Dave Mirra should be available as soon as you read this and retails for 39.99, after you buy Dave Mirra save up for Mat Hoffman, believe me your going to want both games.

But overall, Dave Mirra BMX is a really good game. The levels are big and well laid out. The single player Quest mode offers interesting challenges, and the two-player mode is extremely competitive. It may not be a Tony Hawk, but it sure ain't a poser.

Neben dem fordernden, jedoch leicht zu beherrschenden Gameplay sorgen vor allem die zahllosen erspielbaren Extras dafür, dass ihr Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX immer wieder gerne in die Hand nehmt. Der passende Soundtrack mit Titeln von Cypress Hill, Pennywise und den Deftones trägt ein Übriges zum gelungenen Eindruck bei. Einzig die auch in der DC-Version etwas lieblose Grafik der Strecken enttäuscht doch etwas...

Sure, it might not control with laser precision like Hawk does, and it might have a lot of borrowed ideas, but on the whole I found the game to be highly enjoyable. While the Playstation version seems awful and ugly, the DC port is a worthy addition to just about any gamer's library. You'd be doing yourself a favor to at least give it a rental.

Striking an innovative blow, the game actually tracks how high you fly, and get this, how long your skid marks are. These highly coveted stats are recorded for all to see. If not for the loose gameplay chemistry, this title would have all the sugar and spice. The visuals are nothing short of stunning, and the game offers plenty of interesting rewards ranging from new bikes and clothing to sponsorship deals and action-packed video clips. Overall though, an unsympathetic difficulty is greatly needed.

Steuerung und Grafik sind ähnlich gut wie bei Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, das insgesamt jedoch noch einen Tick abwechslungsreicher ist und die ausgefalleneren Spielmodi bietet.

I knew there was going to be a BMX game using the Tony Hawk formula, I just didn’t expect it to come from Acclaim. Freestyle BMX is a fun little romp with interesting level design and goals, but it doesn’t come together quite right. For me, what detracts most from the entertainment value is the loose trick-landing requirements and the magically magnetic pegs that suck you toward distant ledges when you grind. There are some original and fun ideas here, though, and if Z-Axis were given a second chance to tighten up the engine and add some gameplay tweaks, this game could be a serious competitor for the Neversoft games it attempts to emulate.

Un titre sympathique même s'il ne parvient pas à faire un parcours sans faute. En dehors de sa réalisation correcte, son faible niveau de réalisme devient rapidement pénible. Il n'en demeure pas moins un soft divertissant permettant de passer quelques agréables moments.

Tony Hawk hat mehr Tiefgang und abwechslungsreichere Level. Aber für Extremsport-Einsteiger ist Dave Mirra eine attraktive Alternative. Der BMX-Simulator ist wesentlich gnädiger als die Skateboard-Konkurrenz. Seine Stärken: klare Spielziele, gutes Tempogefühl und hübsche Manöver gelingen mit relativ wenig Aufwand. Leider zerrt der Fluch der Konsolen-Umsetzung die Grafik ins Mittelmaß und über die Langzeit-Motivation kann man streiten - hier triumphiert Tony Hawk dank Park-Editor und enormer Geheimnisdichte. Aber als flotter BMX-Vertreter, der mit Erfolgserlebnissen und kleinen Belohnungen nicht geizt, ist Dave Mirra eine willkommene Bereicherung.

To its credit, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX introduces some new elements to the extreme sports subgenre. Unfortunately, the game has a number of both major and minor flaws.

The only major flaw in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX is that the game is a touch on the easy side. Once you've grasped the game's control scheme, it'll be a day or two before you've completed all of the game's challenges. As such, this is one you'll likely want to rent first.

Just like all other extreme sports games, this one is worth having because of the soundtrack. Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX uses mostly punk/HC sound, as could be seen from the list of performers (spot the intruder): Sublime, Rancid, Social Distortion, Deftones, Primer, Pennywise, Dropkick Murphys, 59 Times the Pain, Swingin' Utters, Cypress Hill... That's about it... I really have nothing more to add on this game. I found it modestly fun because I'm a fan of extreme sports games, but it sure as hell doesn't live up to the hyped-up ad. campaign phrases, like that: "Memorial Day America is Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX!"

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX tries its hardest to imitate Tony Hawk 2. From the features to the gameplay to the music selection, Dave Mirra comes so close but never surpasses the competition. It's still a good game, it's just not Tony Hawk. And because of all the similarities between the two games, we can't segregate the two extreme sports titles. Unless you have a need to watch BMX tricks and bikers, just go and pick up Tony Hawk 2.

Ein grafisches Highlight ist dieser Titel bestimmt nicht, da ist die Spielbarkeit doch eher überzeugend. Hat man die Palette an Tricks erst einmal drauf, ist die Sache schon recht witzig. Die originalen Sportler und ihre Tricks sind recht gut dargestellt, auch die verschiedenen Parks sind abwechslungsreich. Dennoch, ein langer Spielspaß ist nicht garantiert. Da wohl so ziemlich jeder BMX-Fahrer auch mal Sk8board gefahren ist, Tony Hawk´s Skateboarding ist die bessere Alternative. Fazit: Für Fans schon mal zu empfehlen.

Au final, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX s'avère particulièrement décevant en ne bénéficiant pas de la réalisation qu'il aurait très probablement mérité. S'il parait en effet tout à fait alléchant sur le papier, il se révèle en réalité très insuffisant tant ce qu'il nous dévoile parait à certains égards incohérent et risque de créer des réactions épidermiques chez les adeptes et les connaisseurs de ce sport. Par bonheur les possibilités offertes par ce titre sont bien plus satisfaisantes et permettront en mode deux joueurs de s'affronter sur une dizaine d'épreuves différentes.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX aurait pu reprendre le flambeau d'une série qui triomphe encore au box-office des meilleures ventes de jeux vidéos : les Tony Hawk. Malheureusement, le principe quasiment similaire appliqué au deux-roues ne suffit pas à surprendre et la réalisation moyenne ne permet pas au jeu de se démarquer de son concurrent direct. Portage pur et simple de la version PlayStation assez linéaire en mode carrière et en gros manque d'innovations, le roi de la bicyclette acrobatique n'est décidément pas à la hauteur du dieu de la planche... à roulettes bien sur.

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX n'est pas passé très loin du Hit, avec sa prise en main aisée, sa très grande richesse acrobatique, et ses nombreux bonus à gagner. Hélas, ses défauts de réalisation flagrants (animations autres qu'acrobatiques, modélisation un peu grossière et textures souvent malvenues) et le manque de variété des épreuves en solo gâchent le plaisir de jeu. Quitte à emprunter une très grande part des principes qui ont fait le succès de la série des Tony Hawk, Acclaim aurait dû aller jusqu'au bout de l'"inspiration"...
