The game will take you somewhere along 10-15 hours but there is reason to return to a new game in which you keep all your nodes and weapons and get a new super suit if you can afford it. Trophies will keep the perfectionists busy as they require more than a couple of play-throughs to earn that coveted platinum trophy. I for one cannot wait to see what other new IPs EA will throw at us over time and after seeing this game succeed I want to see what EA Redwood specifically will surprise us with. Dead Space would be a great game no matter who made it, but I'm more impressed with it since it's coming out of EA. That bastion of the annualized sequel is finally taking some risks with original games, if not always original ideas, and in this case the risk paid huge dividends. You've probably seen most of Dead Space's parts in other games from time to time, but you've rarely seen them assembled this well.

Dead Space is the type of game that people will talk about five years from now about just how good it really was. The experience itself is more than worth the price of admission and when you throw in the fact that the game executes nearly flawlessly on so many levels it is hard not to recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good horror/action title. There are very few games that capture your imagination and immerse you into the experience as well as Dead Space does and for that I have already tapped it as one of my top five for the year and strong candidate for game of the year. If you have even the slightest interest in the genre you owe it to yourself to play Dead Space.

With the heavy-hitting holiday season just beginning, I didn’t expect to have already experienced something this good. It may be slightly premature, seeing we have so many big titles coming down the pike the next couple of months, but right now Dead Space easily grabs my top spot for game of the season. Amazingly atmospheric visuals and mood-setting sound work are complemented by some of the goriest and original creature creations I’ve seen in a while (and I just recently played through Silent Hill: Homecoming, a title that’s tough to top in the “bizarre monsters” category). All this would be enough to make for a stellar survival horror romp, but toss in a truly engaging, twist-heavy story with some surprising emotional weight, and you’ve got a franchise with a future that all others in the genre should be worried about.

So with all this to say Dead Space is a definite addition to any library. Consider it to be a mix between Bioshock and Gears of War with a few additions. The dismemberment system will make sure there’s plenty of ways for you to kill enemies. So if you’re looking for a new game to add to your library and hold you over until Gears of War 2 then head down to your local gaming store and pick it up.

I've never been huge on the survival horror genre. The (pre-RE4) Resident Evil games had great jump-out-of-your-seat scares, but suffered from some wooden controls. Silent Hill had a great psychological uneasiness about it, but the gameplay wasn't quite up to par. Dead Space may borrow heavily from various inspirations, but it puts everything together in a fantastic, terrifying package. It easily stands up to the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Bioshock, and I can only hope we'll have many sequels to come.

Dead Space is a potent combination of visceral glee and intense terror. The atmosphere is palpable, the combat is exciting and fun, the presentation values are off the chart, and even the narrative is top notch. EA's first survival horror titles is fine example of what can happen when you let a team of talented individuals work on a project that they're genuinely passionate about. This is the next generation of survival horror. Let's see if Resident Evil 5 can keep up.

The creature design is solid. Even if they are all really just blood-stained cousins, they each have unique attacks and quirks to watch for. Some of the more robust enemies even spew smaller creatures, which either scurry towards you or fire projectiles. The simple neon-blue line that pops up, by clicking the right-stick, to point you toward your current objective is a nice touch that keeps you from getting lost in the twisty corridors. Dead Space is essentially your opportunity to play through a sci-fi horror flick; which is just about every gamer’s fantasy. It is a near-perfect package for those looking for to get their survival horror fix.

Dead Space represents the current pinnacle of evolution in the survival-horror genre, taking everything that has worked, and nothing else. If you are a fan of spooky sci-fi horrors and have previously enjoyed games such as Bioshock, Doom or Resident Evil, then Dead Space for the Xbox 360 should be right up your alley. Dead Space is an ambitious effort - but sometimes it feels too ambitious. The "zero gravity" areas absolutely suck. While freely floating through a chamber is original in concept, the clumsy controls and bewildering camera angles make it feel like an ordeal. In general, Dead Space's controls are complicated as hell, with many critical functions mapped to combinations of shoulder and face buttons (L1 and X to reload, for example). Dead Space isn't perfect but it's one of the most intense shooters I've played in quite a while. I dare you to turn out the lights as you play this one.

