The character utilities option lets you make new characters and add or remove them from your party.
Starting out a new game. There is a day/night cycle, when it's dark out your range of vision is limited. Here it's morning and becoming brighter.

Combat takes place on a tactical screen. Positioning is important, if you are facing your team mate, nothing will stop you from attacking and killing your own characters!

Fighting inside the dungeon. The tactical map reflects the terrain you were in when you began combat.
To level up your characters, you have to visit a guild.
Some fixed location encounters announce themselves with a text description.
All other party members are dead and the last man standing is surrounded!
Alas, though he fought valiantly, he was overcome.
