1086 had one major flaw. (Whether it was intentional or just a balance issue is anyone's guess.) One could literally traipse around England conquering all in your path with a huge, lumbering army without having to worry about securing your castles. Quite simply, if an enemy army came marching into one of your acquired territories, and so long as you had left behind a single knight to guard it from being overrun, the game would take you to its First-Person combat mode. As long as you were good enough to win in this mode, one could repel even the largest of armies from invading your lands.
