Description

In the demo version of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, Westwood Studios for the first time included unique content, as opposed to modified missions from the retail game in the demo versions of Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert. The short two-mission GDI campaign acts as a tutorial, demonstrating basic unit control and combat in the first level, and base-building and resource management in the second.

In the demo, the player takes the role of a GDI commander whose task is to thwart the Brotherhood of Nod's efforts to establish a presence in a region. Most basic units and vehicles are available, and the AI likewise uses basic tech units and structures.

It is possible that the demo missions were supposed to ship with the full game, as there are traces in the files that indicate a tutorial campaign was planned. However, this was not done for whatever reason. At any rate, the demo missions make use of special tutorial text strings that are essentially basic hints concerning different aspects of game play. These are displayed as the player progresses through the demo levels.
