With graphics that truly show off the power of the PS2, and genius game design (brought to you by the original creators of Resident Evil 2), every self-respecting gamer owes it to themselves to experience Devil May Cry. If you've been waiting for a great action game, look no further.
Devil May Cry, ultimately deserves a ten as on overall score. It's not a "perfect" game, but there are various elements and portions that make it come close to being so. With Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2 left to be released, one must wonder if I'll be giving out tens to those games as well. Overall, Devil May Cry is easily one of the best games I've played in years, it's right up there with ICO, GT3, Final Fantasy IV-X and Zelda: A Link to the Past. Be warned though, the screenshots make the game look harmless...but this game is an addictive DRUG! Thank you...
Devil May Cry is one of the hottest new games for the PlayStation 2. This game should appeal to both survival horror fans and those who enjoy great action and fighting games where you get to learn and master all sorts of combos and weapons combat.
Being a huge fan of Tekken, Soul Calibur and many other fighting games, Devil May Cry is the ultimate game for me. Even if I didn't love fighting games though, I would still love Devil May Cry. Simply put, it's more fun to play than any other action game out there. I cringe when I think of how slow and mellow games like Tomb Raider, Syphon Filter, Extermination and Perfect Dark are in comparison. Once you start playing DMC you won't be able to put it down. I've beaten Onimusha more than seven times and still enjoy playing it. Devil May Cry is even better that.
Devil May Cry definitely takes the cake when it comes to pure, unadulterated action. The combination of swords and guns adapted to quick nimble control is really untouchable. Having grown out of the Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry is in a strange way a furious refusal of its originator's slow, awkward sensibility, with fast load times, all action gameplay, and once again the delivery of mood that is both creepy and scary at times.
Devil is an entertaining game that is maybe a little too short for the average gamer but does offer the chance to unearth special missions and unlock a few things. Keep playing it and you’ll find that you can gain harder and harder difficulty modes until you can play as the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda…Dante’s dad from the Intro.
Lets rock, babe.
Game Informer Magazine
The game you see today was originally destined to be Resident Evil 4 – a sequel that would have taken place on a large boat. Ironically, when you compare Devil May Cry to Resident Evil, there are no similarities, ties, or shared designs. They actually stand apart as polar opposites. Within Raccoon City, fear, story progression, and puzzles are the dominating factors. Devil May Cry is all about kicking ass, and looking good while you do it. Of course, there is a story to follow, but it's sculpted more in the vein of Castlevania than the traditional survival horror mold. It doesn’t twist and turn, mess with your head, or surprise you at any point. Basically, the introductory cutscene brings you up to speed, then you play through the rest of the tale.
All in all, Devil May Cry is a fantastic game. It's a blast to play and one I'd highly recommend to anyone who loves a good battle. This game is for the action fiend, and if action is what you crave, go out and pick up Devil May Cry right now. You won't be disappointed.
This is perhaps the best title available for the PS2 thus far. Its hyper-kinetic gameplay style will pull you in and tighten its grip, until you blast yourself free with your shotgun ... or dual handguns ... or grenade launcher ... or demonically possessed sword. When you hear reviewers speak of "killer apps," this is the type of title they talk about. Devil May Cry is currently the best action game on the PS2, and I recommend it heartily.
Devil May Cry is one of the hottest games on the Playstation 2. The graphics and music combine to generate one of the most atmospheric games ever seen while the storyline is strong enough to hold your interest through the entire game. However it's the continual action that will keep you coming back for more, if only to show off to your mates. With about 10-15 hours game time this won't take forever to complete but it is pretty tough in spots. Capcom have developed yet another great game that must be considered by all Playstation 2 owners.
It must have been a dull day over at Capcom. It seems that while working on a new Resident Evil title, something struck Hideki Kamiya with the force of unleashed hellfire. Call it a spark of creative genius or a psychotic episode, but whatever it was caused the team to rework their project into Devil May Cry. This project combines a piece of the RE series with a piece of Onimusha, and sprinkles it with the sulphur from under a demon's fingernails to bring forth a title that just so happens to be the fastest, sexiest, loudest, and, like all things spawned from the bowels of hell, intensely addictive assault on your senses to hit the PS2 thus far. Do your warm-ups for this one, people, because you are about to assume control of the hippest and most lethal devil/human badass this side of the fifth ring.
