Carmageddon Splat Pack

I don't see how anyone could own and enjoy Carmageddon and not want the add-on. The Splat Pack stayed true to its form and made some minor changes while simply giving gamers more of what they wanted -- namely, more maps, more fun, and more carnage than any one individual should have the right to. I actually enjoyed the Splat Pack more than the original because I thought the maps were so creative and I'd learned enough about the game through endless hours of play to know how I best enjoy it. If you enjoyed Carmageddon, I think you'll really enjoy the Splat Pack. It is, quite simply, when of the best add-ons to any game of any genre I've ever played.

Het Splat Pack is een goede uitbreiding, waarbij vooral de 3Dfx patch de mensen zal aanspreken met een minder krachtige PC (maar met 3D kaart). Splat Pack biedt weinig nieuwe elementen, enkel meer van hetzelfde. Ideaal dus voor wie nog steeds niet genoeg kan krijgen van Carmageddon.

Für Besitzer einer 3Dfx-Karte befindet sich dazu der seit geraumer Zeit auch im Internet erhältliche Grafik-Patch auf dem Silberling, der die stark kritisierte Optik des Metzel-Rennspiels heutigen Standards angleicht. Außerdem schnürte SCI ein Servicepaket, welches sich hauptsächlich aus Internet-Tools zusammensetzt. 18 neue Strecken, 4 zusätzliche Grafiksets, weitere 15 Gegner und ergänzende Netzwerklevels sollen für aufgebohrten Spielspaß sorgen. Das motivierende Spielprinzip blieb indes unangetastet. In einer Art Ranking Mode treten Sie gegen 8 Gegner an. Ihre Rennen können Sie auf 3 Wegen für sich entscheiden: Klassisch, indem Sie als erster die Ziellinie erreichen, auf die brutale Art, indem Sie alle Gegnerautos demolieren, oder elegant, indem Sie möglichst viele Roboterdroiden durch kunstvolle Stunts zertrümmern. 7 neue Audio- Tracks der Marke „Hart aber herzlich“ sorgen für Atmosphäre, die Spielerkisten „Red Eagle“ und „Hawk“ wurden modifiziert.

If you didn't like the original, the Splat Pack won't do anything for you. If, on the other hand, you loved it to pieces, played it from beginning to end, and can't wait for the full-blown sequel, this'll do the business. At the end of the day, it costs about the same as a CD by Cast or The Cranberries, so if you've got a bit of money to burn, for God's sake buy this instead. We don't want to encourage them.

Die Begeisterung hält sich in Grenzen: Den 3Dfx-Patch gibt's ohnehin kostenlos im Internet oder auf der PC Games-CD 11/97, und die neuen Strecken lohnen sich eigentlich nur für echte Carmageddon-Fans. Während die Konkurrenz von Ubi Soft für POD kostenlos neue Kurse und Autos abgibt, müssen Sie hier nochmal extra blechen. Unterhaltsam ist das Splat Pack durchaus, aber eben auch nicht mehr als das eh benötigte Carmageddon.

Mir gefällt das Splat Pack recht gut. ie rund 18 Strecken versprechen kurzweilige Action, machen aber nicht ganz soviel Spaß wie die Originalkurse. Besonders genervt hat mich die Strecke "Icing on the Quake", bei der alle Texturen in schlichtem Grau gehalten sind. Somit erkennt man den nahenden Abgrund oder andere Hindernisse kaum. Fazit: Carmageddon-Fans dürfen getrost zugreifen.
