Dope Wars 2.0 casts you as a debt ridden drug dealer - $2000 in your pocket, but $5500 in debt to a Loan Shark. The only way to get out of this debt trap is to make money by buying the available drugs and then moving to a new location and hoping the price moves up, or is driven up by market demands. Along the way, you'll encounter various hazards in your filthy trade such as cops, muggers, loan sharks needing repaying, etc.

Inspiration

Dope Wars takes its inspiration from Taipan, where you play a trader in the ancient China Seas, trading resources from the mundane (silk) to illegal (opium), while surviving pirates, thieves, and the racketeers that demand protection money.

Another inspiration would probably be the 1984 interactive fiction game called Drug Wars. So similar in fact, you might as well call it (roughly) a total rip-off in the concept (there's got to be a copyright violation here somewhere, maybe).
