Simply put, this is an adventure game. You are an agent of Bureau 13, a group of people kept Top Secret at even the highest levels of government. Bureau 13 missions consist of paranormal investigations and control. All of its agents have skills such as casting magic spells, forming magic smoke screens (called a mist form), and non-paranormal skills such as computer hacking.

All in all, Bureau 13 is a very entertaining game. The puzzles are just difficult enough to make you think a little, and most of them have quite logical solutions. It is a game which I thought was really interesting and fun to play, and one that I would recommend to anyone who likes to play adventure games which make you use your brain. Just don't expect too much realism from it.

Tempot är högt och problemen är precis så svåra att man känner sig utmanad och inte frustrerad. Det är svårt att slita sig ifrån, och de senaste dagarna har en stor del av min lediga tid gått åt till det här spelet. Bureau 13 är inget revolutionerande spel, men ett bra alternativ för den äventyrslystne.

Simple interface; a good variety of puzzles; and lots of replay value. Numerous flaws will frustrate you; the voice acting is embarrassingly bad; the game world lacks vitality. If nothing else, Bureau 13 provides a good fix until a better graphic adventure comes along.

Having recently played, and unfavourably reviewed, Gametek's 'interactive movie' Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller for our first issue, I approached their latest offering, Bureau 13, with cautious scepticism, especially as the box showed similar mannequin-like characters to those used in Hell. I was soon to be very pleasantly surprised, however, as this game bears only a superficial resemblance to its predecessor and makes no pretence to being an 'interactive movie'. It is, in fact, quite an acceptable 'old-fashioned' adventure despite it being loosely based on a pen and paper role-playing game.

Bureau 13 ist mit Sicherheit kein Kaufzwang-auslösender Überknaller, bietet aber solide Adventure-Kost mit einigen neuen Ideen. Die Rätsel sind logisch geraten und auch für Einsteiger geeignet, wenngleich die eine oder andere Stelle rauchende Köpfe verursachen könnte. Fans des Genres sowie Dark-Fantasy-Liebhaber sollten auf jeden Fall mal einen Blick riskieren.
