I'd disagree. While it is often seen as a sort of forefather to Diablo, it doesn't really have RPG elements.

It certainly borrows elements from RPGs (typical RPG classes, fantasy setting, dungeon crawling, potions), but it's at its core not much different from a top-down Golden Axe.

It misses true character progression. You can only pick-up temporary power-ups and health potions as far as I can remember.
