Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!

Toy Story 2 ended up being a real pleasant surprise for me. I never thought that anyone would be able to translate a movie of such high quality graphics to the Playstation. Well, while the graphics certainly cannot compare to the movie, the gameplay is very good and the story plays out in videogame format quite nicely. There is a lot to see and do while guiding Buzz around in this fantasyland of toys. If you are looking to re-experience the joy of the movie or just like playing a really good 3D platformer, then Toy Story 2 is definitely a game to look into.

Disney-Fans und alle Freunde der Zelluloidvorlage werden sich in diesem Spiel sehr schnell heimisch fühlen. Wer Jump&Runs mit riesigen Locations und einigen eingestreuten Rätseleinlagen mag, wird sicherlich nicht von Toy Story 2 enttäuscht sein.

If you loved the movies or if you have the patience to get used to the controls, I would recommend you buy this game. I would buy it. I would buy it because I loved the movies. I'm not very patient, but the cuteness of the whole thing made it worth a try. Run around as Buzz Lightyear. Shoot some toys. Collect some coins for Hamm. You are Buzz Lightyear. You learn your way around Andy's House (just as it appeared n the movie) and around his yard and into his neighborhood. You get sucked right in.

Un bon jeu qui aurait mérité plus de fignolage. Travellers Tales va vite quand il développe mais a tendance à aller un peu trop vite… Heureusement, tout le fun et l’ambiance du dernier Disney sont là pour vous faire passer de bons moments.

Because Toy Story 2 is really geared more towards kids, I found the difficulty to be pretty easy. The first level is treated like a tutorial, giving you an idea of what Buzz can and can't do. I did enjoy playing this game, but I think kids will enjoy it even more.

Toy Story 2 is a fun, if flawed adventure. The gameplay is solid, but some video and snazzier graphics would have been nice. If you're looking for an easy-to-jump-into game that won't have you swearing at the screen, this isn't a bad choice. And as far as games from movies go, it's no Goldeneye 007, but it probably won't be as bad as the upcoming Crying Game 64.

I look at this game as a solid platformer that only has some minor flaws. The sound was probably the weakest area, but it definitely isn't crucial for this game. It just would've been the icing on the cake. Also, a multi-player mode would've been a nice throw-in even though most people would probably just view it as that, a throw-in. Other than these things and a couple minor glitches, the game is solid and has sharp graphics, slick control, Rumble Pak compatibility and plenty of gameplay to get through. You could probably get through the game somewhat quickly, but to get everything it will take effort that only Buzz Lightyear can provide.

If you love the movie Toy Story 2 and haven't played too many of the 3D platform games out there on the N64 then add this title to your library. But for me, this game wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Toy Story provides some wholesome, classic run-and-jump gaming which has been fun since the original Super Mario Brothers. The strong graphics, wonderful cutscenes and simple gameplay definitely make this a desirable game for all ages - if you have the hardware to play it well. Younger gamers will definitely enjoy Toy Story 2, but some of the more difficult jumps will have them stuck and frustrated - at least, that's what happened to me. If you have a new Mac, a good gamepad and want something other than excessive violence, go grab yourself a copy of Toy Story 2. Otherwise, don't bother.

Alles wat uit de handen van Disney komt, voldoet aan een zekere kwaliteitsnorm. Vandaar ook dat, ondanks enkele minpunten, dit spel best leuk is.

Toy Story 2 ist eine solide Umsetzung der Filmhandlung. Durch die schicke 3D-Grafik im Plastilinlook kommt das Spiel recht nahe an die Optik des Renderfilms heran. Auch die Animationen von Buzz & Co haben mir gut gefallen. Nicht so schön ist die gewöhnungsbedürftige Steuerung. Denn die Perspektivenwechsel kommen trotz manueller Korrekturmöglichkeit oft im falschen Moment. Außerdem neigt Buzz dazu, durch einen ungewollten Schritt von Plattformen zu fallen. Dafür sind die Puzzle-Elemente durchdacht und originell. Am besten fand ich die aufblasbare Ente im Garten. Alles in allem werden Freunde des Streifens durch eingestreute Filmschnipsel Spaß an der Umsetzung haben - ein wenig Geduld mit der Steuerung vorausgesetzt.

För att vara ett platforms-snedstreck-äventyrsspel i 3D är det helt okej. De lite yngre spelarna får säkert ut lite mer av det. Men faktum är att Buzz och hans armlaser - som blir ett hårkorsförsett förstapersonsperspektiv när det aktiveras - kan mycket väl tilltala de som vanligtvis är mest förtjusta i actionspel.

With a pair of Sonic games heading to Dreamcast this winter, there is relief in site for younger gamers. As for Disney properties, hopefully Dinosaur and Buzz Lightyear's Star Command will feature better gameplay when they ship this fall. Dreamcast could definitely use some quality kids' titles.

With its actual film clips and recognizable characters, Toy Story 2 is going to attract kids in droves. The variety of ways to progress in the game should keep them glued to the set. But be warned: there's very little here for us older gamers. For anyone who still prefers Dennis the Menace to South Park, though, Toy Story 2 has their name written all over it.

In the end, the game is good, even with its shortcomings. Whether you've seen the movie or not, Toy Story 2, as a game, stands on its own because it offers gameplay. It's not complicated or sexy, and, in fact, the N64 game isn't all that attractive or well designed. But it is possible to have fun with it. If you are a fan of the Pixar films, the game struggles to deliver the same experience in video-game format - largely due to the missing fmv cutscenes. The shortcomings, however, aren't enough to take away an entertaining movie-to-video-game effort. It's well worth a rental.

