I’m sure you can tell that I’m in love with this game. Out of all the excellent titles I’ve reviewed this year, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the single best one by far. The story and humor are superb, the level design astonishing, and the way it handles progression is marvelous. I don’t want to sound like a hyperventilating fan-boy, but there are hardly any flaws with it at all.

I could talk about this game for days. I mean it. There is so much to experience here, and so much to wrap your head around. If you’ve never played a Deus Ex game before, then I can’t imagine a better introduction into the series. If you have played Deus Ex before, then you will love most of what Human Revolution has to offer. The writing is just as gripping as ever, and the characters that flesh it out are suitably engaging. It does a remarkable job of supposing what the future could potentially look like, and does an even better job of encapsulating what it would feel like to be the center of a conspiracy. (And no I didn’t mean “at the center of a conspiracy”… just beat the game.) But most important of all Human Revolution wraps this narrative around the best shooter that has come out in a decade. Sorry Crysis 2, you’ve just been usurped. It should be illegal for you to not own this game.

There are plenty of open-ended games out there, but few really emphasize player choice like Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The result is the follow-up Deus Ex fans have been waiting for and one of the year's best.

Overall, Deus Ex: Human Revolution lives up to the high expectations that the original Deus Ex set. The deep storyline, the countless secret plots behind the scenes, the conspiracies, the moral and ethical questioning of what makes you human, and more make Human Revolution an addictive and fun game with lots of replay value.

Not only does DEHR contain all the open-ended, player-determined mechanics they've promised us, it all comes wrapped in an immersive game world and solid combat and cover mechanics. It has its quirks, but I'm believer in this team, and I hope that in a few years we're playing another Deus Ex that further refines all the great stuff that's happening here. I know there's been a lot of skepticism about this revival, but I for one have been made a believer.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an amazing game, the likes of which we haven't seen in over ten years. If you're at all interested in cyberpunk, transhumanism, action, stealth, exploration, conspiracy theories, roleplaying, futurism, or old-school PC gaming, pick up Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Hell, even if you're not interested in those, pick it up as a favor to me. It might be a little early to say it, but it's hard to imagine anything at this point beating out Human Revolution for game of the year.

Superb: 9s are a hallmark of excellence. There may be flaws, but they are negligible and won't cause massive damage to what is a supreme example of its genre.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution took more than four years to develop, but it’s no wonder - there’s plenty of exploration to be had in the cities built on top of each other (think: Futurama), challenging gameplay that requires thought-out strategy and 21 categories of game-defining augmentations. I love how augmentations are so well tied to Adam Jensen’s multi-layered, sci-fi narrative as well as the gameplay. Augmentation choices, branching paths and varying social gameplay encourage social gameplay, allowing you to put the perfect spin in the DE:HR tag line: “It’s not the end of the world game, but you can see it from here.” All of this slows the pace down - which may turn off your average Call of Duty jock - but it’s on purpose to make the game less like everything else out there and, most importantly, more like Deus Ex from 2000.

The result? While there are certain elements that may not please Deus Ex purists (the cover system comes to mind), Human Revolution is definitely a winning title with a whole lot of quality. It's definitely a game to look forward to if you have even the slightest interest in the genre, or even some good characters, and I'd say that it's certainly a worthy successor to the franchise. Some very minor flaws are present in controls, on the PC and consoles, but these can easily be overlooked by most. In short, it certainly looks like one of the best games this year, so pick it up if you get a chance.

Needless to say, I think Deus Ex: Human Revolution is fantastic. It has its flaws, but the overall experience remains largely untainted by them (mostly because they’re exaggerated in light of how great everything else is). Know that for everything you read in this review that makes the game sound good, there are at least two more things I haven’t told you for fear of spoiling your experience. It’s still too early to tell if this will end up the best game of 2011, but it’s definitely the best FPS/RPG of the past decade. Hopefully, the success it’s been enjoying both critically and commercially will lead to more games like it; I’m already much more excited about Eidos Montreal’s next game, Thief 4. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a third playthrough to resume…

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is as good as they come. Even if it doesn't sport the best graphics, its style greatly makes up for it, and the sound is magnificent. From a gameplay perspective, the freedom of choice is refreshing. The hope is that the provided tools work so well that you'll gladly try out everything during one playthrough. With the various avenues you can take and endings you can receive depending on your actions, you have a game with tons of replay value. The gameplay doesn't get old, and the flaws feel insignificant compared to everything that the game does right. While other high-profile games are coming out this year, it's safe to say that Eidos Montreal's rookie effort is a definite candidate for Game of the Year.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution took a little over four years to create, and waiting for a follow-up is the worst thing about the game. I finished it after 50+ hours — much of it spent simply exploring and trying out things. Is it better than the original? In certain ways, yes it is. More than anything, it's a brilliantly realized chapter to the world of Deus Ex. It has its rough edges and may not be as polished as it could've been. If you're a gung-ho shooter fanatic, it might not be as intense as you had hoped it might be. But I was too busy crawling through vents, picking through networks, and slipping unseen against the background to notice.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a beautiful and immersive video game. It manages to combine many elements into a coherent package, which remembers it's a role-playing game first and then a first-person shooter with cover mechanics. If you're on the fence about this title living up to the expectations of the original, or if you need to have experienced the first games in the series, don't worry, as Human Revolution is a great game that stands on its own merits.

