Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a wonderful game for both kids and adults. The younger kids who are unable to grasp the more complicated aspects of Tony Hawk will love the simplified trick system and adults and teens will find the challenging mission objectives highly entertaining. There’s no denying that this game has a style and charm all its own that is unmistakably Disney and unmistakably fun for the entire family.

GameCubeGame Chronicles
Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, with its gold standard Tony Hawk 4 engine, awesome graphics and fun (albeit somewhat meager) assortment of Disney characters, is one of the best "family" titles on the market today. For older teens and adult gamers, it may get a bit dull or annoying in certain spots. However, if you're under 13, or looking for a way to have fun with your kids while playing a video game, you won't be disappointed.

Most of the recent Disney sports-related games have been decent at the very best. Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a different story though. The game is probably the best Disney game I’ve played in a while and a good skating game to boot. This just goes to show you what a good engine and development team can do.

Best kids game I've played in a long time. It's got fun characters, cool worlds, plenty of things to see and do, and nothing is too frustrating challenge-wise. Younger players may need help with some of the tougher goals and tricks. Players fall off their skateboards, but since they're all cartoon characters nobody gets hurt or bloody like in real life. The music, being songs frequently played on Radio Disney, is all family friendly (albeit annoying after a while). Disney Extreme Skate Adventure is definitely a great and appropriate kid alternative to the Tony Hawk Pro Skater game series. Heck, even I liked it better. Who wouldn't enjoy defeating Zurg as Buzz Lightyear on a skateboard? Kid Factor by Cary Woodham.

Kids love skateboards. Kids love Disney. Kids love video games. Put them all together and you have a winning combination, especially when coming from Activision.

Yes, I realize it's a short review. But the game is pretty straightforward if you think about it. Tony Hawk Pro Skater with Disney characters. It's cute, and it's fun to play. Parents can definately breate easy with the E for Everyone rating, and know this game is built with kids in mind. And that is a good thing.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure turned out be be a rather fun and solid title with a few flaws that I expect to see fixed for the hopeful sequel. I can't really recommend this to anyone over 12 years old, unless you happen to be a massive Disney fan. But if you're a parent or have a younger sibling that you don't hate, you'll have fun playing it with them.

GameCubeNext Level Gaming
Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure plays pretty much as the same as it's "parent" game, where the main goals of each level are to go around and collect various items and find NPC characters (other Disney characters) that will give you missions to accomplish. You can also just skate around on your own speed, as there is no real time limit to how long you can be in a level. There are time limits to some of the missions however, so you have to be careful of that.

However, while many adult gamers probably won't agree, the gameplay should have been made a little easier for the kids, more in the speed of the movement, than in the goals and collectibles. It's hard to control the characters because they move so fast. Other than this slight quibble, this is a neat game for the younger players, one which delivers all that it's promised to do. Older players will probably be left wanting more challenge, even with the pro controls, unless they're avid Disney fans.

Imagine you're riding the rails, pulling wicked 720 spins and backside indies. You race down into a bowl and come up to a handplant. You're just tearing it up, and then you realize something. You're Buzz Lightyear on your rocketboard skating through Andy's Room! Then you're Pumbaa and Timon riding a piece of wood through the desert past Pride Rock. Or maybe you're a Young Tarzan on a mask running the gambit at the Tree House him and his friends found. It's the first time a major skateboarding games comes together with the epitome of kids licenses. This is Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure!!

It is hard to quibble with a game that has a certain target audience and meets that goal. However, this is a title that could have had much broader appeal. When you take the skate engine from Tony Hawk, the potential is there for a huge title. However, this game was geared more for younger players. When it comes to a great program for younger gamers, Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a bonafide success. Older, more experienced players may get a chuckle or two from the animation, but will not find it much of a challenge.

As a longtime fan of skateboarding, I have played most of the skateboarding games released over the years and written a great deal about them. But one needn’t be a virtual-skateboarding addict to realize the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has forever changed the way gamers and game companies view skateboarding games. Indeed, most current action-sports titles borrow from the Tony Hawk formula and usually employ some sort of gimmick to grab attention.

This is perhaps the first and only Disney sports title to impress me in the least. As an avid fan of Tony Hawk, I found the game to be incredibly fun and very easy to get into and enjoy. Though the moves have been slightly simplified for younger players, the game is one that can easily be enjoyed by people of all ages! My wife, a woman who can't play Tony Hawk worth a darn due to the complexity of the controls, was really having a great time with this game. Trust me, that means a lot! The control is precise, the graphics are incredible, the game mechanics are sound and the musical score is amusing. This is a game that people might simply turn up their noses at, simply because of the Disney name, but don't be fooled, Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is a fun-filled Disney inspired title that is fun for the entire family.

