Flight Unlimited

The folks at Looking Glass have got this one exactly right. If you even think you might be ready to check out the new generation of flight sims, you really owe it to yourself to take a look at Flight Unlimited. But once you look, you'll want to fly, and once you fly, you'll be hooked. Like I said, it's not a game per se, but it is an absolutely first-rate sim -- well conceived, designed, and executed. Score it a 94 -- best of its genre, hands down. If they figure out a way to do the (nearly) impossible and make it fly smoothly at 1024x768, I'd give it a 100.

Microsoft's Flight Simulator remained for many years one of the best flight simulators around, but today with the arrival of Flight Unlimited by Looking Glass Technologies, its days are definitively numbered.

Voilà un jeu aussi beau qu'annoncé, et plus rapide que prévu. Si l'envie vous prend de voler dans un environnement plus ludique que FS5, voilà le produit idéal.

I confess, I've always liked a little action in my flight simulations. Hell, if you can't blow anything up, what's the point of pretending? But I'm starting to change my attitude now that I've found a flight sim that makes just plain flying fun.

Zweifellos bildet Flight Unlimited einen weiteren Meilenstein in der Entwicklung der Flugsimulation. Es fragt sich nur, ob es dem Gros oder potentiellen Spieler reicht, mit einem Sport- oder Segelflugzeug über gut digitalisierte Landschaften hinwegzuschweben und von Zeit zu Zeit ein Kunstflugtraining zu absolvieren.

Für mich ist klar: Die Tage des "Microsoft Flight Simulator" sind gezählt. Flight Unlimited ist schöner, schneller und spaßiger. Auch wenn der eine oder andere seinen Rückflügen unter der Golden Gate Bridge nachweint, lassen sich die Vorzüge der neuen Kunstflugsimulation nicht unter den Tisch kehren.

This piece of software is a serious flight simulator for those of you who want to actually learn something about the art of flying while being able to keep your lunch intact. All in all this is definitely a keeper. Now, if I could just get my hands on a VR headset....

Flight Unlimited är, trots sin aerodynamiska realism, ett spel som man helt enkelt spelar därför att man tycker om att flyga omkring och njuta av fin grafik. Det finns inga fiender att skjuta, men det finns en flyglärare man kan imponera genom att utföra en mängd avancerade manövrer enligt hans instruktioner. Sammantaget är Flight Unlimited väldigt kul och medryckande, trots en del snedsteg i realismen. Ett varningens ord dock: har du något långsammare än en P60 ska du inte försöka spela FU. Med en P60 är det acceptabelt smidigt.
