If you have not guessed by now, I am a true fan of anything Disney. My view is: Take a break from this cruel wicked world and slip into something Disney. Atlantis is a good old fashion pick-up-and-play type of game that the kids or kiddies at heart can enjoy. The learning curve is fairly short and gameplay should deliver hours of fun for either the young or more inexperienced gamer.

Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire is a really fast-paced 3D action/adventure game that brings enough fresh new elements to the table that makes it deserving of a look if you're still in the market for games of this kind on the system. The use of the different playable characters could've been handled a lot better, but even as is, it still helps keep the gameplay varied and this is even helped out more by the excellent mixture of standard platforming elements with vehicle-based sections. It does by no means re-invent the genre, but it's a solid effort that's turned out to be much more enjoyable than I ever thought it would be.

Sony definitely has a formula when it comes to games based on Disney animated films, but when it works, it works. Atlantis throws a bit of Tomb Raider into the familiar Spyro stew, along with TR’s clumsy platforming and slightly clunky combat.

The conceptual basis is rather unique. Instead of manhandling just one character, you control six – each offering different solutions to the puzzles within. The overall scope of this release is similar to Tomb Raider, only on a much smaller scale. In such, the list of moves is akin to those Lara Croft uses to explore tombs. Scale rocks, swim through caverns, and monkey-swing your way to lost artifacts. After spending a significant amount of time exploring, the adventure changes face and offers up different gameplay styles and challenges within the minigames and vehicle-based stages.

Ultimately, it's far from terrible, but not far enough -- maybe worth renting but probably not buying. By the way, on the back cover of the game box is advertising for Aladdin in Nasira's Revenge for PlayStation. The Disney marketing machine rolls on….

Atlantis for Playstation is a decent game, and if I were a 7-year-old high on the movie, I'd have a decent amount of fun. The graphics, sound and design might not thrill older gamers, but we've seen a lot worse.

Disney's Atlantis could have been a bit more complex in its ambition, but as it stands, it has enough interesting ideas to make it an ideal game for both young players and fans of the film itself. The game is easy to complete, only lasting at most three or four hours for the average player, but it at least has some character and life of its own.
