Airborne Ranger.

But all the gripes really seem insignificant when you consider how much we enjoyed the game and how well it plays whether it's with 1, 2, 3 or 4 players, in large deserts, hilly canyons areas or interior sections, C:DS is an amazingly playable, adaptable and atmospheric game, and we can't wait for the sequel due later this year (Desert Sabre).

Some missions sometimes have alternative routes so when you’re playing it doesn’t have to be exactly the same as last time. There are also many medals to be won, including the Victoria Cross (SAS) and Medal of Honor (Delta Force). Getting them all for everyone will be quite a challenge. The game also offers three difficulty levels. But co-operative is where a lot of the life span lies. Conflict: Desert Storm is currently the ultimate co-operative game. It should keep you going for awhile.

The single player takes about 13 to 15 hours to complete depending on how you go about it. If you go for the stealth option it will take a lot longer. There are two teams, SAS and Delta Force, so it’s well worth replaying as the other because they both have different skills and weapons. Conflict: Desert Storm is an acquired taste. The opening movies hooks you and the training missions make the game seem innocent enough. Once you start playing however, the true nature of just how difficult this game really is become quickly apparent. This is not a game to be approached by the casual action gamer.

Once you start playing however, the true nature of just how difficult this game really is become quickly apparent. This is not a game to be approached by the casual action gamer. There is a lot of strategy, planning, and even some character building required to achieve maximum effectiveness and mission success. For those of you prepared for the challenge, Desert Storm delivers an excellent combat simulation experience set against an historic event that many gamers will be able to relate to either directly or indirectly.

Conflict: Desert Storm is without a doubt, the best war game on Xbox so far. It is very strategic, and levels are supposed to be based on what actually happened in the war where Iraq invaded Kuwait. So if you're a war fanatic, give this game a hire at first. And make sure it's at a time when you have 1, 2, or 3 friends over. Conflict: Desert Storm has set a new standard for multiplayer war games, and I can't wait to go over to my mates place to compare the Xbox version to the PS2 version. I think this is just another game that will prove that the box has got more grunt!

Overall, I found Conflict: Desert Storm a very fun team shooter. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for some arcade team-based gameplay, which flows real nice and it's addictive enough to keep you going till you finish the single-player portion. Sure, there were a few annoying design solutions I omitted to mention in the review, like the fact that you can't assign a specific button to switch between different firing modes (single-shot mode comes in real handy when the enemy is far away), but those are really negligible and don't take away from the game's dynamics. Conflict: Desert Storm is by no means a trend-setter, nor it is a revolutionary game. It's just several familiar gameplay concepts nicely polished and wrapped up together into a decent bundle of arcadish virtual entertainment.

Conflict: Desert Storm is a vivid depiction of modern warfare. The desert environment quickly becomes oppressive and there really isn't any variety in the colours used onscreen, but realism is the order of the day here. There isn't much red in Desert Storm because there generally aren't many red things in the desert. The first time a sandstorm blows in and you're lost in a brown haze, the realism of the game kicks in. This isn't real war, but it's as close as you'll get from your armchair.

Conflict: Desert Storm is an impressive effort from Pivotal. If the engine had more spit and polish to raise the realism bar higher, then we'd be close to a title that could become a firm favourite with the tactical action clique. It doesn't look too hot up against the graphical might of the Ghost Recon engine, yet we can still imagine Red Storm becoming a little nervous at the presence of this one. If you can forgive the whimsical visuals, then give it a spin - at least it's a rare opportunity for those of you stuck with low-spec systems to play something of true quality.

Conflict: Desert Storm is nothing for you if you want a game with a high realism degree (titles such as Ghost Recon) and unexpected events . Conflict : Desert Storm mostly has its missions outdoors, so it maybe lack a bit in variety, but after all it is based on Operation Desert Storm. However, if you are more the arcade type of guy, like games that are easy to start with, want a lot of action but dont want a game that will require you to look in the manual and perhaps enjoy playing console games, GO GO GO for it, this game has your name all over it! In general the game is just above average but the excellent AI gives it a big push in the back and adds to the score.

