Naturally, there are a few minor grips I have with Confidential Mission though mostly from a gameplay point of view. Obviously it helps that you have a light gun to play this game; more so than HOTD2, playing Confidential Mission is a serious pain. Unfortunately, if you have the Japanese DC light gun, Confidential Mission will only work with US third party light guns. While the game has more longevity than most light gun games, there's only so much to unlock. There are some questionable issues I have with the collision detection of the game; occasionally, I'll clearly hit the enemy dead center but the hit will not register. Despite these complaints, if Confidential Mission is to be the last Dreamcast light gun game that shouldn't be the main reason why you decide to pick it up. Terrific visuals, excellent gameplay features, and lots of style will have Dreamcast "agents" uncovering the secrets of Confidential Mission and loving every minute of it.

Face it: If you own a Dreamcast and a gun, then how could you possibly pass up Confidential Mission? Although the length is a bit disappointing, "Another World" and the Agent Academy do help keep things interesting beyond the (very fun) main game. Consider it a very solid sequel to Virtua Cop 2.

Confidential Mission is certainly an enjoyable game. It hosts great graphics and exciting shooting gameplay that you can actually use your long lost light-gun with! It won’t take you long to beat, but you can always play it with a buddy as well, although I don’t understand why your game has to end just because your partner dies (usually he can continue and/or you can continue to play alone). Every Dreamcast owner should give this game a chance, and if you already own a light-gun then there is no reason why you shouldn’t own this title, especially since it retails for only $20.

As mentioned earlier, the game is solid when it comes to its game play which is what matters most; I would recommend picking this up if you're a fan of Sega, into light gun games, or just want to bring the arcade fun home.

Neben "The House Of The Dead 2" ist dieser Titel ganz klar zu empfehlen

Those who loved Sega's previous entries into the light gun genre are going to be quite happy with Confidential Mission. It looks great, sounds great and plays great if you don't mind the complete inability to sometimes avoid getting hit. Boss battles are fun, and the levels themselves are creatively laid out and entertaining to go through several times. Sega's done it again, and if this type of game is up your alley, there is no reason why you won't love it.

If you don’t already own them, Confidential Mission isn’t quite worth running out to buy a pair of light guns. By the same token, if you don’t have the light guns, there’s no reason to buy Confidential Mission — meaning this game is best purchased by those who’ve mastered and tired of House of the Dead 2. Essentially, this title is held back from universal appeal by its unwillingness to go beyond the established standards and actually offer anything new. Instead, the same point and shoot action that fueled Duck Hunt‘s popularity so many years ago is recreated here, which makes the action seem slightly dated. Even the several year-old zombie fest featured multiple paths through the game, a mechanic aspired to but never really achieved by this spy thriller. Despite these criticisms, it must be said that for those with the necessary hardware, Confidential Mission is one heck of a good time, and it offers fast-paced and frantically entertaining gameplay.

You can't escape the feeling that games of this ilk have no real future in the single player arena. Even in multiplayer, unless you own two light guns (and lets face it, who does), you'll rarely get full enjoyment out of it. The final levels are virtually impossible to complete with a gamepad (I managed it only once in nearly a week's solid play), so unless you buy another gun, Confidential Mission will be as short-lived as the voice-acting career of whoever played Howard Gibson. Our recommendation is that you buy a second hand copy of House of the Dead 2 - Confidential Mission is only a mite better than that anyway.

Although there's some minor branching, the game is fairly linear and surprisingly short. And like most light gun games, it can get repetitive. It's not a standout game, but if you're looking to get some use out of your Dreamcast light guns, Confidential Mission isn't a bad buy.