Dead Space is most frightening when you’re backed into a corner and fighting for your life in the darkness, and absolutely awe-inspiring during the quiet moments of solitude. From major elements like the HUD-less display and the believably intricate machinery to the simplicity of a forgotten magazine, the attention to detail is absolutely staggering. The heavily scripted encounters and linear story mean that it is only good for one time through, but it’s an experience that will stick with you for years to come.

In the end, I can say there will only be a handful of gamer types who won't appreciate what Dead Space has to offer. Either you don't like horror games/movies, you want multiplayer action, or you have no inner kid in you that allows you to be scared and let your imagination run away with you. If you meet any of these above criteria, you won't "get" Dead Space. That being said, this is the most fun I've had being scared in a video game since I first encountered the 'dog scene' in Resident Evil. The game is very pretty, draws you in with it's sound, atmosphere, and story, plays wonderfully, and is diverse enough from chapter to chapter where you feel like you are not playing similar missions (like Assassin's Creed). I can't recommend Dead Space enough; it is already up for my GOTY vote, and with a crowded line up of games coming soon, that is a bold statement.

The combat is dynamic and rarely gets old during the entire campaign. There are enough scary moments to warrant a good time for horror enthusiasts. Fans of 3rd person action games should enjoy the cool weapons and tools on offer, as well as the diversity of enemies. The AI, unlike many recent releases, works very well and is extremely persistent in tearing Isaac's body to shreds before letting him to escape. It's a solid challenge altogether, throwing a few interesting boss fights into the mix as well.

Dead Space is not exactly revolutionary. What it is, however, is a clever, beautiful, and exciting game. And above all, it's a hell of a blast to play. I think it's worth mentioning that there had been numerous times on my first playthrough where I thought, "Okay, if this was your average game, such-and-such is bound to happen right about now. So let the zombie face-pouncing commence." And the game proved me wrong almost every single time. Revolutionary or not, it's most definitely not your average game, and everything it tries to do it does exactly right, without having to rely on cheap tricks to make things work.

So go on and buy it. Because if you learn from Isaac Clarke's example, and all of a sudden monsters from a strange alien dimension eat your neighbor's cat and piss in your teacup, you'll be able to ruin their shit in a heartbeat.

Concentrated adrenaline comes whisked together with intricate level design and haunting atmosphere in Dead Space, which will probably pop up on many a Game of the Year list later this year. But, much like a lot of horror movies being released nowadays, it succeeds based off of influence instead of ingenuity; instead of feeling truly distinct, it takes that work in the genre and exploits every ounce of it in a way that unnerves and rattles the horror-survival genre's nerves to new levels. Dead Space doesn't redesign the wheel to operate any different, but boy does it make it fire down the row with gasp-worthy speed. Plunging into the Ishimura, weaving through space's varied environmental challenges, and emptying clip after clip of pulse / plasma charges on some of the more impressively chilling enemy models yet of this generation makes Dead Space a Highly Recommended experience worth enduring -- at least once.

While it's not perfect—item management, and control issues with trying to aim asteroid-destroying cannons, are just a few nitpicks—Dead Space is certainly one of the most solid, satisfying games of the year. Entertaining and scary elements make up a game that is familiar in its theme and within its genre, but it's also a title that has destructive weaponry, a necessity for skilled gunplay, and zero-G believability.

While Dead Space doesn’t fully reinvent the survival horror genre, it does take familiar elements and cobble them together to create a new and exciting game that has a lot of potential. The Resident Evil series reinvented itself in its fourth installment, and Dead Space takes its cue from what worked in that title, adds its own flavoring and actually throws a shout back to the game-design choices of the original RE to create a survival horror game that should not be missed. This is one of the most engaging titles of the year, a scary and exciting thrill ride that takes us to some familiar destinations, but always finds new and exciting ways through which to view them.