It occupies a special place in the Xbox library as the first game of its kind on Microsoft's console and for this reason is definitely worth a long look for those of you with money to spare before the big holiday rush of games. But the truth is, there are bigger name bigger budget titles just around the corner for those of you who can wait to get your tactical shooting on and it won't be too late to go back and get Conflict Desert Storm if we see they all measure up evenly.

I like Conflict: Desert Storm. This is a surprisingly fun, intelligent little squad-based shooter that's made all the better on GameCube. The control mechanics feel a bit first-person shooterish, which for some reason works, and while manipulating squad members is unintuitive at first I eventually figured it out and now it's second nature. Fun level design, intriguing objectives, and a whole slew of weapons that'd make any Army nut cry in joy all come together. Some of the AI could use work, yes, and while portions of the game look good, other areas seem like something out of a Dreamcast game. But it's still enjoyable, and the cooperative mode is not to be missed.

Despite its rough edges, there is a certain appeal to Conflict: Desert Storm. The squad-based tactics are a nice twist on the typical "one man army" theme that so often prevails in this genre and the multiplayer co-op mode adds depth to what would otherwise be a solitary experience. It isn't Counter-Strike, but it is a good way to waste an evening or two. Conflict: Desert Storm is a perfect choice for an extended weekend rental.

The problem Conflict: Desert Storm is going to face is that it really won’t be able to find an audience. Though the game has some fun slow-paced gameplay, it isn’t really intense enough for hardcore FPS fans, and it’s not as strategically built for fans of squad-based mission games like Rainbow Six. But if you think you’d like Conflict: Desert Storm’s slow-paced gameplay, and you think you can deal with some minor discrepancies, then go ahead and check out Conflict: Desert Storm. Who knows? Maybe you were the audience Pivotal Games was thinking of when they created this wayward title.

Conflict Desert Storm is a solid single player game, with an exceptionally good 2 player co-operative mode. The unwieldy inventory system and the poor enemy AI do not detract from the overall experience, but the lack of link-up or Xbox Live support stop the game from being in the upper echelon of the Xbox library. With this game being amongst the first on Xbox to attempt to deliver a deeper, more tactical combat game than the more run of the mill first person shooters, it is a notable achievement but it isn't a must have.

PlayStation 2Game Critics
Although its not quite up to its potential, Conflict: Desert Storm is still a unique game with strong squad AI and excellent level design. Only a handful of questionable design decisions and unpolished enemy AI bog down the otherwise fast-paced, challenging gameplay. A well-done cooperative multiplayer mode is included, but unfortunately there is no competitive multiplayer which, given the great execution of the squad AI, would be very exciting. With America on the verge of reviving its feud with Saddam Hussein, this game is even worth playing just for the timely novelty. If our nation ends up creating source material for a sequel, perhaps Pivotal Games can iron out the kinks in a mostly solid armor.

A solid graphics and sound package does help Conflict?s theatre of operations, though. An armory of nice-looking authentic weapons that Delta Force and SAS handled during their desert battles can be used, while character animations are fluid and lifelike. Gunfire effects and intense background music play well with the game, too. Though Conflict: Desert Storm doesn?t compare to other warlike games in the same genre, the title is still worth a weekend rental.

There is no doubt, Conflict: Desert Storm has some faults, but it also takes an enormous amount of strategy. For example, you may want to use a rocket launcher on a tank, but that would give away your squad’s position and waste ammo. Instead, you may choose to have your sniper get in position to take out troops, send in the man carrying C4, place the C4 on the tank, blow the tank to shreds and snipe the remaining soldiers with your sniper. Overall, Conflict: Desert Storm didn't impress me with visuals or A.I. capability, but did impress me with the deep level of strategy and team work needed to accomplish your mission.

Until now, things don't sound too bad, so beyond a few caveats, what's the problem? One word: control. Moving about is blocky and artificial at best, but get down on all fours and the problems really begin. With one analog stick each for forward and lateral movement, controlling a prone soldier becomes its own mini-game. Pressing L brings up a first-person aiming mode, but it's clumsy and very unresponsive. When firing in third-person there's an auto-aim system of sorts, but it fails as often as not. I found that it was a lot easier to maneuver my men into firing position and let the AI go to town. The level of difficulty is already relatively high, so a negative interface handicap turns the setting from challenging (good) to futile (bad). Teamed with the sometimes extraordinary perception of the enemy AI, moving undetected can be impossible. Again, the realism card pops up, but this seems more along the lines of unintentional comedy.