Selten habe ich in einem Geschicklichkeitsspiel eine ungenauere Steuerung gesehen. Selbst die Sprung-Routinen sind unter aller Kanone. Schon eine harmlose Aktion mutiert, gepaart mit Übelkeit erregend wilden Kameraschwenks, zum puren Glücksspiel. Buzz kann auch nicht rückwärts laufen - stattdessen dreht er sich einfach um. Und erwarten Sie bloß keinen Schritt zur Seite. Irgendwie jammerschade um die witzigen Sprüche, die tolle Musik und die wirklich drolligen Viecher, die in diesem Spiel herumwuseln. Mein Rat: Schauen Sie sich lieber den Kinofilm an.

Das gibt's doch nicht: Von der PS-Version war ich durch das tolle Level-Design, die vielen kleinen Aufgabenstellungen und vor allem der Top-Spielbarkeit noch absolut begeistert - alle anderen Umsetzungen vergesst ihr am besten gleich. Wer sich das Spiel damals noch nicht zugelegt hat, muss das auch jetzt nicht mehr nachholen. Vor allem verstehe ich nicht, wie es passieren konnte, dass eine an sich recht gute Kameraführung (auf der PS) so verhunzt wurde.

Mais alors qu'on aurait pu s'attendre à une version N64 bien plus aboutie graphiquement que la version Play, on est rapidement déçu. Les graphismes sont non seulement flous mais aussi tout pixelisés et bien tristounets par rapport à la version Play. Même le jeu s'en ressent avec des baisses de framerate assez sensibles. Quand en plus, bien évidemment, les superbes scènes cinématiques de la version PSX ont été secouées et remplacées par des images statiques avec textes explicatifs, on se sent floué à jouer à cette version, une version définitivement moins travaillée que sur Play.

Toy Story 2 hat eigentlich alles, was ein Jump&Run zum Hit machen könnte: Große, gut durchdachte Level, viele Geheimnisse und nicht zuletzt eine verkaufsträchtige Filmlizenz. Doch leider machen die nur durchschnittliche Grafik- und Soundkulisse in Kombination mit der unglücklichen Steuerung den Sprung in die Oberklasse mehr als zunichte.Warten wir also weiterhin auf einen passablen Dreamcast-Hüpfer, der in die Mario-Domäne Jump&Run Einzug halten und dem Klempner Paroli bieten kann. Nur für Hardcore-Fans des Films ein absolutes Muss.

The game is slightly buggy—clipping problems sometimes plague the graphics, and the camera can be jerky, causing vertigo-induced migraines after hours of play. If you don't have a G3/266, you're flat out of luck—it's back to Tetris for you. However, if you are blessed with a powerful system and have a particular affinity for Toy Story and for platform games, this is a worthwhile purchase—you'll find yourself whiling away hours and hours and days and days.

If you're an adult, don't expect to like this game much. If you're a young'un, you'll probably like it.

Toy Story 2 är dock ändå ganska trevligt, mest kanske på grund av miljöer och karaktärer, men också hyfsat spelbart även om det inte är så barnvänligt som innehållet kan ge sken av. Varning för frustration alltså. Och den som inte har tålamod att göra åtminstone tjugo försök på samma omöjliga passage bör välja ett annat spel.

Une adaptation trop fidèle puisque Toy Story 2 sur DC reprend le moteur désuet de la version PSX et la maniabilité n'est pas au rendez-vous.

Overall, Activision has done a decent, if uninspired, job of porting the game to yet another platform. In truth, there isn't much, aside from visuals, that sets the Dreamcast version from the game's previous incarnations. Fans of the toy-box crew will have no trouble getting down with their in-game counterparts, though those who've played the earlier incarnations will have little to look forward to, save a major facelift and some cleaner-looking FMVs.

We've been waiting for a platform game to come along and reinvigorate the genre for ages and, not surprisingly, Toy Story 2 didn't exactly set our world alight. Ultimately, the game was always going to suffer in comparison to the film, although in fairness it is definitely a cut above most merchandising tie-ins. If you buy it for a kid, don't be surprised to find yourself regularly 'helping out'.

Toy Story 2 is not a total disaster, but it could have been a whole lot better. Less repetitive gameplay, better camera manipulation, more exciting interactive action sequences, superior weaponry, lower token quotas for progress to the next level, greater save game opportunities, and improved enemy artificial intelligence could all have brought this game closer to its potential, as well as closer to the fun of the movie on which its is based. Rather than going to the expansive glories of infinity and beyond, thanks to its deficiencies in this title Buzz Lightyear takes us to the confining recesses of infinite frustration.

A good kid's game shouldn't only be fun for kids. Spyro the Dragon's key demographic is located far north of puberty, yet it's still enjoyed by gamers of all ages. Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, however, seems to have been simply created for the sake of filling out the franchise. Kids who are fans of the movie may enjoy interacting with the characters and hearing them talk (although the bank of phrases is rather scant and is repeated to infinity and beyond), while others will want to relegate Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue into the "Garage Sale" box.

If you want a groundbreaking three-dimensional platformer, you're looking in the wrong place, bub. Closest thing to that for the N64 now is Donkey Kong 64. Even the most fanatic of Toy Story fans will see straight through this game... the unoriginality and outdated-ness coupled with the poor graphics and weak frame rate send this straight to the bargain bins. If you want to follow the exploits of Buzz Lightyear, go watch the movie and leave this one at the toy store.