However, I only really complain because it's my job to complain (this porridge is too hot, dammit). Don't be fooled - Devil May Cry is pure gold for the PS2 and easily makes my short list of must-have games. So unless you're ready to draw a pentagram on your floor and plunge a magic sword through your chest, go get this game instead and experience Dante's demonic powers through your TV. It's nothing short of exhilarating and far less painful.
Capcom's notion of what's cool--a concept on which its PlayStation 2 action game Devil May Cry was built--may not find complete synergy with today's gaming audience. In fact, much of Devil May Cry's aesthetic presentation is rooted in stereotypical gothic and cheesy '80s metal imagery. But beneath that overstated surface is one of the most interesting and generally entertaining 3D action games in recent years. Perhaps for the first time in the 3D action genre, Devil May Cry has successfully captured the twitch-based, relentlessly free-flowing gameplay style of so many classic 2D action games.
Shinji Mikami, the man who thought up Resident Evil, has done it again. An easy-to-play yet challenging game. Cool looking monsters (something I watch for in particular) with impressive graphics mark this as an excellent first birthday present for the PlayStation 2. There will of course be comparisons to the other Capcom hit, Onimusha: Warlords. And, although the similarities appear predominant, they in fact are not. Two superior games in the same body, just different veins. Get Devil May Cry for some button mashing, demon slaying fun.
So, in conclusion, Devil May Cry is incredible. It is so rare to find a game so beautiful, yet so well thought out and implemented. It’s got style, it’s got grace, it’s right in your face, it’s a winner! Go and purchase.
This is the best action game for the PS2 so far, as we have yet to see what MGS2 will offer. It is one of the few games this holiday season worth spending your money on. Defiantly worth a look.
Devil May Cry might be over six years old and arguably superseded by younger competitors, but if you want a classic, dependable and tough action-adventure with its finger firmly on the trigger then you can’t really go wrong with this awesome adventure. Imitated by many, not particularly bettered by any – this is a real slice of the PS2 in its prime and an outstanding representation of the pinnacle of the genre.

Devil May Cry is not only long enough, but has enough replay value to satisfy any action hungry gamer. This isn't a game that you rent, unless you like torturing yourself. Buy it, play it and savor every moment of intense action. If you don't love this game, you had better get your pulse taken.
Devil May Cry kommt nämlich mit erstklassiger englischer Sprachausgabe daher, was die Story umso verständlicher macht.
Dante is hot and Trish, though having considerably less screen time, is almost as hot. Those two reasons alone are why you should get this game…
The Video Game Critic
Unlike Resident Evil or Tomb Raider where pushing up always moves you forward, Dante will move on the screen exactly the direction you move the joystick. This wouldn't be a problem if the camera remained in place, but it's constantly changing! Parents should note that this game contains a LOT of gore. Heck, Dante gets impaled even before the game begins - and it won't be the last time! Devil May Cry is a far cry from the Resident Evil games, but the constant action and stellar graphics will captivate most gamers.
It’s not entirely concocted from perfect ingredients, however. During the many boss encounters the camera can at times prove uncooperative and disorientating, which can in turn lead to significant energy losses – frustrating if you’re battling one of the harsher enemies. Thankfully, the defect doesn’t present itself during the rest of your dealings with the forces of darkness. It’s also not the longest title of its type, although – as ever – there are extras to encourage further play. And, ultimately, anyone unwilling to experience Devil May Cry on the erroneous basis that it represents a typical, predictable Capcom enterprise is simply missing out on an enthralling and genuinely distinct adventure.
All Game Guide
Its length may keep it from being a "must-buy" title, but it's still one of the more enjoyable games released on the PlayStation 2 thus far.
Accidents do happen: What originally began as the first Resident Evil title for the PlayStation 2 has evolved into one of the strongest games of the year, Devil May Cry. Devil's more than an offshoot of the RE series that puts new characters in familiar situations quite the contrary. This unique game has style, technique, and beautiful looks to match. Playing as a devil hunter, you'll hack-n-blast through a castle island packed with monsters and other supernatural terrors.
Let's say you beat Devil May Cry. And, for some reason, you still want more. The game actually has a pretty high replay value. You can continue playing through the game a second time, only this time things are way harder. Psssst! I've even heard rumors of unlockable characters and stuff if you beat the game enough/are really bored and obsessed. So Capcom really has proved itself again with this great action game. And it's true to the name: plenty of action, a straightforward-no-BS plot, and the best character that Capcom has created since Mega Man.
