DescriptionCriminal Case is a law enforcement-themed puzzle solving game originally dedicated as a Facebook application game.
The player takes on the role of a police officer in the Grimsborough Police Department, helping to solve series of cases by investigating crime scenes to uncover clues and evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, while working together with crime laboratory. The purpose of the game is to solve the immediate case, by solving various puzzles and riddles. Solving a case will allow the player access to the next chapter and a new case to solve, if requirements are met.
The game offers a puzzle game translation of a crime investigation of various forms. These puzzles during and when completed, will offer clues, leads, and even evidence, to help the player further progress in the case. The in-game tablet will inform the player of the case progression and tasks that need to be completed. Additionally, most puzzle games reward the player with points, experience, and other bonuses. Solving a case will reward the player with a bronze medal. Additional cases in the same chapter (location) may optionally be pursued to attained other medals. If the player levels up, new cases in other chapters will be unlocked. Trophies (achievements) are also awarded to the player if they have successfully fulfilled certain requirements. The following are some puzzle games the player may come to expect in the game:
- Hidden Object Games
The majority of puzzles consist of hidden object games, usually located in a crime scene, although not all crime scene puzzles are hidden object games. Investigating a crime scene requires 20 energy, which will replenish as time passes. The player may bring in one human partner (or one non-player character i.e. Jones) to help solve the case. This partner, depending on their own progression in the game, may offer up to five hints to help the player. The crime scene hidden object game names a list of objects that the player must find, one or more of which may be a key clue in solving the case.
Points will be awarded for successfully completing any crime scene puzzle, which if accumulated, will reward the player with stars, a requirement needed to unlock new scenes in the player's tablet. Although the crime scene puzzle need only be completed once, the player may continuously replay the puzzle to gain points and stars. A maximum of five starts may be acquired per crime scene. A scoreboard recording the highest points ever achieved in the crime scene between the player and online friends will be displayed after the completion of this puzzle.
- Mini Puzzles
Various other minor puzzles exist during the progress of the investigation: mini games involve use of the forensic kit in analyzing evidence, the process of interviewing or viewing suspects, etc. Also, some crime scene levels of example, have a jigsaw puzzle.
