There are even much better budget titles in the genre than this pathetically bland run-n-gun shooter. Xbox Spartan_234 (422)

Is it a purchase, a rental, or avoid at all costs? For those gamers looking for a tactical shooter that will knock their socks off, break any sort of new ground or redefine anything in this genre, this isn’t the game. But for those that can go into it, not expecting anything more than an average shooter, with average graphics, and low production values…it is worth a rental. While the game only features a $20 price tag, it is hard to recommend as a purchase. There are too many elements of this title that need polish. There is a decent multiplayer option available, so that might intrigue some to buy, but at the most, rent for a break from the late night Halo 2 and DOOM 3 sessions.

When consumers pick up a videogame that has just come out for a price tag of twenty dollars, they’re naturally not going to expect the same type of rewarding experience they would be expecting from a game featuring a premium price point. Of course, there is a possibility that these budget priced videogames can offer a more rewarding experience than a title that will retail for a more costly price point, as we can see clearly from extremely enjoyable budget priced videogames such as Robotech Invasion and Outlaw Golf 2.

So overall is Combat: Task Force 121 worth the $18-$20 it sellsfor? Well probably yes, but maybe no. How’s that for vague? If you havethe extra cash I would say yes because you probably could rent it for$7, so why not just buy it? Personally I would just buy it and play themultiplayer on Xbox Live every once in awhile and it would be worth it.Sure there are a lot of shooters for Xbox Live, but I don’t mind mixingit up every once in awhile. So if you have the extra money, go for it.If you don’t well then save up for something not so average, Combat:Task Force 121 isn’t bad for a budget title, but definitely doesn’tstack up against the big players in the shooter genre.

With that said, it all boils down to this. Even for a budget game Combat 121 just doesn't cut it. Fairly respectable graphics, poor game play, weak puzzle-solving, and lack luster multiplayer modes are probably going to leave this one on store shelves collecting dust long after this review is over. With such a strong line-up of FPS shooters out there I would even be hesitant about recommending this game to enthusiasts of this particular genre. A weak 3 GiN gems is my final score on a game that needs some serious back-up.

Combat: Task Force 121 is a game that seems content to stick closely to the quality of those budget shooters that have come before it. While the online play is merely average at best, its single-player play and its overall production values are seriously subpar. You could certainly say these problems aren't that big of a deal, especially since the game is only $20, but on a platform as rife with multiplayer shooters as the PC, this excuse doesn't really hold much water. In the end, you should take a pass on Combat: Task Force 121.

There are plenty of good value-priced games available, Combat: Task Force 121 just isn't one of them. Simply put, it lacks innovation. The developers seemed satisfied creating a generic shooter with the most rudimentary gameplay. Unless you're new to the genre and are looking for a game that is neither too difficult nor too complicated, you're better off checking out any number of other first-person shooters on a console rich with choices. Dismissed.

Considering the small price of the title, one might be compelled to actually give this game some thought. Regardless, there are tons of titles with a comparable price that hold way more value both online and off. Even though the game isn't totally awful, it isn't reccomended when such games as Rainbow Six 3 and Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix will give you so much more.

The budget price may lure you towards Combat, but devote your money to better games. Encouraging this sub-par budget mentality in the gaming world is only going to breed more. I mentioned Counterstrike as being superior in this genre, but even the now-ancient Team Fortress outdoes Combat at its very own game. Heck, Combat on the Atari 2600 had more excitement and replay value.

Rarely outside of the E-Machine aisle at Best Buy do I see something that screams, “The absolute minimum amount of money was spent in the creation of this product.” Combat – Task Force 121 (even the name is painfully generic), however, is nothing if not budget-conscious. I suppose it might be considered merely painful and not soul-crushingly bad if one completely avoided the vomitous single-player and took it online. That would even be a stretch, though, since the graphics on the Xbox are on par with an N64 title (the PC version looks about as good as a current-gen Xbox title) and the action is as vanilla as can be. This level of sub-mediocre FPS boredom isn’t even close to worth its $20 price point.

Task Force 121 is an ugly looking game. It looks unfinished, like a storyboard. The textures are bulky and blurry and the animated soldiers move like marionettes controlled by someone with Turrets. In its defense, the enemy AI is more intelligent than ones in your average shooter. If they were any more intelligent they would pick up and find a better game to play in. I advise you to do likewise.

What can I say about Combat: Task Force 121 that hasn’t already been said about other, albeit natural, disasters? It’s ugly, it’s painful, and the human cost may well be felt for generations. This is one of these games you play for five minutes and then reverse the charges on your credit card.

Yes, Combat: Task Force 121 is a budget title, but the low price factor can't excuse it from being so poorly developed. especially when stacking up to other budget titles like Phantom Dust & Scrapland. Luckily the Xbox Live portion of the game redeems the game slightly. Overall I suggest you save you cash and look for the real deal, any Tom Clancy FPS will do.

Endlich ein richtig lustiges Spiel! Leider unfreiwillig.
