Diggers

The graphics have a goofy cartoonish look to them and are very nicely done. Sounds are sparse and rather unimpressive, consisting of indecipherable gibbering, various mining sounds, ect. The music isn’t too bad, but it’s definitely not Mozart material. Overall I was left quite satisfied with the graphics and artwork, but wished there were more sound effects and perhaps in-game music.

The variety of equipment keeps things interesting. Controlling your miners can sometimes seem more trouble than it's worth. A combination of Lemmings and Populous, Diggers doesn't quite offer the appeal of either.

Once you get used to the various controls, slightly clumsy icon system and huge range of obstacles, the action in Diggers is addictive. The strategic elements of controlling five characters at once, coupled with the need to use equipment, collect treasure and deal with rival teams, make this a difficult game to master. However, once you're hooked, the potential for enjoyment is very great indeed.

Den Macken zum Trotz: Tüftel-Fans beschert das Programm nach kargen Monaten dürren Denkspiel-Nachschubs einiges zum Knobeln. Wer bei Lemmings 2 oder The Humans mit Spaß bei der Sache war, wird trotz des Fummel-Frust-Faktors bei Diggers auf seine Kosten kommen.

Det här är ett spel som lånat en hel del från Lemmings, men som ändå helt klart står på egna ben.

Whereas Lemmings has you whizzing about the screen in barely-controlled panic, clicking on icons like a lunatic to try to stop the little buggers doing something you'll regret. Diggers has you clicking on icons like a lunatic to try to get them to take effect, and the only thing you'll regret is buying it in the first place. There's really very little to recommend this game to anyone. Just be grateful they haven't come up with a game called Blockers. Now that would be exciting.
