-ups that help complete puzzles, puzzle collections based on a certain theme, the customization of the player's avatar, in-game wallpapers and VIP jewels as buffs that provide additional paint and experience for a set amount of time. The game shows the number of players connected and allows them to chat with each other. Further parts of the game and currency such as paint are provided by completing levels, adding to an experience bar that allows the player to level up. It is possible to go on quests, do challenges, and challenge other players to a duel. Every day a new daily puzzle is provided. There is also a treasure hunt. In exchange for one paint, players can select a square on a large treasure map to solve a puzzle with the chance for an additional prize. This is for instance a fortune ticket for a slot machine where additional prizes can be won. Players work together on the large treasure map and can see what others have been doing.
The general puzzles in the game are divided into themes such as animals, patchwork, houshold, sports & leisure and vacation with further divisions for each of them. Painted images in a category then for instance resemble a certain type of animal when completed. Each category also offers a puzzle with a photograph where each completed puzzle provides an additional piece. In the sandbox mode custom puzzles can be designed and shared.
