All Game Guide
The 7th Guest was definitely before its time and it shows. It's a game that will go down in computer game history (it already has) as being one of the most innovative and groundbreaking games of all time. The story, acting and script are well done, the puzzles are fabulous and the atmosphere is dark and immersive. This is a classic and any computer owner who enjoys mysteries would be making a terrible mistake not to own a copy of it.
However, its graphics were top notch, music by "The Fat Man" was some of his best, and puzzles were unique, to say the least; one different puzzle for every room of the mansion. The ending was confusing, though acceptable. The game was even upgraded to a version more compatible with modern Windows 95/98 machines; thanks!
Vaikka seikkailupelifanaatikot voivatkin pettyä pelin tyylistä, minusta The 7th Guestin idea on virkistävän omaperäinen.

Anyone who entered into a software store around 1993 has probably heard of, or vaguely remembers, The 7th Guest. Its hype and sales roughly equal those of Myst, and probably would have remained just as legendary, if it hadn't turned into something of a one-hit-wonder. Otherwise, 7th (I refuse to call it by its cutesy-ass marketing name T7G - "heeeey guys, lets go play some teee-seven-geee!") and Myst stand together as the leaders of 1990s Nu-adventure - each of the two setting up a unique gameplay mechanic to replace aging text-based systems and take advantage of new graphical capabilities.

The 7th Guest is a game that should be almost exclusively played for its puzzles. The game has very noticeable problems with its storyline and its atmosphere. However, if you like solving puzzles, it can still be a great deal of fun to play. It is a distinct experience that remains surprisingly playable to this day. The 7th Guest is significant for its structure and intense focus on puzzles. It will not be the best game in your collection and it certainly does not have the plot depth you will enjoy in many other adventure games. However, if you missed this game when it was originally released and if you like adventure games that feature lots of puzzles, The 7th Guest is definitely worth a look.
Just Adventure
Play this game if you're in the mood for good puzzles and good cheesy fun. This genre-defining game is well worth a look if you missed it the first time around.

Adventure Gamers
Technology comes and goes; graphics once dazzling will fade, and then all a game has to rest on is its story and the intrigue of its challenges. Take a look around our forum sometime and see how many people list games like Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father or the older Tex Murphy games amoung their favourites, and you will realize that people love those games despite their now inferior graphics, because they have great stories and challenging puzzles. That is why The 7th Guest was almost a great game.
Adventure Classic Gaming
The 7th Guest has written itself into the history book as the “killer app” that hails the introduction of CD-ROM technology. It is a graphical adventure extravaganza but fails to deliver a succinct story and original puzzle play. Who wants to be The 7th Guest?
