Destruction Derby

Har man længe gået og ledt efter en undskyldning for at opgradere sin 'gamle' maskine til en Pentium, så vil jeg gerne forære én væk, nemlig tidens fedeste action-spil til PC: Destruction Derby!

Destruction Derby is amazing on so many levels that it would be impossible to call it anything less than great, but it's not quite perfect somehow.

As you may have guessed from the title, Destruction Derby isn't a game about fair-play, but then are there any games that are nowadays. The game features two modes: hard and soft. There are some options to play between the two and change some of the rules to make it even better.

Because Destruction Derby is so simple and so rowdy, racers of all ages should enjoy taking this disc out for a spin. Sophisticated drivers won't get much satisfaction, but anyone looking to play bumper cars with high-revving racing machines will have a blast.

The boys at Psygnosis should be riding high right about now. Being responsible for two of the best games we've ever seen on a home system is definitely reason enough. Rivaled only by it's sister opus, Wipeout, Destruction Derby is sure to work gamers into a frenzy.

I've been waiting years for somebody to make a game like Destruction Derby. I love a good, realistic racing game just as much as anyone else, but every once in a while, I like to crash into things....hard! This Playstation smash-fest has so many wild spins and body panels flying, it's hard to believe. The techno music is fab and the control is instinctive, but it's the ultra-smooth 3-D in DD that's the main event. Awesome!

If those after-work traffic jams have left you cold, and you're looking for a little excitement to take the edge off, this could be your game. Destruction Derby is a wild dose of racing madness, with enough wrecks, smoke, and squealing tires to satisfy the demon driver that lurks inside all of us. (--Lee Buchanan)

Mit Destruction Derby ist Sony Interactive ein großer Wurf gelungen. Endlich ein Rennspiel, mit dem man all seine autofahr bedingten Aggressionen loswerden kann, ohne auf grandiose Unterhaltung verzichten zu müssen. Vor allem die Bowl in all ihren Varianten kann süchtig machen. Hoffen wir, daß von Sonys Playstation noch mehr PC-Futter dieser Qualität kommt.

Normally I'm not that much into action but this game kept me hooked for long hours because it's just great fun. So if you don't mind that racing is only the second priority behind preventing the others from finishing be sure to have a look at this game - you'll surely not regret it!

Wer Autorennen schon immer bevorzugt wegen der spektakulären Unfälle spielte, wird Destruction Derby lieben. Simulations-Fanatiker rümpfen hingegen die Nase und beten für ein baldiges Erscheinen von Microproses "Formula One Grand Prix 2".

It's mindless, brutal mayhem like Destruction Derby's that gives video games such a bad name. Thank God for games like this and their pointless, glorified violence from beginning to end that sucks you in instantly. There are only two things to do in this game—race or inflict damage on other cars—and it's at its best when you do both simultaneously, timing a slide around a tight hairpin in such a way that you send some poor schlub pinwheeling into a wall in a storm of flying metal and glass. The beautifully-rendered racetracks have their moments, but the real focus here is “The Bowl,” an open arena holding a dozen cars, all turned loose on each other. Though the cars may look realistic as they are reduced to smoking, lumbering junk, automotive physics has been cheerfully chucked out the driver's side window in the name of smoother gameplay.

The two-player mode is great fun. Who wouldn't enjoy smashing into your friend at high speeds, gaining points each crash? It is, after all, a fanatasy shared by most motorists. The problem arises in the one-player race mode. It's just not exciting enough to hold your attention - the control is way, way too loose. Psygnosis promises more intense racing action in the sequel, but for the time being, stick to the pit.
