Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood

Sierra has once again made a game that is fun to play, easy to navigate through and to die in, packed with extraordinary scenery and a great story line.

Great care was also put into both the historical aspects of the game and its mythological flavour: Prince John’s schemes to obtain the throne are as accurate as Druidic beliefs about hollow trees and magical gemstones, and Marx’s thorough research is evident through the myriad of little details she interspersed in the main plot. For example, at one moment Robin find himself in a prior’s library and the player can read almost every scroll on the bookshelf. Although not vital to complete the game, the information gathered from the parchments – about the Crusades, the Knights Templar and Charlemagne, to name just a few – greatly increase the player’s feeling of immersion.

Die Sierra-Damenriege hat den Bogen raus: Wie bei Roberta "Kings Quest" Williams, können auch die Geschichten von Christy Marx erzählerisch überzeugen. Die gelungene Räubermär aus dem finsteren Sherwood Forest, inklusive Pater Tuck und dem Sheriff von Nottingham, entschädigt für die spielerischen Leichtgewichte der männlichen Programmierkonkurrenz. Endlich können wir uns wieder durch logische und elegant in die Handlung eingebaute Rätsel kämpfen. Das Computerabenteuer von Robin Hood ist eine süffige Mixtur aus mittelalterlichem Kriminalfall, Mantel- und Degen-Film und einer digitalen Geschichtsstunde. Grafik und Sound (kräftige, zuweilen etwas poppige Aquarellfarben und mittelalterliche Lautenklänge) passen sich erfreulich problemlos Ort und Zeit der Handlung an.

Adding to this all is the story, which gives a celtic flavour to the forest and an entertaining version of the overused story.
