The most important task of Monster Island is to scare Nerves, the Fright Meter color that matches the color of the nerve you want to scare must be filled, if you don't have enough Ooze, the nerve will laugh at you, if your scare canister level starts dropping, you are not pressing the correct buttons, not pressing them fast enough, or laughing too hard to continue. The goal is to help Sulley and Mike become Top Scarers, that is what these monsters do, hide in closets so they can frighten kids, although they are much too cute to be real-scary.

Monsters, Inc. – Scare Island is an enjoyable, fun, and user-friendly action gaming experience that kids 8 and up will surely love.

After playing Monsters Inc. Scream Team, I have decided I now want to see the movie. Disney/Pixar has a way with developing winners like Toy Story and Bugs Life. Monster Inc. should not disappoint in my opinion. As you can see, I don’t have anything bad to say. It is a great PS1 title. Kids as well as grown ups will get a kick out of playing it. The controls are simple enough to pick up and play with little to no learning curve and there are a lot of fun things to do. The levels are large and the loading times were pretty quick even the movie clips. If your looking for a decent kids game, I don’t think you could go wrong with Monsters Inc. It is plain old good wholesome fun!

If you liked the film, you'll like the game. If you loved the film...well, you get the idea.

I was very surprised with Monsters Inc. When I was handed this game, my first reaction was, "Oh great, another Disney game. This should be fun." (Add very sarcastic tone now.) But when I started playing it, I was happily amused. Sure there were no impossible enemies to pass or any annoying bosses, but when you make a game targeted for kids you don't want to include any vague mysterious puzzles or bazooka toting, trench coat wearing, monster. I fully enjoyed this game (When I lowered the volume) and would say this is a must by for any parent looking for a non-violent, fun, challenging, puzzle game for their children.

Considering the total lack of games for younger players both Sony and Disney Interactive are to be commended for releasing this title on the PS2. Character animations are guaranteed to give a chuckle and some of the final "scares" are hilarious! Graphically the title is nice to watch and controls are made simple for the intended younger audience over the top and some of the limitations of a direct PSone port do show.

Overall this was a nice game that doesn't require any thinking or quest solving but does require some fast moving fingers.

PlayStationGame Informer Magazine (Nov, 2001)
The bad thing about Disney games is that they’re all so similar, I often forget which game I’m playing. Aladdin’s New Groove – I mean Monsters, Inc – covers familiar ground, but adds some mildly amusing button-mashing scare tactics to the mix. Also, a medal system means you will need to play each level through multiple times. It looks like butt, though.

WindowsAll Game Guide (2001)
Following the actual plotlines of the movie would have enhanced the game, such as giving you the opportunity to stop Randall's evil scheme, but the simple design is built around letting Mike and Sulley practice to be Top Scarers. Scare Island is not too challenging, and there's no violence other than the breaking of toys, but gameplay is fun and allows fans of the characters to extend their enjoyment just a bit more.
60 (Mar 13, 2002)

Deshalb: Nur was für fanatische Disney-Fans!
PlayStationGameSpot (Feb 05, 2002)
Like most of the games being released for the PlayStation at this point, Scream Team is intended for younger, more casual gamers. The game is well produced enough, with an adequate soundtrack, sharp, colorful graphics, and a sound physics model, but the simplicity of the gameplay and the game's relative shortness keeps Scream Team from being attractive to the more serious gamers.
WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Feb, 2002)
PlayStationGame Revolution (Nov 01, 2001)
But for all of that, Monsters Inc.: Scream Team turns out to be fine for its intended audience. Simple gameplay with familiar heroes is enough to keep the little ones occupied for a while. Just don't expect anyone over the age of six to go ga-ga over it.
PlayStation 2Gameplanet (Feb 21, 2002)
All in all Monsters Inc is the kind of game anyone can play as long as you dont mind a game that strays away from the 'norm' so-to-speak. A game based on scary monsters (that are really kinda cute) and the multiple scare tactics they use may not be everyone's cuppa tea, but it will definitely put a smile on your face for at least a little while. If youre not into repetitive games, give this one a miss but definitely recommend this game to younger players. If nothing else the animation is really quite cool.
PlayStationGame Informer Magazine (Nov, 2001)
For the experienced 3D action/platform fan, Monsters, Inc is far too easy and repetitive; but for kids just getting into video games, it's a great place to start. So, I’ll give it a 5 here in the review since I’m older than the target market, but I will say that if I was still 9 years old, I would have given it an 8.