I explored every single inch of the game and still want to go back to try a new way of playing on ‘Give Me Deus Ex’ difficulty. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a carefully-polished, well thought-out masterpiece that successfully makes every one of its many choices fun. It has some problems and doesn’t quite match the original Deus Ex, but the fact that it comes so very close and manages to improve on it in many areas is cause for celebration. Buy it, play it, love it, then play it again and love it again. You’ll nitpick, but chances are the main problems you’ll bring up no one else even considered – because when you have freedom of choice, you’re the one making the problems.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has happily been worth the wait and is a game that can hold its head up high next to the first game. Jensen isn't the most charismatic character, and the story is a tad patchy in places, but the game's world and its characters more than make up for it. Deus Ex: Human Revolution heralds the arrival of the cyber-renaissance, and it's pure gold.

Eidos Montreal’s spit, polish and fist-chisel punches have found a way, and I hope we won’t let it be the last time for another decade. I’d love to see Human Revolution show that smart can sell, and that gamers love freedom more than they love firing assault rifles at the Middle-East.

It’s almost unfair to compare this game to its predecessor, as there is not only a number of years of technological innovation, but also a different creative team behind the title. It does carry the Deus Ex name well, however, and stays very true to the core of what the franchise is about. This also means there’s a lot of plot to slog through. If you’re looking for something to simply while away a few hours, Deus Ex: Human Revolution isn’t going to be for you.

This. Is. An. Excellent. Game. It’s clever, thoughtful, well-written, superbly realised and not afraid to be difficult in an era where games fall over themselves to baby-walk you to their snoozy conclusions. Even though whilst playing, I am doing nothing more worthwhile than sitting on my arse, wearing only a flannel dressing gown and eating pizza because it’s Sunday and my wife is away, this game genuinely gave me a sense of rewarding achievement and interest. It engages your brain. Dubious Tom, come on in and relive the glories of the game’s good ancestor. The great days of PC gaming may well have come again. Tired old warhorse that I am, this makes me feel like I’m playing Thief for the first time. Only without the graphics that look like cardboard arse.

Is Deus Ex awesome? Absolutely. Is it a giant leap in design? No, and how could it be? With other games offering multiple story paths and upgradeable characters Deus Ex no longer stands alone in its field, and it’s not perfect by any means. But, with the mix of different choices, multiple paths and wholly addictive game play mechanics it's hard to put down.

In short, Human Revolution is a very good game and I can recommend it without hesitation, but it's not very good at its primary point of design. There is an unequivocally optimum path through the game, and while you can't purchase every upgrade there is, you can pretty easily get every one that's worth having. In a game that's ostensibly about choices, much fewer of them matter than you might think, and that's a bit disappointing. With that put aside, and I consider it to be the primary point for or against Human Revolution, this really is one of the better games released this year. About the only other issue I might have with it is that the load times on the 360 are pretty ridiculous, but when you're stuck talking about that, you know you've got a pretty solid product.

A solid game worthy of carrying the name "Deus Ex" and the best action-RPG title of the year. Not perfect, but stands out due to solid story, fun gameplay and believable play environments. Could have benefited from multiple proper endings with separate gameplay, but I guess that may be too much to ask these days.

Ten years ago I was wrong about Deus Ex. I gave up early and didn’t get to fully experience one of the greatest games of all time because I was a pussy. I wussed out because it was hard, open ended and ambitious. Human Revolution is the same. If you go expecting a modern shooter that hustles you down a corridor with invisible walls and holds your had the whole way you will be disappointed. If you realise the power of the tools that you are given and use your imagination, you will experience things no other game allows. You will make stories, and those stories will be your own. What more do you want from games than the opportunity to do such things?

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a good game — hell, it’s a great game. It has a rich storyline and those who get sucked into the fiction of the world will likely love gathering and learning as much as possible. Gamers approaching this title thinking it’s another first-person shooter like Killzone or Crysis 2 will likely be disappointed, as the pacing and action isn’t that of your typical FPS. While you can go in guns a blazing, you are rewarded for using your brain, instead of you gun, even though Adam Jensen is a badass security guy with the voice like Clint Eastwood. Human Revolution harkens back to games like System Shock, but more modern gamers might may feel that BioShock is a better comparison (but with more story and less forced action). I highly recommend picking up Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In an age when FPS games can be completed in 5 hours or less, Human Revolution offers a significantly longer and richer experience.