If you want a good wartime shooter, Medal of Honor: Frontline is far superior to Desert Storm. Look at that - I just saved you $40.

After Red Storm beauties like Raven Shield and Splinter Cell, and even more recent efforts like Vietcong, Conflict: Desert Storm on the GameCube is a pretty embarrassing release. There's quite a nice game in there, but thanks to the terrible shortcomings outlined above it does little to justify your time and expense when lined up against the competition. Then again, there aren't many tactical action games on the Cube that will do you better than this one, it just boils down to how desperate you are for a fix.

Conflict is not without its merits the atmosphere is excellent, and the GameCube version lets you restart a mission easily if you're in an impossible situation and a sufficiently tactical-minded person will get mounds of fun out of this with a little perseverance. If you played SOCOM for the chat, however, then you'll probably abandon this game early on.

Conflict: Desert Storm is a dangerous mission, but I'm sure you'll be able to handle it. Despite its flaws, it certainly puts up a good fight...though I'm sure you'll find it to be just another mission among the many you've completed before. That's all for now. Dismissed.

In the final analysis, there is no reason to buy this game unless you have a real hard-on for the Middle East. If you’re into these types of games, it’s probably worth a rent, but there are many better games on the market. The sequel could turn out to be good if the original’s problems are fixed, but as it stands now, Conflict: Desert Storm isn’t worth much of your time.
55
PlayStation 2IGN
Conflict's biggest problem, as I say, is the availability of a much better alternative. If SOCOM weren't out there offering a similar experience, with tighter design, a greater variety of mission concepts, and online multiplayer, it would be easier to recommend. As it is, however, its flaws stand out more sharply. If Sony's game doesn't offer enough military action for you, this is a good second choice, but probably not a first one.

Conflict: Desert Storm has a couple of neat ideas, and it benefits from being one of the only games of its kind to appear on the GameCube. But the interface and poor control are bigger enemies than the game's Iraqi soldiers ever are, and in the end, this is a game you can surely live without.
48
WindowsGamingExcellence
Overall, Conflict: Desert Storm is severely lacking in many critical areas, generally a disappointment as the title comes off as a near direct port of its console brothers. Mediocre graphics, a horribly inefficient and frustrating interface, combined with an overall lack of polish set this one back a few years, something that you may want to look over when browsing through the shelves, even if it's in the bargain bin.

Desert Storm has a couple of neat ideas, and it's among the first Xbox games to attempt to deliver deeper, more tactical combat than, say, your standard first-person shooter. Conflict: Desert Storm is a military-themed tactical third-person shooter set in the Middle East during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and the resulting Operation: Desert Storm. It puts you in charge of up to four troops at once, and while the squad element opens up some interesting strategic possibilities, the game fails to compete with other, similar PC games. Its problematic gameplay and run-of-the-mill presentation keep it from succeeding on any level.
45
PlayStation 2GameSpot
Conflict: Desert Storm has a couple of neat ideas, and it's one of the few PlayStation 2 games to attempt to do tactical combat. It even has a multiplayer mode, though it feels like it was tossed in as an afterthought. With games like SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs on the market, there's really no room for something as sloppy as Conflict: Desert Storm, and you'd be better off without it.

WindowsCanadianGamer
For everything Conflict has going for it, there are simply too many things that go wrong in this game. Things from the voice problems to the graphical errors all add up, and in the end ruin any enjoyment you could have gotten out of the game. Couple that with the fact that SCi and Gotham Games have not supported the PC version since its release, and you have a disaster of a title. If you're looking for a good military shooter go out and buy a quality title like Operation Flashpoint, Ghost Recon or any one of the Rainbow Six titles. Otherwise, save your money for something more worthwhile because you won't be missing out on anything here.
