Alone in the Dark 2 is not as focused and fear inducing as 1, and neither game is as balanced as 3. But despite its imperfection and high level of difficulty, AITD2 has too much going on, too much personality, too much fun—to be considered anything less than brilliant. Now take up your mother's good frying pan, and go work on that swing.

Tunnelman luonnissa Alone 2 on aivan omaa luokkaansa ainakin kauhupelien saralla.

It growns on you...!

Fantastic graphics and gameplay sure to please all but the most jaded gamer. Alone 2 lacks the same eerie atmosphere and devious puzzles that made the original game such a hit in the first place. A great game, superior to the already excellent original in all but atmosphere.

Trotzdem übertrumpft Alone in the Dark 2 seinen Vorgänger in technischen und spielerischen Belangen und gehört in jede gute Spielesammlung.

But despite this, Alone 2 gives you a rivetting adventure, more combat than is healthy and a dose of peculiar puzzles that would put Escher to shame. On disc you get the benefit of some excellent speech, and a selection of moody music and sound effects, all of which elevate the CD experience a couple of notches above its disk-based predecessor.

High Score

In summary, Alone in the Dark 2 is a great mystery game. Despite its flaws, it has many redeeming qualities. Its excellent story will help you forget everything else you may not like. The story is so good that you will yearn for more of it. Replayability is not very good. At least I don’t think so. Some of you may disagree with me, however. In any case, this game is quite enjoyable. I'd love to rate it higher. But in my opinion, this game just can't budge past a 3. You may disagree with that, so download it as fast as you can and enjoy this rare adventure jewel.

Adventure Classic Gaming
With the success of Alone in the Dark last year, Infogrames attempts to duplicate both the dramatic storytelling and the suspenseful gameplay in this sequel. The original Alone in the Dark is a horror action adventure that is inspired by the work of H P Lovecraft. While Alone in the Dark 2 continues with the supernatural adventures of private investigator Edward Carnby, the sequel unfortunately takes on an unwanted direction by placing too much emphasis on combat arcade sequences over puzzle play. Not only this seriously detracts from the adventure gaming experience, such a change creates much frustration in gamers who yearn for the intelligent gameplay found in its predecessor.

Alone in the Dark 2: Jack's Back, centres round you in the role of a detective, Edward Carnby, wandering around a dark mansion all on your lonesome. Your objectives are two-fold; the rescue of a small girl and the apprehension of her kidnapper, the enigmatic Jack. Things soon get more complicated though, in what is a well worked plot mixing the fantasy and myth of pirates with a bootlegging 1920's America to create a sort of Gothic noir. Unfortunately, this original slant on the RPG is about as good as things get in Alone in the Dark. The graphics are nothing to write home about, and while you can appreciate the effort that's gone into giving everything that period look, the lack of refinement leaves it looking a bit flat. Likewise the animation, which sees Eddie moving about in staccato fashion, occasionally stopping to pick up a clue or fire his tommy gun with all the charisma of a cardboard cut-out.