For all the myriad ways that Human Revolution comes up short, it excels in a single point: you are immersed in the setting. It draws you in and (with the exception of the aforementioned boss battles) lets you linger. It pulls at your mind and triggers that strange feeling that the events you’re seeing could very easily happen tomorrow. It makes you feel like the world is reacting to your behaviors. The various pop culture and geek references aside, and shortcomings notwithstanding, Human Revolution gives you a world to experience and exercise in. For a game that has such a tough act to follow, and such a long time between installments, Eidos Montreal should be proud of what they’ve done while figuring out how to do better next time. There’s plenty of room in the Deus Ex universe for different stories to explore all the aspects of that universe and I can hardly wait to experience the next one.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution doesn’t actually set out to reinvent the wheel. Hell, it doesn’t even seem that particularly interested in bettering the revolutionary Deus Ex from 2000. Instead, the game relies on a very deep and flexible choice and consequence system, which drives a level of moral obligation that fuels the game’s emotional narrative. While this tone is unfortunately unbalanced by the game’s forced instances, there’s simply too much choice and customization here to completely hinder the experience. The fantastic level of augmentation available for your character is complimented by the stunning level of design employed in the artificial limbs, an aesthetic quality shared throughout the game’s mesmerizing and memorable world. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an emotional and troubling look into a very possible distant future.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a thoroughly enjoyable action-RPG, with varied mission design and an unparalleled freedom to tackle the objectives in your own way. The boss battles detract from the main flow of the game, but that doesn't stop it being one of the best games of this year.

Despite the odds being stacked against it, Eidos Montreal accomplished the impossible and brought us a Deus Ex in the true sense of the word, probably the best one that we could have hoped for considering the current “requirements” for being commercially successful nowadays. More importantly though, besides being a game that any self-respecting gamer should own, Human Revolution is a symbol and a slap in the face of the publishers who think that the only way to make a profit is to churn out simpler and simpler games. Guess what, you can also enjoy success and sell millions of units with a title that puts your mind to work and doesn’t sneer at the values of a series just to please the masses. All it takes is the will to make it.

It’s not anywhere near a trend yet, and it probably won’t have any effect on the terrible sequels (there’s no hope for the current crop of idiots), but it at least opens a door (or maybe an air duct) to a new way forward. Human Revolution, which given the way sequels are made these days should have been a disaster, instead makes the Deus Ex name even more illustrious.

I’ll admit I was among the naysayer that doubted Deus Ex could be restored to its former glory. Not so much because the first game had set the bar so high, but because it did so over a decade ago. Gamers' evolving tastes and the industry’s rapidly changing technology make it exceedingly difficult to stay true to something that was considered great ten years before, and it's almost impossible to do that while also appealing to those brought up on today‘s games. It’s a no-win situation, but Eidos Montreal has found victory. I’m sure those who still bow at the Deus Ex altar will find faults, but based on my experience with all three entries in the series, Human Revolution is its best, striking the sweet spot between retaining the franchise’s spirit and evolving its gameplay to contemporary standards. For those new to Deus Ex, unburdened by any memories or expectations, you’re in luck. Human Revolution is one of the most engaging interactive experiences you’ll enjoy this year.

For fans of the original, Human Revolution isn't exactly what you were likely looking for, but it's nearly as good, and that's much more than many hoped for when publisher Square Enix announced it years ago. Having played only bits and pieces of the first two Deus Ex games, I was able to pick up the title and enjoy its many qualities without hindrance. Yes, it has faults, a fairly sizable list in fact, but much like the original Assassin’s Creed it feels like the precipice leading on towards even greater things. It is unique within this generation, and stands out as the most mentally engaging game that I have played in 2011. I recommend it whole-heartedly, just don’t expect your mad hacking skills to beat a 350 pound maniac.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has, in my opinion, delivered on all the hype and attention surrounding it. There are issues surrounding the small size of some of the city districts and the lack of ammo but don’t let that take away anything from this game. Eidos Montreal and Square Enix have delivered a game that is deep, very fulfilling and beautiful to look at and play. The four pillars of gameplay add a level of sophistication that is very rare to find in RPGs or FPS.

