The Big Red Adventure

After Universe, Core Design is back in the adventure world with The Big Red Adventure developed by Dynabyte, an Italian developer. The first thing you will notice when installing the game is the huge amount of data it contains. Over 60 megabytes will be installed on your hard disk from the twelve high-density disks included in the game. As it seems to take forever to install, we strongly recommend the use of the smartdrive provided with the DOS to reduce the installation time.

The Big Red Adventure (nicht zu verwechseln mit Little Big Adventure) hat Core Design seine SuperVGA-Neuheit getauft. Wer bei einem "Großen Roten" allerdings an Winnetou und seine Stammesbrüder denkt, irtt gewaltig. Stattdessen wird Mütterchen Rußland mit einem Augenzwinkern auf die Schippe genommen.

Une réalisation et un scénario catastrophiques pour un jeu qui aurait pu être sympathique.

La compañía italiana de desarrolladores Dynabyte, se dio a conocer con la salida al mercado en 1992 de su primera aventura Nippon Safes Inc. El presente título, Big Red Adventure, es una continuación de las aventuras de aquellos tres protagonistas: Doug Nuts, Dino Fagoli y Donna Fatale. La idea de esta compañía fue continuar con estos tres personajes en una nueva aventura gráfica a tomar parte en alguna zona del Sahara.

Det hela blir lätt lite frustrerande när man gör fel och inser att man måste göra om en massa saker för att få det hela rätt. Den krångliga styrningen, med alla sina egenheter, gör knappast det hela bättre. Det vore en sak om man skulle behöva springa fram och tillbaka mellan skärmarna om det gick smidigt, men när man blir tvungen att klicka fram och tillbaka gång på gång på grund av att Doug behagar gå sin egen väg och inte den man valt åt honom, så blir det minst sagt tråkigt och frustrerande att spela.

Allerdings ist das Programm nicht so schlecht, daß es gleich zur roten Gefahr wird. Die Anzahl der Schauplätze und Gegenstände ist ansehnlich. Das Puzzledesign gewinnt keinen Sonderpreis, hält sich jedoch in akzeptablen Regionen. Gegenüber Schauderalternativen wie "Presumed Guilty" zieht sich Big Red Adventure noch halbwegs achtbar aus der Affäre, aber so richtig toll ist das alles nicht.

I found little enjoyment in playing this game. I didn't warm to the characters at all; not to the way in which they were portrayed, nor to the way they were drawn. The racial, cultural and gender stereo-types were merely offensive rather than funny, and the humour consisted of a running 'joke' about the Russians embracing capitalism, and puns of the calibre of 'Leo Tallstory wrote War and Pacemaker'. If I was prepared to be charitable I would say that maybe it lost something in the translation, Dynabyte being an Italian design team, but if I was too charitable you may get the idea that this is a good game. It isn't.
