Press Release:

GRIP THE WHEEL, REV THE ENGINE AND TAKE ON THE WORLD'S TOUGHEST COURSES IN WORLD CIRCUIT RACING'S GRAND PRIX II’ FROM MICROPROSE

Experience the Thrill of Formula One Competition in Hot New Racing Simulation Game

Alameda, CA, July 23, 1996- Spectrum HoloByte, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBYT) announced today the launch of the World Circuit Racing brand's Grand Prix II PC CD-ROM, shipping worldwide under the MicroProse brand. This launch represents the single largest initial release for the Company this year, totaling over 350,000 units.

Racing enthusiasts can now join a real FIA Formula One team and race some of the most challenging courses on the planet. Licensed by FIA Formula One, Grand Prix II will put players in the driver's seat as they practice, challenge for the pole and go head-to-head with actual Formula One drivers on tracks in Monaco, Brazil, France and beyond.

Grand Prix II provides the ultimate in realism, with every aspect of the Formula One circuit re-created with incredible accuracy and detail. In addition to the actual courses that make up the Grand Prix’ circuit, the game includes full pitching and rolling, spectacular crashes, engine blowups and richly detailed 3-D effects. As drivers race through tight curves and fly down straightaways, they will even see the same trackside sponsors they would encounter at the track itself.

"An extraordinary amount of effort has been taken to make this game as realistic as possible," said Derek McLeish, Senior VP of Marketing, Spectrum HoloByte, Inc. "The result is a pulse-pounding experience each time around the track, whether it's a practice run or a race against the best drivers on the circuit."

Grand Prix II offers players a number of options that add to its realism. Enhanced camera views allow players to watch the race from several different angles, just like those seen on television. Similarly, a replay feature allows competitors to relive their finest moments from any of the available views. Five levels of opponent ability and multiple driving aids allow drivers to adjust the game to their own skill level and increase the difficulty as they become more experienced racers. Players also have the option of racing a full season or individual races.

Category: Racing Simulation Format: PC CD-ROM Minimum Requirements: 486/100, Pentium recommended, double-speed CD-ROM, 8MB RAM with DOS 5.0 or later, 15MB of hard drive space, mouse, keyboard or joystick, VGA and 256-color SVGA Support: Sound Blaster and compatible, ProAudio Spectrum
