ST Crystal Castles is as addictive as ever and shouldn't be missed by any self-respecting ST arcade freak.
ZX SpectrumACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Ultimately pointless yet totally unputdownable arcade entertainment.

Overall, I give this game a big thumbs up. If I had to choose between the 2600 and ST version and the Atari 800 version. I would definitely choose the 800. It’s just a fun platform to play games on and this is a very good port of the arcade game. The similarity of the 800 chipset and the arcade probably helps a great deal too. This game is considered somewhat rare, but if you can purchase it from somewhere, you can’t go wrong with Crystal Castles.

The smooth control apparatus is easy to learn, but hard to master. This is a beautiful game with memorable characters, catchy music and addicting gameplay.
Atari STThe Games Machine (UK)
Generally, this Andromeda conversion is very close to the look of the original arcade game. At first control is a little difficult - diagonals always put joysticks to the test - but there's a mouse option and a good two-player mode as well. Though gameplay is obviously dated now, a lot of work has been put into it making it much more enjoyable than more recent versions of this idea such as Spidertronic. Great fun.
Commodore 64Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Murky (but very fast) graphics, nice jingles and even the secret warps from the arcade game. Good fun.
Atari 2600The Video Game Critic
Making matters worse are the flat "gems" that are awfully hard to pick up. I had to settle for using a joystick, and that's a shame. On the bright side, the sound effects are faithful to the arcade, and there are eight difficulty levels.
ZX SpectrumComputer and Video Games (CVG)
A tidy arcade conversion, playable enough to keep you occupied for an hour or two.

Atari STComputer and Video Games (CVG)
Although this conversion is a little rough around the edges, it has all the features and gameplay of the original, and is therefore highly enjoyable. Whether or not it's worth £15 entirely depends on how much you liked the arcade game.

Atari STST Action
With its main character being a cute little teddybear, you might think that Crystal Castles would be a hit with the kids, but of little appeal to anyone else. But, on the contrary, the gameplay is taxing enough to keep even the most zealous game player amused. Graphically, Crystal Castles is perhaps the most attractive game in this series. Combine this with the addictive qualities of multi-level arcade entertainment, and Crystal Castles is a cute game in every respect.

An average variation on Pac-Man, if Mastertronic came out with this would be an average game for them, and you could either take it or leave it. But a full priced game from a company as highly regarded as US Gold, with a reputation for bringing over the best of American and sourcing some of the best of British (I'm still drooling over Gauntlet!). Come off it, perhaps on the budget Americana label (perhaps), or as an extra on a compilation. But full price! Never!

A dull, expensive, 3D, software legend. What's next in this exciting series? My money's on Pong!