While Deus Ex: Human Revolution can't be the revelation that Deus Ex was in 2000, it's an achievement nonetheless. It's a visionary, considered piece of work, and while my thoughts drift to the things that could have been and the compromises made due to the possibilities of video games in 2011, they're just as quick to consider playing through it again. Human Revolution is a smart, rewarding piece of transhumanist noir that does justice not just to Deus Ex, but to the fiction that inspired it.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the Xbox 360. What makes this game so good is its ability to mix things up and not follow any one particular genre template. The RPG, Stealth, and Shooter sequences all work together and the series has successfully managed to capture some of the magic from the original game. The visuals and sound alone are fantastic; and the 30-hour plus single player campaign offers up plenty of replay value and should keep gamers coming back for more for months on end. Needless to say, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of the better Xbox 360 games to arrive this year.

Rich, atmospheric and open-ended, but let down by twitchy AI and out-of place boss fights. Deus Ex is the thinking man's FPS, but it could have been smarter

It's important to remember the DX: HR is three types of games in one: combat, stealth, and social engagement. All three are done so equally well here it's hard not to recommend this game even if you only enjoy one aspect. DX: HR offers many different choices. Some many will find easy; some many will find hard. If you talked your way in the first time around, try and sneak in the second time, even if you know talking your way in is easier. See a nice weapon behind locked doors but don't have the hacking skill to get in? There might be another way. There's always another way. Keep this in mind, and you'll enjoy Deus Ex to the fullest.

Despite having its flaws and niggles, Human Revolution excels in its ability to spin a fantastic cyber-punk yarn with all the trimmings of a futuristic Bladerunner-esque vision. The negatives begin to sink deep into a sea of wonderful opportunities and experiences, as you immerse yourself deeper into this dark and somewhat dystopian future. Human Revolution is a must buy for any fan of the series and newcomers alike, and while it’s not exactly the second-coming of the Ion Storm original, it deserves its place in the lore, the universe and the gaming bible that we like to pontificate from every so often.

Don't let these imperfections dissuade you from playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution if you're so inclined. This is an extensive (20-plus hours) game that by the very nature of its complexity invites replay. It is true that many of its individual elements don't withstand close inspection. But those elements add up to an impressive and absorbing adventure that invites you to improvise. You glide from rooftops like a cyberpunk angel in a world on the brink of technological breakthroughs and socioeconomic disaster, and uncover conspiracies in the unlikeliest of places. The longer you play, the more the story grabs you and the more you appreciate the customizability of the game. Hybrid games like this are uncommon. Even more uncommon are games with Human Revolution's power to eclipse its quirks with such enthralling atmosphere and exciting adaptability.

Hooray for doing things differently! In Deus Ex: Human Evolution, Eidos and Square Enix deliver an FPS/RPG hybrid where freedom of choice prevails and thinking out of the box is rewarded. The totally different ways of playing (combat, stealth, hacking) are also a good reason to replay the game later on. This third Deus Ex is a great game, despite its technical flaws.

Now the hard part – deciding on the score. I have to admit that when I first started playing Human Revolution it felt like real Game of the Year material, and I was gushing like a rabid fanboy to anybody who cared to listen. However, over extended playtime the overly simplistic behavior of the AI was hard to ignore, taking the shine off an otherwise dazzling experience. It's still an excellent game, with one of the best blends of the FPS and RPG genres ever realized, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to fans of either. But it's also not quite the perfectly believable and open sandbox game we all wanted it to be. As a result I'm giving it a very good 4/5.

Barring a few missteps, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a gripping and unique thrill ride that everyone should play. It's faith in its mechanics and play style allows the player an ultimate sense of freedom and the result is a game that you're not going to want to just experience, but play through again and again. It may not be perfect, but Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a great action romp.

Deus Ex is a game that can be played many different ways, and perhaps this open-ended approach is what keeps this dormant, ambient narrative more hidden than it ought to. But part of any gameplay experience that makes it fascinating and unique is how persuasive your actions feel in the game. Without player interaction compelling forward movement, games are never fully realized. Human Revolution’s story seems unsure at points precisely because of how interactive it is—it is the same disembodied documents, shreds of evidence that lay like puzzle pieces before the confused and aspiring historian. It is both tremendously frustrating and profoundly liberating that the game does not put all the pieces together for us.

I find it easy to recommend Deus Ex: Human Revolution. While it’s not a home run that revolutionizes the series and its well-known staples, Eidos Montreal have created a quality title with hours of interesting content. The game’s morally involved storyline will both intrigue and interest you with its complexity and adult themes. In my opinion, the complexity of its premise and the amazing social interaction system, happened to be the two standouts in this experience. One that will grip you and keep you interested throughout, though it starts off a bit slow. For its sixty dollar admittance fee, this is a game that most gamers will get a lot out of in terms of quality and content.

It has its issues, but it's the world, the setting, and the story that make Human Revolution great. These aspects of the game are so solid that I happily waded through the game's low points in search of the next hackable terminal or other flavor-filled bit of dialogue or text. That stuff is so strong that, unless you're an extreme stickler for the above-mentioned problems, you'll more than likely be able to look past the game's weak points as well.