Letzten Endes kann ich euch die PC-Fassung absolut empfehlen. Dead Space ist das Horror- und Splatter-Fest geworden, das ich mir im letzten Jahr von Clive Barker's Jericho erhofft hätte. Also Leute, greift zu!

There is so much in Dead Space to mention that doing so would make this review very, very long. Puzzles using Kinesis and Stasis, timed events in airless zones, spacewalks across an asteroid-ridden hull, enough enemies to never leave players comfortable. If not for the submissive, cliché’d last two hours of the story and the un-dramatic terror-inducing scenes, Dead Space would be a rich, enthusiastic game for anyone to enjoy. Yes, its over-dramatized sound may startle the neighbors, but with so much packed into one game, missing it would be much, much scarier.

Dead Space is definitely worth the price of admission. Its atmospheric setting, brutal and gory combat, insanely good graphics and sound, well thought out story and the ability to kick babies (no lie) make Dead Space a game well worth checking out this Halloween season. Don't expect to be scared out of your wits, but do expect to have a good time playing it.

EA Redwood Shore has done an amazing job of not only introducing a whole new IP, but blending genres together to create something that’s really unique. The game feels like a big budget Hollywood horror movie, while still packing the punch of an action shooter. There really aren't very many titles like Dead Space out there, making it stand out among a sea of titles that are all very similar to each other and titles that have come before. Kudos to EA for taking a chance and bringing to gamers one of the must play titles of this fall season. Dead Space is a game you definitely are not going to want to miss.

Es hat wirklich Spaß gemacht. Obwohl zu Beginn des Spiels die Auswahlmöglichkeiten sehr begrenzt aussahen, wurden wir am Ende vollends überzeugt. Die Grafik ist wirklich Hammer und das ganze Aussehen erzeugt schon die benötigte Grundatmosphäre für das Genre. Und wenn dann noch die Gegner und die Schockmomente kommen, fühlt man sich wie in einem Horrorfilm. Untermalt wird das Ganze dann noch von einer richtig guten Musik. Auf Soundtracks wird dabei verzichtet, denn die Entwickler setzten sehr auf den Einsatz verzerrter Instrumente um euch auf Schocker vorzubereiten, die dann manchmal kommen und manchmal nicht. Und gerade deshalb funktioniert das Spiel so gut. Es ist nicht ausrechenbar und man muss ständig mit allem rechnen.

Wie zu erwarten war, ist Dead Space eine Granate geworden. Was die Entwickler hier an technischer Präsentation austeilen, ist eindeutig erstligareif. Die spacige Atmosphäre der Ishimura, Zombiealiens und die Gewaltszenen sind wie aus einem guten Horrorstreifen entliehen. Da verzeiht man gerne fehlende Innovationen, Backtracking und das relativ kurze Hauptspiel. Die Passagen in der Schwerelosigkeit und der Einsatz von Psi-Kräften integrieren sich tadellos in das Game. Taktische/Stressige Kämpfe und der gezielte Einsatz unzähliger Liter Blut, ist allerdings nichts für Leute mit schwachen Nerven. So brutal und martialisch inszeniert wie Dead Space waren Videospiele selten. Tut euch selbst einen Gefallen und zieht euch das Spiel nur rein, wenn ihr bereits volljährig seid!

The game is intentionally claustrophobic in its workings and it helps create an atmospheric experience. Good controls, inventive weapon upgrading and unusual happenings make Dead Space something special. Pretty rough looking monsters, dark scary places for things to go bump in the night and now you are on your way to scaresville. Tight-looking locations, clean lines, and good A.I. Again, a well-scored, creepy-sounding game. I had already beat the game and I still got the heebie jeebies thanks to the awesome sounds and music. Ever since the movie Event Horizon, I have waited for a seriously scary game set on a derelict spaceship. I can now check that off my list, this game is a winner. An excellent new addition to the splinter group of action games centered around horror. I suspect they will make a sequel and I suspect it too will spawn a franchise. Dead Space gets it right when it comes to the scares.

