Archon Ultra

To say that the original Archon is a monumental game is no overstatement. But with its antiquated graphics and game play, most modern gamers find it hard to stand. Archon Ultra provides the same unique game play reproduced in a package that more people may find they prefer. It's surprisingly easy to get started in, easy to tolerate through its learning curve, and immensely satisfying to master. I give it 5 stars.

Modem play; strategically challenging. Very picky about sound cards and mouse drivers. The combination of strategy and arcade sequences give it great replay value.

Bei diesem Port-over wurde nichts verbessert. Gegenüber dem Disketten-Archon fallen lediglich die Festplatten-Platzersparnis und die deutschen Bildschirmtexte auf. Das Programm ist ein Fest für Nostalgiker, die Archon schon auf C64 oder Amiga liebten. Vor allem zu zweit macht die simple Mischung aus Strategie und Action Spaß. Angesichts des ausgereiften Spieldesigns sieht man gönnerhaft über die etwas antiquiert wirkende Grafik mit dem zähen Scrolling hinweg.

Encore une fois, un éditeur bâcle le travail en espérant que la renommée du nom suffira à vendre son produit. Archon Ultra (bien que le terme "Ultra" me semble de trop) souffre de sérieuses lacunes. La réalisation de Archon Ultra est trop moyenne, la jouabilité laisse à désirer, même le mode "deux joueurs" via modem ne suffit pas à racheter ces fautes.

Gamla Archon-fantaster kommer säkert att uppskatta att förändringarna inte är så många, och nytillkomna datorspelare har med Archon Ultra chansen att återupptäcka en av branschens verkliga klassiker.