I’ll admit it: Finding Nemo was probably my favorite movie of the summer, and now comes along Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure. Yes, it’s just Tony Hawk with cuddly creatures; but don’t let the Disney theme scare you off. This is actually one of the better games of this ilk I’ve played in quite some time. Using Neversoft’s engine, developer Toys For Bob has constructed a phenomenal kids game. Now, I don’t mean "kids game" in the usual way we reviewers usually misuse the term (i.e. simplistic and boring). This, my friends is the way it should be done.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure turned out be a pretty solid title and we can only hope that if a sequel is made it will address the few problems it suffers from. We can't really recommend this to anyone over 12 years old, unless you happen to be a massive Disney fan. But if you're a parent or have a younger sibling that you don't hate, you'll have fun playing it with them.

"And all this time I thought it was an act! Come on guys, it's the REAL Buzz Lightyear!" "You're mocking me, aren't you?" "Oh no, no...Buzz look at alien!" (Buzz turns around, then realizes there's nothing there.) "Hahaha!" Who could possibly forget classic moments like that? Disney has been making memorable animated motion pictures for more than half a century. Most recently Pixar has continued Disney's tradition of masterpiece filmmaking with the release of Toy Story 1 and 2, A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc., and Finding Nemo.

To fully appreciate Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, you have to view it in the context of its intended demographic: kids. Taking that into consideration, Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is one of the best examples of a game that appeals and caters to a younger age bracket while still maintaining a level of gameplay quality and intellectual decency lacking in so many other "kids games."

When you make something successful, natural instinct tells you to tweak it, modify it, and abuse it until the idea becomes stale and derivative. This is not an uncommon practice in the games industry, and it's one we'd like to see fade away to an extent. But sometimes a fresh take on a old idea can make for a fun, if not familiar experience, as is the case with Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. Is this a shameless milking of an already dried-out license, or is it a game that caters to a specifically different crowd and effectively brings the Tony Hawk experience to a new and more diverse audience? We'll go for the latter.

As an adult gamer, there are a few things I really appreciate about Disney Extreme Skate Adventure. For one, the simplified version of the Tony Hawk engine allows both kids and adults like myself to feel like we’re good at a skating game. I also love that the Create-A-Skater mode lets me create really hideous mutant children. What could be more fun than a kid with an enormously swollen head, a mohawk, and red clown shoes busting 80,000 point combos?

What this all boils down to is a solid and intuitively controlled skating game that is optimized for younger players but also quite fun for fans of the Tony Hawk series. The colorful cast of characters goes a long way to make the game feel like a one-of-a-kind experience and the simplified control scheme ensures that frustration will be kept to a minimum. If you can’t wait for Tony Hawk’s Underground and want to take a spin around a few new levels, then Skate Adventure is certainly worth looking into, but if you’ve got a younger sibling who enjoys these sorts of games but just can’t quite get the hang of it, then Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a no-brainer, in more ways than one.

In a sense, strategy is dead for the console world. Many companies have attempted to create a following across different platforms in hopes that there's someone out there that owns a console and likes to put their brain to work from time to time. But due to the PC's broader range of releases in the genre, which can be both played online and are easier to control using the mouse pad, consoles have ultimately failed as a contender in this share of the market.

All in all, Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is a good game for younger players or Disney fans who also enjoy skateboarding games. Fans of the Tony Hawk series may wish to rent this one as well, if only to have some new levels to play around in while waiting for the release of the next game in the Tony Hawk series. Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure won't hold the Tony Hawk pro's attention for long, but it's still a fun, well-designed skating game.

When you combine the Disney license with sports, a lot of pretty terrible games come to mind. Plenty of weak Disney Sports games have been released that run the gamut from football and basketball to skateboarding. In what appears to be a textbook example of "that was then, this is now," Activision has released its own Disney skateboarding game, named Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. By taking the engine that powered Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 and combining it with kid-friendly characters from recent Disney films, developer Toys for Bob has created a game that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
71
PlayStation 2PSX Extreme
Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is a solid game for younger children, but one that won't really appeal to anyone else. If there were a few more levels and a create-a-park it would skew slightly older, but alas it has neither. Anyone looking to unlock cool movies will be sorely disappointed as each movie clips is ruined with one of the game's songs playing beneath it, rendering them completely unwatchable. It's a great gift for a younger sibling, but if you're old enough to have enough money to purchase your own games, it's not for you.

PlayStation 2Digital Entertainment News (den)
All told, I don't really think this is a game for kids. The licenses are mocked by being "dumbed down" so much that a six year-old would think they're stupid, the gameplay is sterilized of depth without actually removing all difficulty, and the entire thing can be summed up as one giant attempt to exploit anyone that buys into the title for money. No, this isn't a game for kids. This is a game for money-grubbing business executives looking for another audience to take advantage of. I have nothing but pity if that audience is you.

Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is a novel experience that quickly loses its luster. At its core, it’s running Neversoft’s Tony Hawk 4 engine, so there is some goodness to be had. The easy tricks provide immediate gratification with a shallow learning curve, but there’s little depth. As such, this game is a good rental, but make sure you try it before you cough up the bucks to buy it.