I think Dead Space could turn out to become a new successful franchise, offering enough quality to even compete against Resident Evil 5. I must say, Resident Evil 4 is a bit better than Dead Space, but EA did a fine job in bringing a fair amount of gore and scary moments. I personally found Dead Space a lot scarier than Resident Evil 4, and of course that's a great compliment. Dead Space combines the sci-fi environments of Metroid Prime with the horror of famous alien movies and some of the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 without the camp of Capcom's survival-horror classic. Maybe it's no classic, but I do recommend it.

Dead Space won’t be winning any awards since it’s basically a compilation of previously used concepts molded together into one game. And despite being a survival horror game, it shares similar problems with Resident Evil 4. It’s scary at first, but once you get a bigger gun it becomes a Horror Action game, with no real threat present. That being said, Dead Space is an excellent game that’s worth checking out, even if you don’t like horror games.

Dead Space isn’t a perfect game. The controls are sticky, the levels are sometimes padded out needlessly and the atmosphere occasionally loses its scary edge – but it has strengths too. The graphics and presentation are top-notch, the violence is brutal and engaging and the plot is deeper than you’d expect. In the end, the game is just plain fun, so while it may not be to everyone’s cup of tea it certainly won’t leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Despite lacking some tweaks that could have made the most horror-jaded gamers wet themselves, Dead Space delivers scares, gore and a truly disturbing gem of a game. If you’re up to a second go at the USG Ishimura, a completed playthrough will net you, a la Resident Evil 4, money and weapons upgrades that should have you staving off the infected at least one more time. Dead Space is a must buy for all fans of survival horror.

But repetition is only an issue if the action repeated is no fun, and while it never blows your socks off, Dead Space seldom fails to entertain. As in Bioshock (by my lights, at least - please direct all hate mail to the usual address) the fundamentals here are ultimately so many old chestnuts, but EA Redwood strings its borrowed parts together with becoming deftness, then seasons them with some delightfully unpleasant atmospherics. The resulting game lacks 2K Games' breakaway premise or narrative verve, but it's still a tightly crafted, resolutely competent addition to the survival horror scene. Keep 'em coming, chaps.

On the whole though, Dead Space is a superb survival horror romp that's guaranteed to scare. If you like Resident Evil 4, you should definitely go out and buy this game right now. It's clearly set up for a sequel, and we can't wait. For now though, we'll leave you with the obligatory 'best played alone and with the lights off' advice. Go on. You're not chicken are you?

I think I have gone over everything that is needed to be said. Dead Space is a well made action horror shooter. If you are a fan of the genre then you should really take this advice and check it out. It is a short experience, lasting around 8-10 hours depending on how experienced you are. It does give you the option to replay with the same upgrades you finished with, but apart from Trophies/Achievements, there really isn’t any incentive to do so again because it’s quite a linear game.

Still, Dead Space is worth playing. It’s not a BioShock sized home run, but the Zero Gravity sections and the admittedly tense moments are worth experiencing. If you’re torn on which version to buy, you won’t find a true PC adaption here. It’s not a bad port, but the lack of a true save game feature is likely to irk PC gamers who demand such a feature.

And that's really what Dead Space boils down to. It's competent, but generic. To answer the question I posed at the beginning of this review as to whether the game has enough originality to make it stand out amongst the crowd, the truth is it does, but not very often. When it sticks to its more original ideas; the zero-g environments, the severing of limbs with unique weapons, the lack of ammo, etc. it works very well. But it doesn’t capitalize on these innovations as it should. It plays things too safe, resorting to repeating the same shootouts in the same corridors that would feel at home in any number of shooters. It’s too afraid to really take any risks, like adding more zero-g environments, or cutting the game length in half (keeping all the good bits and doing away with the filler). There's still a pretty good action game at its core, but don't be surprised if the last few hours bear more than a passing resemblance to the first.

None of these criticisms will detract from your enjoyment, provided all you want from a game is the opportunity to repeatedly turn evil monsters into red mush in gorgeous HD detail. Dead Space easily delivers on that promise, but fails to turn its polished production values into something truly memorable over the long haul.
